Re: New PBW game starting: "If you build it, they will come..."
"no one builds RWs / SWs in multiplayer."
I have 13 RWs under construction in a PBW game right now, and the only reason that i am not going to finish them is because there is a 400 ship limit and i need to fight a war. if there was no ship limit, i would have half of them done in the next 20 turns. the game is on turn 97 right now, and it was not a high tech start. at least two other players are building their own.. or were. |

Actually MEE isn't really a good indicator of whether you are trying to wipe out another player. And wouldn't someone that is strong enough to build a ringworld probably trigger it? Although that is an intersting idea for a scenario. I wonder if you could get an AI race to lay dormant like that unless a player got strong and then swoop in an knock them down a peg. ...

It depends on your settings.txt, but the default settings seem ok to me for this. They don't prove you're trying to wipe out another player, but they do show that you're probably expanding or developing a lot faster than all the other players - an MEE is probably at least hogging lots of planets and building up a fleet. If they aren't evil, they shouldn't need whatever is causing them to have such a high score. I think a ringworld would only count as one colony for score purposes (not sure). The ability to build one would require points, but only one empire will be MEE at once - as long as you're not outstripping your opponents, you shouldn't get to be MEE. I started an Anti-Evil Inquisition AI race / mod-ette - it's not a whole lot of work to do. If I finish it and it seems to sort of work, I'll post it. It's not necessarily the thing for this game of yours, though, as you say. Unclearable stormy sunless home systems are probably best for that, I'd think. PvK |

PvK

You're right, being the MEE don't mean that yo'ure trying to wipe out another player, it just shows other players that you're expanding A LOT faster then they are. For instance: In the single player game I'm playing against 13 computers, and they all think I'm the MEE, but it's not because I started attacking them or nothing like that. I always try to make peace with all the computer empires to let myself build up a good defensive system. But this game I'm playing the second I found the first computer (in a large quad) they thought I was MEE. But it's thanks to me expanding so fast. I took 1/3 of the galaxy before I found them or they found me. Now I've blocked off half of the galaxy. So it's just according to how fast you expand in the beginning that decides if you're a MEE. |
