Re: What Happened?

Hi Andy, just a followup. The problem is not the monitor. It's the 8.1 operating system. Out of curiosity I tried a couple of compatibility OSs. The one that seemed to work the best is XPsp2. Everything works in full screen except 1600. For some reason, this brings an error and won't load at all. What's weird though, the legacy resolutions are stretched to cover the full screen. The hexes are flattened a bit but don't bother me playing that way. They're not stretched that much. Anyway, I thought you might be interested in this info and some others with old eyes and win8 might like to try it.

I just tried full-screen mode on my windows 8.1 box (I have given up on that mode since it scrambles the palette, the driver dont like it ).

In full-screen mode, scrolling slows to a crawl and stutters.

But if I switch to Windowed mode, scrolling is back to rocket speed, despite now working in full 32-bit colour mode. Plus, I can now see my taskbar and the clock, email notifications etc.

Its faster to convert 256 colour pixels on the fly to 32,000 colour or whatever it is at high-res than try to run in just 256. It used to be t'other way round, back in 2000:)!

So if scrolling has become slow - switch to windowed mode at desktop resolution.

Andy

Just when I was about to open a topic about it!

Thanks a lot, good sir!

Re: What Happened?

Well, I've just tried the game on Win 8 64 bits for the first time on a HP 1000 Notebook with desktop resolution at 1366x768 32 bit 60Hz, with the following results:

With no compatibility selected, windowed mode works perfect at desktop resolution just the task bar taking some space at the bottom but not a game breaker, full screen works and looks well at desktop resolution but with delayed movement and screen scrolling. If I try full screen at lower resolutions it starts working at 1024x768.

If I switch hardware to desktop resolution 1280x768 then the game full screen works at desktop resolution.

Compatibility changes to XP or switching between DirectX or GDI doesn't seem to have any effect. I hope this helps somehow.

My favorite mode is full screen so please bear with me if I insist on playing this way, it appears that the delay I mentioned above is the only issue present at the moment though my tests were limited to moving some units on the Tutorial Scenario.

I've tried different values for Graphics Delay and Unit Move Delay and the movement is faster but the issue persists: the unit takes about 3/4 of its movement then it stops for a moment and then resumes, same with the scrolling, I assume it has something to do with graphics? Any idea on how to solve it?

EDIT: Apparently I have the latest drivers but I´ll double check.

Thanks in advance.
