Does Trade alliance only preclude Trade/Research alliances, as I think it does? What's the reason for this rule? It seems that any alliance could serve any player's advantage. Knowing that you could ally with someone who will certainly sell you out (according the game's rules) is a risk you may have to consider worth taking. I would be more inclined to allow any alliances at all, but perhaps there are reasons for gameplay why we are doing this.

No the restriction is to Trade alliance (so NO trade/research alliance)
This to make all things clear and the idea that races only make partnership with races that they trust..., and yes you can still trade whatever with whomever.
That totally up to you, if you want to give your enemies an advantage.

Question. How much RPing in this game? I myself tend to be a 'light' RPer that'll act in-char and make the effort to speak in-char. My standards aren't high, but I have an extremely low tolerance for default Messages (exception being monthly or bi-monthly tech trades). I'd like to avoid having a partner that'll send me default Messages. Is this possible?

If yes, then please count me in, since this looks like an interesting game.

Hope I don't sound too picky...

Oh also, if RPing is involved, is anything gonna be done to prevent 'incompatible' races from being stuck as partners? (i.e. Serene pacifists with homicidal berserkers type thing, although I imagine bickering with a partner over just about everything might be interesting... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )

Its possible to created what evere kind of race.
Therefore its also possible to be allied whit some totally different race (berserker etc is possible)
The aim was to have another kind of victory conditions than in normal game (points).
And secondly I liked to make a team base game: so that you know that you have at least one ally.
And only with this alliance can you win this game.
So you have to do two things: find your partner and colonize your homeworld together.
Playing RP is totally up to you, but normally some kind of RP is played during the game (as was in home coming 1).

The only thing about this game: YOU CAN'T QUIT.
Because you partner is counting on you!!!!!!!!!!
Therefore only people that already finished 2-3 pbw are adviced to join.
(sorry about this, but its a lesson from home coming 1)

Hmmm... Alright I understand the no quitting rule. However, if I need an extended break (a few days to a week or two) for real-life business, would you be willing to pause the game?

What about e-mail communication? Is it allowed?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Bottom line- we want to keep breaks in the game to a minimum so as not to inconvenience all the other players. But as PBW players and Admins realize, there is real life out there... (I've heard of it at least). Often, if a player has to go away for the weekend it is perfectly understandable and acceptable. Also, the holidays cause a delay for some as well. Be courteous, give advance notice, and most of all, don't abuse the policy by doing it all the time. If you feel that you will be missing a bunch of turns and will be away from your computer often, perhaps the timing isn't right for you right now to get in a game.

As for email communications, they are allowed as long as you encounter the race in the game. The best part about that is that there can be no pre-collaboration whatsoever, because you won't know who your partner is until you actually meet them and read their description!

Sparhawk; this is just my 2 cents, add anything if I am off.

No Stone Mill perfect, that just what I would give as an answer:

So away for a couple of days is ok, but for >4-5 days is a problem. Then you have to find someone else to do your turns.

This game with also start half januari(you know christmas etc.)

Ah alright. Thanks for clearing things up. I don't plan on letting real life business interfere, but now and then it rears its ugly head http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Can't think of anymore questions. Would love to join the game if you'll let me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
