Re: Gold Patch installing problem

Richard,

I went there. Didnt see it. The only thing I saw for SE4 download, was the old 1.49 Version.

Ive got that one.

I also have the problem with installing the patch.
I am not sure but it may have something to do with having mult installs of the game in the same dir. it maybe reading the wrong one, even though you point it toward the correct one.

It's there, maybe you need to reload the page from Cache.

Re: Gold Patch installing problem

Is there any way to get the patch in vanilla zip format and not as an executable file (.exe).

Some firewalls prevent downloading of .exe files, such as mine here at work.

Thanks

I hope Malfador updates their web page- that's where I went first, and there wasn't any patch mentioned for gold.

Re: Gold Patch installing problem

I installed the patch and now when I try to play a current game I am told, "Invalid data files - the files currently being used don't match the files used when the game was started. Please check with your host to get the correct data files". Since I *am* the host I re-downloaded the files via the PBW game admin screen but I am still getting the error. Do I have to make yet another install of 1.6 for the sake of my current games?

Re: Gold Patch installing problem

The data files it is talking about are not the files you would download from PBW. It is talking about the datafiles that are in the Data folder of SE4 installation. If you created the game using any sort of mod, you would want to make sure you are using the same mod as you try to play the turn.

You can try reinstalling the game and patching the fresh installation. Some people have also reported problems with zip files from PBW that were fixed by installing the latest Version of Winzip.

Hmm. What happens if Malfador changed some of the datafiles between 1.60 and 1.67 (I know they changed the systemtypes to fix the problem with the new nebulaes). Would this cause the datafile check to erroneously tell us we are using different data files when trying to play old 1.60 games?? If so then we might have a problem...

Re: Gold Patch installing problem

No luck installing gold patch 1 here.

I renamed my original SE4 and the install program found the directory with Gold Version but told me I didn't have 1.60. But I do.

I have 1.60 installed plus a modpack directory with TDM and mounts mod. I may have modified the settings.txt file in data.

Re: Gold Patch installing problem

I would guess that most of the problems are related to changed data files. Make a backup of your modified files and then do a clean reinstall. Patch it. Copy the patched game to a secure location. Copy your modified files into the new patched game folder. It should work now.

Re: Gold Patch installing problem

I too had to uninstall/reinstall/patch. I don't have a single mod installed nor have i opened any files and edited them. Maybe they are doing doing a diff on the program settings (like CD music on/off) or something. of course, i just pulled that out of my ***...
