Re: Meson vs. Anti-Proton

Actually Mesons were trown away in SEIV as they both cost more to research, weaker and have shorter range than APB. Same to torpedoes - only the latest quantum torpedoes can do a lot of damage, others are weak. It is better to research lvl.12 APB than research lvl.5 mesons or lvl.10 torpedoes. Back in SE3, my Meson-Torpedoes destroyers were unstoppable.
Organic brings that back . . . . http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Re: Meson vs. Anti-Proton

Actually, that's not quite correct for meson. APB to 12 costs 1,317,500 (medium tech cost, low start). Meson to 6 costs 510,000, torps to 10 1,015,000. It costs more per level, but the lesser number of levels makes the total cost lower.

Going to low or (ow) high tech cost doesn't change that.
Low: 260,000 meson, 440,000 APB, 325,000 torps
High: 960,000 meson, 3,300,000 APB, 1,975,000 torps

So at high tech cose, you can get meson bLasters AND torps to max for less than APB to max. Hmm. Maybe the APB is a bit better balanced that I thought.
