We had been having some upload problems the Last couple weeks before the server went down. I don't believe it was a server problem but an isp problem. Ove rthe LAN I was not experienceing any lag at all like I would if it were a server problem.

Hopefully whatever it was with the isp has been resolved in the mean time. Let me know if any of you are still lagging like that.

On the other hand, you get to slaughter some virtual races which can be fun http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

BAH, enough whining. Back to the info hunt

Racial Techs (organic, stellar, ect): Anywhere I can find info on these? I realise the temporal manip opens a new tech line, but what is in that tech line that would make it attractive? Same goes for the other racial trait tech lines.

Starting resources, 100k: WTF is up with this one? Sure, you start with 100k of each, but you only have storage for 50k. the rest is lost as soon as you end turn. I am assuming selecting this high setting has a negative impact on the final score. Thats ok, but if I am gonna pay that price, I want the (explative) resources available for use. I looked at the .txt files briefly to see if I could find where that was limited, but didn't find it, and I didn't know if just changing one line would hose the whole .txt file. Is there more to modding than just editing those files?

Start a High Tech game, and use a trait. See what it does.

You get 100k research too, which you can use. And, you can mod the default storage values in Settings.txt. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

racial techs....there has been quite a debate over what is best. as for finding out about them start a game but in the selections give yourself high starting tech and also can see entire tech tree. this will allow you to examine all facilities and components in the game. or if you are patient enough you can read the component.txt and facility.txt files.

here's what i find useful in each tech.

organic - i like the organic armor as it is able to regenerate damage each turn of combat until it is destroyed. also the gestation vats are useful for population growth.

temporal - the temporal shipyard give you an advantage in production but it take a while to get to them as you need temporal tech 4-6.

religous - the talisman allow all direct fire weapons to automatically hit targets in range. the various shrines are also useful. in order of pref for me. nature, war, death, time then fate.

crystalurgy - i like the crystalline restructuring plant as it reduces mtce costs on ships and bases. for combat the energy transmission lens adds to your shield stregth.

psychic - the Allegiance Subverter is a nice way to neutralize your enemy and gain their ships and technology.

hope this helps some. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Thanks. That was exactly the level of detail I was curious about.

Two good sources of info on SE IV are the Frequently Asked Questions For Newbies {link} thread, and the Encyclopedia Malfadorica {link}.

A slightly different way to skim or study Racial tech, faciites and such is with DavidGs modding program.
A must have utility.
