Baalz:

I am pretty sure that if immortal unit dies and is surrounded only by enemy provinces, but with friendly dominion, he will not really die, but be reborn. I have witnessed that recently. So only routing from assassination makes you dead.

Hmm, didn't know about the retreating immortal units.
Good to know, makes it much easier to kill an immortal army, permanently.

EDIT: Or maybe not, damn you both, now I'll have to test it...

I'm guessing Zeldor is probably right, since I don't remember where I got that idea. ;)

I have definitely killed immortal Pretenders in the past by making them retreat. The battle report says the Pretender hasn't died, but the nation whos immortal Pretender has died gets a message saying XXX has died, and also the 'Call God' command is available next turn.

Attached is a test game showing the above.

Ah, I just reread what Zeldor posted. As far as I know dying it only matters what the dominion you're fighting in is. Retreating, dominion (and thus immortality) is irrelevant if you've got no friendly province to retreat to. In dominion immortals (I think) only retreat if their side loses 80% hitpoints or the turn timer expires.

Huh, I didn't write it correctly, it was enemy immortal pretender routing with no friendly provs around and did not get permament death. I will maybe look later for a file.

Calahan suggests that an immortal can permanently die with no retreat.
I think that is true.

However, someone said an immortal retreating from an assassination attempt will also die. Is this confirmed?
