I remember facing vastness as marignon in a late age game, and it was painful. High MR thugs are the best option IMHO.

Still, this requires that one has a pretty impressive magical engine going, and that one has been researching the right paths. Charm is Thaum 7, so its very situational. On the other hand, within the situation is is quite solid, particularly as anyone with access to Charm has access to Gift of Reason.

As Knai himself stated later, that's in no way an answer to an early Vastness. It's, however, a excellent answer to a *late* Vastness. But in the scenary presented by the OP, it's not useful. There's no way any nation could have Thau 7 researched in the first year of game, which is Shaetner's problem.

Yeah. I don't remember exactly where Enslave Mind is, but I was thinking it was earlier.
