You might need to move the viewing window (click on the map in the bottom right)
That will force it to refresh the screen, and the grid should show up.

#10 - If 30 turns seems to short (or too long) you can go into the Settings.txt file and change the value up or down to your preference.

The only time I've been able to see the grid at all was over the planet in Tactical Combat.

Not seeing the grid could very well be a monitor problem.

My old monitor recently died and with it, I had to turn all the lights off in the house to be able to see the grid at all!

My new monitor picks them up fine even in broad daylight.

Try the "total darkness" thing first to see if you can find the grid. If that doesn't work, then yes, there may be a bug.
