Good info!
As with any first-generation system there are, of course, bugs.
I wasn't aware it was a retractable system no wonder it's so big and complex...just fix mount the damn thing under the belly...if you have to make a wheels-up crash landing I'd think damaging the belly gun would be the least of your worries...but there we go trying to apply logic to the military.

I guess the AH-1Z has been around for at least three years according to this article concerning the new TSS contract. The article indicates 16 units were delivered in 2007. Maybe time to look at the COBRA based on these last few posts, I only "report" on the info the technical stuff I trust to you guys to evaluate.

As with the majority of equipment upgrade/replacement projects the USMC does it's a slow-rate-of-progress thing.
