Vger, there is probably an error in the settings, quadrant or system.txt files if you get the the error during the map generation (e.g. max. system number 255 or higher will give you an error). There should be no problem with the assimilation technology, because I use it now for months without any problem.

Yeah, I forgot you can only have 254 planets and put the max number at 500 ... Doh!

BTW, IS there a listing somewhere of the range of values for different things? For example, the max number of population thresholds for production and shipyard?

And while I'm at it, why is it that new racial traits mean that you have to redo empire files? I'd understand making new files for empires that used the tech, but it's weird having to do ones for everybody else, too.

I'd assume that it is because the fields in the .EMP have changed their order.

IE when SE4 loads the file, it looks for the names, the characteristics, then a yes/no for each racial trait...

But when you add a racial trait, SE4 either runs into the end-of-file, cuts into some other entries, and generally chokes.
