Actually, just the maps would be awesome. Reason for that is in the 1930s, they actually had mock battles on the actual Civil War battlefields for the anniversaries involving the US Army and USMC and actual tanks and airplanes. :D

On the twenty-first of July, 1936, a crowd estimated at 10,000 persons gathered around the edges of what was the last phase of the first Battle of Manassas. It was the seventy-fifth anniversary of this historic battle which took place during the Civil War between the Federal and Confederate Forces on July 21, 1861. The battle was reenacted by units of the First Marine Brigade, Fleet Marine Force, in conjunction with the 16th Brigade, U. S. Army, and certain R.O.T.C. units.

Like this idea, although my favoured era would be Crimea 1854-56 with Britain, France, Turkey and Sardinia Fighting Russia.

I gave up on Harry Turtledove, not so much for his South Africans ( a country I spent 15 years in) and their AK47's (and the Gods know that was pretty bloody stupid, sigh) as for his not seeing that not only could USS Monitor's guns not do much to a HMS Warriors armour, but that a Warrior type ship could sink a monitor just with her wake and wash, never mind her guns.

Ummm...wrong Harry, IronDuke. You're thinking of Harry Harrison's Stars and Stripes trilogy. :p
