No real idea but how about its role is mainly CS as in fire support not anti armour.
As there are 3 platoons per co so thats one for each.

The MGS is used in a CS role much like the M551 Sheridan was used in the 82nd Abn. The low recoil 105mm has suspect anti-armor defeating performance and the loadout is primarily HEAT or Canister.

The major problem with the platform is the inability to fire over the side of the vehicle. They have a tendency to rollover when you traverse past the first wheel and fire the main gun. oops.

Interesting concept; poorly designed.

Hmm - they are credited with varying quantities of sabot in the OOBs ATM. So probably should swap sabot for HEAT then?.

Some problems still exist with the STRYKER MGS and though in the field as late as this past fall it still was under modifications to fix numerous issues to include firing stablization while on the move at the Aberdeen proving grounds in MD.
To the ammo issue I hope this will help; Note para 5:

Some good general info; Note para 2:

Due to the reliability issues a good article on them and the "argument" against the MGS based on existing platforms. There is enough other info out there but, I was somewhat surprised how willing we are to use such high tech ammo for the alternative (Yeah that's a tease.) given to the MGS.

To my knowledge they can fire Sabot, but the major HEAT loadout would most likely apply to their current deployment - few targets for APFSDSDU out there in the mudhuttistan.

In my opinion, by only having three vehicles in the platoon, you just have the platoon and you can't split into two sections. Maybe since its only for CS they don't want to thin it out by having sections of two, as you would with an MBT. Just a thought.

Re: US Stryker Brigade

The original platoon structure for the MGS was 4 vehicles. A chart showing this is in post #2 of this thread. Why they went with a 3 vehicle platoon is beyond my comprehention. It may be because of the many short commings of the system. IMHO if these issues can be resolved and as the vehicles become more available they may go back to the 4 vehicle platoon.
