Re: Noob questions while waiting for Dom3
Note also that "weak" mages can sometimes still cast really cool spells, but those spells are usually found at very high research levels. For instance, 2 path levels of Death (commonly abbreviated D2) don't let you do very much normally, but there's a nifty little spell called Disintegrate at Alteration-8 which costs only 10 fatigue and forces any other unit to save-or-die. Another is Frozen Heart, which any W1 (Water-1) mage can cast and which inflicts 9 points or so of damage on any unit in range, ignoring Protection. I think this one also comes somewhere in the Alteration tree.
To reiterate: powerful spells usually require lots of path levels on the caster and lots of research, but sometimes they only require one of the two. -Max |
Re: Noob questions while waiting for Dom3
Actually, I have a bit of a noob question. Astral healing, is it a one shot spell as it looks like, or is it a persistent spell that heals all your units every turn? I've never actually used it because if it really is the former that doesn't seem very useful to me.

Re: Noob questions while waiting for Dom3
well I always assumed the former, but if it was a persistant spell than it could actually made to be useful, but maybe at an increased cost.

Re: Noob questions while waiting for Dom3
I'm fairly sure it's the former.

Re: Noob questions while waiting for Dom3
Astral Healing is only useful in roughly the same way that Sermon of Courage is: you only make morale checks when you take more than half as many "wounds" in a unit as there are units, and a "wound" only counts if it drops a given unit below 80% health. Thus, Astral Healing can boost units taking arrow fire back up above 80% and prevent them routing, as well as helping them survive a bit more.
Very situational, but I guess it could help under heavy arrow fire or BEs like Fire Storm. I've never used it. -Max |

Hmm, that's a bit frustrating. Thanks for all the quick responses though :)

Re: Noob questions while waiting for Dom3
You can use it to heal a diseased army at the beginning of a battle. It doesn't remove their afflictions of course, but it will bring them back up in HP. You can also script it if you know you are casting a BE or BF spell that will hurt (but probably not kill) your own units.

Re: Noob questions while waiting for Dom3
Isnt it also handy to bolster a starving army at the beginning of combat?
