Re: Newbie needs help

RW and SW are massive undertakings. Before you begin to build one be sure that you have sufficant storage of Minerals, Organics, and Radioactives.

Before I build one, I colonize at least 10 planets with 24 or greater facility capacity and then build nothing but storage facilities for each of the three minerals.

The normal time to build a RW is about 100 turns unless you use mulitiple construction ships. Those ships will cost a lot to maintain, so be sure that they have quatum reactors and your have sufficant stored resorces to sustain them.

SW take about 200 turns normally to create.

Once they are done, you will have a jewel for your imperial crown like the which the galaxy has never seen. Best of luck.

Just in case somebody is interested, a while ago I posted a map containing a sphere world and six
ringworlds. I hid these worlds (cloaked them) so that they were not usable until you had the necessary tech to find them. My objective was to keep them from play until later in the game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

P.s. I hid a few other goodies around the map. See what you can find! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Uhh.. WHAT? Don't bother with quantum reactors, either on the construction ships or the starbases. The starbases don't need supply and will never run out anyway; the construction ships don't use supply except getting there, and if you're building in a secure location they shouldn't run out of supplies before they arrive.

I played a game with this map and could not figure out why my ministered colony ships kept trying to colonize empty space. Now I know, the AI can see the planets, even though I cannot.

Hmmm, Didn't notice this effect since I rarely
set that minister on...

It makes me wonder what else the computer can see that we can't! I wonder if the computer would have seen it if I had just hidden it in a storm?

Let me know if you see anything else interesting!

A ring or spere world lets your star loose all its abilities. In a single star system e.g. you cannot build or destroy planets any more (annoying), you cannot use solar panels, create system nebulaes, use several crystalline facilities, nothing will be possible which needs a star in the system. Make sure to build planets out of your asteroids before finishing a sphere.
