I would suggest you play Arcoscephale.

The nation has healers.
Astral magic, so you can horror mark the opponents.
No death, so no undead afflictions.
And some big stompy elephants for the lulz.

You can go through the list of priests and give them a healing ability (say 10% for every priest level) if you want, but it will be fairly annoying job.

Big effect on gameplay.

It's not that easy to assassinate a god with horror marks. Returning/appropriate gear can make a pretender nearly immune to the majority of horrors, and even some doom horrors aren't nearly autodeath.

There is a mod that adds a spell that removes horror marking. Do a search on this forum.

If you plan on using a combat pretender past about turn 18, you should be giving that pretender a sweet gear load so he can just solo doom horrors. I don't think there's a single one that a well-equipped SC pretender can't take.

At which point, how horror marked your pretender is doesn't really matter.

Eventually your pretender is going to fail a MR check against a horror and get soul slayed. And Kurgi makes units insane.

Perhaps it's on the mods forum? You could try asking there:
