Re: Is the PBW Site down?

I have PBW up in another window right now.

I have never undestood why people make Posts asking if some site is down; if you can't get to site A, but you can post on site B, it seems pretty obvious that site A is down.

Not necesserily so.
If I'm at work and can't get in, it might be the administrators at the work who has blocked that site or something that that site requires.
If I then post on another site and get a quick response saying:
"No, it's up, I can get in"
Then I have narrowed down the problem and can continue to search for what it is that's causing the problem.
(Or focus on the work instead maybe?)

(Works for an employeer with over 12000 employees, and a lot of computers. No direct connection with the admins obviusly)

Today I still couldn't access it at work, but at home everything was ok.
Dosen't really matters much as I don't play at work, just want to check the proggress (how many has uploaded, anything in the game forums etc).

Good point, I never would have thought of that. I only ever go Online from one home computer, so I don't have to deal with an IT department changing the firewall settings.

The reason I usually ask is cause when the Trans-Atlantic pipe (Australian-American link) goes down, you can still access some US sites, via Cache or Satellite, but not all.

The Trans-Atlantic pipe has been seriously damaged twice this year, once while doing maintenance & once by a trawler dragging its anchor.

Of course I'm also hoping its not our Firewall cause I'd have to fix it then.
