Firefight is a nice little platoon-sized WW2 skirmish level game.

Maaan... you know Firefight too!
This was the game I played before I know Steel Panthers by you guys!

Back then my computer was too slow for Close Combat, so I gave Firefight a go. Oh lord I can't forget the nostalgic feeling... the cows mowing, the birds chirping on the battlefield, little tiny soldiers getting squashed into tomatoes, blue bars going black for lack of radio range, and most of all the green meadows & hedgerows of the map, I feel I can smell it alright.

But great as it is, the game is just not enough for me, the scope, unit diversity, maps, etc is just limited.

So imagine my COMPLETE ECSTASY when I found WinSPWW2!! I remember laughing out loud (with satisfaction mind you, not humor!) looking at the mindboggling scope of this game, the unit encyclopedia, the huge maps, man!!! I remember showing it to a friend sitting beside me, who can only sneer with confusion, "What's so great about that 2D hexagon game!" You wouldn't believe that I ACTUALLY PRINTED the game manual and read it in school, despite it was an end-term exam period.

(If I remember correctly, I found about WinSPWW2 by stumbling upon DRG's Linetap website, not this forum).

Ah the old days.... :o

My brother found this:

I ended up using it in that weird New York-New Jersey War that I was talking about earlier. Could come in handy for theatre-level matchups.

Looks interesting, but Google's website safety checker reports that site as unsafe right now?

Red Dragon almost daily basis. This game is far from realistic, but provides somewhat climatic spectrum of modern combat. And most importantly, modern tactics actually work.
I got my heart softened, I even ignore game's must-have balance.

It ends when I deploy Otomatics in opening stages :3

Besides that:
- Darkers Hour, particularly with Kaiserreich mod. It is heavily upgraded Hearts of Iron 2
- War Thunder once in a while (but I warn you, this game causes agression. A lot of it.)
- Recently going with Disonored Series (offtopic though given these forums :P)
- And to continue offtopic, I recommend the game "Life is Strange" even though it looks like teen drama
- Going back to wars, I do quite an amount of Napoleon Total War, Empire Total War, eventually Rome 2 once in a while. I also got Fall of the Samurai
- Combat Missions series, new ones
- I touched Close Combat series, but never liked those
- ...and I like to race a bit in DiRT 3 ;)

Good to see I'm not the only one shouting at my computer playing this :P

Its good for you that you only shout :D
I shout particularly at T-34 rule. Remember everybody, T-34 is undestructible tank that takes no critical hits unless you drive it.

What tiers you got?

There a some good Games i loved and
remember sometimes:

Day of the Tentacle
Monkey Island
Lands of Lore
Panzer General
Gangsters Organized Crime
The Elder Scrolls Morrowind
East Front
Norm Koger's Operational Art of War
Baldurs Gate 2 Throne of Bhaal
Gothic 1 and 2
America's Army

Still playing sometimes:

Mount and Blade Warband
Cities Skylines
Stellaris
Grigsby's War in the East

but for instance i'm not really pissed off if i loose a bataillion - playing war in the east.
Do not really care about loosing a planet - playing Stellaris.

Don't know how to explain in a foreign language. I like these games but they don't last longer than a year on my laptop. Except SPWW2 and SPMBT, i am getting old with these.

The last one, MBT i am only interested in Vietnam Aera. Playing USMC. (Hooah)

And SPWW2 is a special one. Starting a campaign in 39 i gave the leader of my core units names. From old friends of mine no matter if they have already died. People i like and whom i trust. They are the backbone of my army. (To keep it that way, they often get better weapons, lmg's instead of smg for instance)

Ja and with these units i play a long time. The longest campaign . Sometimes my wife must must ähmm don't know the english word. She reminds me that i should come in bed.

Re: Other games you've played that you like

My favourite strategy games used to be Close Combat and TOAW, but WinSPWW2 and MBT have long since pushed them out of the spotlight :)

I'll also mention the Myth series here (real time tactics genre). You can't build any units and are always badly outnumbered, so tactics are really important. I was pleasantly surprised by this, especially considering the fantasy setting. Pretty good storytelling as well.

Also, OpenXcom is awesome.
