I think your underestimating the good a powerful rainbow mage can do. Shovah32 suggested asleeping F2W3E4D3B6 Fountain of Blood with Dom8, order3, sloth2, cold2, growth3, misfortune2, magic1. I've been using it in SP and it gives you a lot of flexibility. Its always possible to play around with it to get rid of the sloth, or give yourself more luck. I actually take drain 2 to help my troops, and instead of water I took S4 for the rings. Sure it's immobile, but this way you can get great diversity and still have a high dominion.
