Re: How Dumb Is Your Game AI?
Oh, you mean the times the AI:
Repeatedly sent ships through Unstable Warp Points into sectors with Black Holes. Had no treaties with me but agreed to swap large amounts of tech I desperately needed for an empty out of supply Colony ship, (of the same type as its home world). All warp points between the traded ship and the Ais space were blocked by satellites. It never made a treaty with me and never got the ship back. Eventually it moved into the path of a ship with a “Move To” command and was destroyed. “Mea Culpa”. |
Re: How Dumb Is Your Game AI?
My game AI is so dumb , it repeatedly tries to colonize a planet that's already colonized by another race.
My game AI is so dumb, it repeatedly tries to colonize a planet that's not there. My game AI is so dumb, in one turn it uses 6 transports to replete a planet of pop, the next turn it sends all 6 transports back, the next turn it repletes.......... My game AI is so dumb, it attacks a fleet of 15 dreads with a single LC. My game AI is so dumb, it creates attack fleets using all supply ships. [ 06 May 2002: Message edited by: Gandalph ]
|
Re: How Dumb Is Your Game AI?
Some races just won't accept gifts that will hurt my empire (like giving them the colonization techs they don't have) because they feel murderous towards me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
(Neutral races don't seem to realize the only reason why I keep them alive is to act as a buffer against this or that alien race. Let their system be the battlefield.) |
Re: How Dumb Is Your Game AI?
I've seen the AI do some stupid stuff. Like send and entire fleet into mothball and attack with me obsolete ships. But still, it's better than no AI.
In some games, the AI has given me a run for my money, others it hasn't. |
Re: How Dumb Is Your Game AI?
My game AI is so dumb it likes to start building units on the smallest planet with the least amount of available cargo space.
My game AI is so dumb it moves an invasion fleet with landing craft full of troops next to a target planet -and then the second fleet moves in on the same turn and glasses the precious piece of property so that the fleet with the landing troops never gets to attempt to capture the planet. My game AI is so dumb that fleets run back and forth between warp points - never choosing and following through with attacking a target. [ 07 May 2002: Message edited by: AJC ]
|
Re: How Dumb Is Your Game AI?
There is a proverb among Civ players ... " to the novice the AI is a threat, to the experienced player.. an obstacle, to the veteran ..a nuiscence & to the expert a bag of money & advances just sitting there waiting to be taken".

Re: How Dumb Is Your Game AI?
My AI is so dumb that I can steal a bunch of ships with Intel, and it doesn't stay mad if I gift some of them back. Steal 5, gift 2, steal 5, gift 2, steal 5, gift 2, ... and we're still best buddies. Most humans wouldn't put up with that!

Re: How Dumb Is Your Game AI?
Having just played a small tactical battle against the Jaenar, the AI handled the single enemy destroyer quite well. Too well in fact, gave me a real shock & I had to "get out of Dodge".

Re: How Dumb Is Your Game AI?
I finished (declared myself the winner in) a game Last night (1.67 with TDM) and checked to see how the AI's were doing. They provided some data for this thread.
The Sergetti were attacking me relentlessly early, so I finally sent in a fleet and glassed their homeworld. It was defended by one cruiser and one weapons space station - no WP'S or sats or mines or fighters. It also contained the Sergetti's only ship yards - one on the planet and 3 in orbit. For the rest of the game, the Sergetti just sat around on their thumbs building units on their 19 other planets and getting "No Storage Available" 19 times in its log each turn. The EEE had colonized all the gas giants in their area and had researched rock colonization, but they had not built any rock colony ships or colonized any of the excellent rock worlds. In fact, their 2 space yards and all their planets were idle. They were building nothing. They were, however, researching ice colonization so that they could also forget to colonize ice planets. The Cue Cappa had a dozen or more space yards, but they were also idle. The Colonials were "Warm" and "Receptive" with me the entire game but refused all treaties. They preferred to send cloaked light cruisers, one at a time, to attack my colonies. They died with up to 40 mines per planet in storage when I had no sweepers. The Fezzran also had many mines, satellites and troops in storage and were building more. Their log was also mostly "No Storage Available." The other AI's had similar problems. They all had maxed out their resource storage - usually 70K/90K/70K. They were all generating way more organics and radioactives than they need, and nobody seems to be able to launch a mine to actually protect a planet. |
Re: How Dumb Is Your Game AI?
IMHO the two biggest weaknesses in the AI are demonstrated by your experience with the thumb-sitting Sergetti.
1. They can't seem to clear the construction queue when they hit a "storage full" message. 2. They can't scrap facilities to build a space yard. These two issues prevent them from having a chance at rebuilding there empire after losing a couple of strategic planets, no matter how long they are ignored by the other players. Geoschmo |
