ummmm. I know zero about PBW and am still trying to develop a basic strategy for the game. To be honenst, 7/19 sounds intimidating. Like if I lose, they will say "you really snatched defeat from the jaws of victory". and if I win they will say it's only because i had the other person's start. hmmm. not that I care what they say.

I have not applied the patch yet, tho i have it DLed.

I have a lot of questions about PBW also. anyplace i can read up on that? maybe a bit premature for my SE4Gold game skill.

questions like how many turns a day are expected, who is time differences handled, ect..
My only MP experiences with other games, is PBEM-smac, IP-deadlock2 and hotseat-smac.

my email is on my profile, or pm. or pick another person. at this point, only the pillow matters.

It's played at PBW, all shipsets are availible in one zip file.
Generous support about PBW and the game is promised.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">So 48 hours per turn. Many newbies in the game. Good opportunity to learn about PBW, and you won't win/loose atleast before the summer, maybe later.
As the Nyrans stand now it would take atleast 20-40 turns to wipe them out (my approximation, worst case scenario). And to win the game will take propably more than a year from now for anyone (Also an approximation)

It seems it's apopular game.
It hasn't taken more than a few hours to fill empty spots so far. Mostly they get taken within the hour.
But, as to PBW experiance goes; This is my second PBW game and my first as host...
Now I'm playing in 5 games at the same time.

There are sure to be some more dropouts before the game finishes but sofar there haven't been that many.
Before these two I think we had one or two at the beginning of the game.

Re: Replacement Newbie player wanted, again!!

In retrospect, it's not really an aprehension about PBW, but about my strategy. Like I said, i have yet to play a simultaneous games, and have read strategies can vary greatly from tunr based mode (which makes sense). I have yet to even try things like repeat orders and such. I was thinking of playing that way in my next game after applying the patch, and then saw this thread re-appear and help off. Go ahead with the other person. I certainly am not offended, and my request was pre-mature. (see, I am a newbie. lol).
You may have only played a couple of PBW games, whereas I have only played a couple of SEIVg games. big difference.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">couslee, I can certainly identify with you! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I bought the game in August and started to play my first PBW game in September.

Were there mistakes in my strategy? Oh yes! Were there mistakes in my play? Oh yes! I must have made every Newbie mistake posted here. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Even being aware of the potential of the mistake, I still made them.

Waiting until you are comfortable is OK. No one should do something until they are ready to do something.

But if the idea is to enter PBW games with a sackful of skills to compete with the expert or intermediate player, I am sorry to disillusion you. IMHO, there is little comparison between playing solo against the computer AI's and simultaneous play in PBW.

You can get a hint of what playing a PBW game is like by playing a simultaneous game against the computer AI's.

But that is only a hint. Most strategies that work well against the computer AI's, do not work well against human opponents...errrrrr I mean my alien opponents. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Human opponents are faster, quicker and make far more intelligent decisions than the computer AI's. So losing a game against a human player is no disgrace. It would only be unfortunate if a person did not learn anything from the loss.

My first PBW game was, believe it or not, Survivor 2! It's a game full of experts. And maybe a few novices like me who "fell into it".

I was incredibly lucky not to be wiped out in that first round. If any expert had drawn a bead on me, he would have been home for lunch. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Now, maybe it will take him till dinnertime. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

But playing with the the experts has taught me new skills. And I am still learning!

So, whenever you are comfortable, join the PBW crowd. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Re: Replacement Newbie player wanted, again!!

I haven't played any single player games. Only a couple of turns to try varoius stuff.
I played a PBM game to turn 40-50 before entering my first game. Newbie Gold.
Where I've survied over 120 turns, but alas. I will be dead in just a couple of turns.
But I öearned alot that I'm using in the current games.
But as Tbontob ssays. you're welcome when you feel like it.
