Though both games were working fine on my desktop prior to the patches, they were relatively new installs following an HD crash a couple of months before. Perhaps adjustments to the .ini file or a re-install of both games is in order. I will do that and report back. Thanks for the quick responses and hopefully I haven't created undo alarm. |
Re: Latest patches killed both games for me
Just try to save a game as you are, and see if ESCAPE lets you back to the save screen, or RETURN saves it in the slot its currently selected.
the big hint will be the red text entry box for the file name - see the picture that Don put up, its underneath the INPUT A NAME FOR YOUR SCENARIO message and it only appears if you click on a save game slot with your mouse - or in the case of GOTO, which has done the "mouse click" part for you already. |
Re: Latest patches killed both games for me
The GOTO option for saving works for me in both games.

Usually when Andy and I finish one of these things the closest analogy would be two marathon runners collapsing just past the finish line. This year we spent twice the amount of time checking and rechecking the work. Hearing " patches killed both games" is no cause for joyous celebration...... |

By the way, did we lose the Sturmtiger pic with this release or has it never been there? I was working on a scenario using it before the patch and could have swore that the unit had a picture. Now it does not. |

congratulations you found the only one in that series that was missed being moved from my working game to the patch folder.
$hit happens...... Extract the attachment to your ( and anyone else interested )Game Data/Pictures folder. It's now been added to next years patch folder as well |

After 40 years of researching German armor in WWII, I finally found a credible source describing a battle involving Sturmtigers, namely Guderian (son of the General), "From Normandy to the Ruhr: With the 116th Panzer Division in World War II" (Sept. 2001), so I thought I'd take a shot at a SPWW2 scenario covering it. |
Re: Latest patches killed both games for me
I changed the .ini settings to match those of my old system and re-installed the patches and now the games are working.
Not sure what caused the problems but I suspect that after doing a fresh install of the games a couple of months ago, I never adjusted the .ini settings which only became an issue after the latest patches. |
Re: Latest patches killed both games for me
If you have an anti-virus of the sort that "sandboxes" new (including changed) executables (like my Avast AV does) then the exe can run for a few minutes and then get terminated. That got so irritating in the development environment that I dug through the options and found out how to "white list" folders so id did not do the sand-boxing (tries run it once for a minute or so, then just terminates it and restarts the thing. That gets old very quickly when you are doing the "change a line of code, rebuild and try to get back to the breakpoint you were debugging at" cycle!).
It may be that you have an AV that is doing some sort of "whoa - the WW2 EXE has changed!" thing and not reporting it well, or has decided its suspicious, or has pop-ups turned off etc. If so it may be worthwhile figuring out how to "white list" the shrapnel games folder hierarchy in your anti-virus software. |
Re: Latest patches killed both games for me
Which INI did you change? There are 6 of them.
I can ASSUME but it's better to know.
