Re: Ringworld Contruction
Or, build one on-site (and send lots of large transports to put billions of people on it). Be warned: the population bonuses only go up to 10 billion in the unmodded game. So, filling up a RW is actually a bad idea, as those extra 40-56 billion people could be used on other planets to get bonuses. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Ringworld Contruction
Oh yeah, Thanks! I have transposrts there and on there way there. I forgot about the colony ship. Thank goodness I had a Colony ship on the way to another system. SphereWorld for it now!

Re: Ringworld Contruction
I have actually never built a RW or SW before. Games are just over long before it becomes practical to build them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif I have played in 2 PBW games that used them as the HW though.

Re: Ringworld Contruction
One of the best ways I've extended games before is to get my empire to the point of building a RW, build one, and gift everything (planets, ships, etc.) EXCEPT the RW to the best AI left. Its almost like starting over with a challenging AI... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
Try it - those games IMO are a lot of fun... </$.02> |
Re: Ringworld Contruction
I built a ringworld and a sphere world in my first game. It did take forever to build, but you have a lot of spaces to fill in afteward. Now, with some of the mods I've played, I never to seem to progress that far into the game to attempt to build one. Usually because I seem to be getting my butt kicked and I need those resources for other things, or I'm just so tired of losing that I start another game. I was playing a couple of games that seemed promising as far as my progression seemed, but now that my computer was zapped, it will probably be awhile before I get back to those games.

Re: Ringworld Contruction
Ive built a few ringworlds in a few games, but never a Sphereworld. I agree though, its highly impractical. Id rather use those resources and build up a nice shiny fleet of Carriers and Dreadnoughts.

Re: Ringworld Contruction
i have built a sphereworld once in a game because the sun in my homesystem was going to go nova in 3 years time. Then you really want to build the sucker fast, i tell ya.
If i was in another less important system, i might not have bothered. |

Re: Ringworld Contruction
I actually built 3 ringworlds simultaneously once; in one of the trinary systems that appear in-game. That system also had a single huge asteroid field that I converted to a huge planet before I finished the ringworlds - that way I could stick all the system-affecting facilities somewhere besides a ringworld.
In a different game, I built a sphereworld, filled it with weapon platforms, converted some of the shipyard bases to fighter platforms, opened multiple warp points over the sphereworld, and then populated the colony with captured population from the Terrans. It was a pretty cool idea, I thought - use the sphereworld as a gigantic POW camp (I mean "relocation facility"), and make it a major defense installation at the same time. After all, there's no sense sacrificing my own people in a potentially huge battle with the enemy... |
