Honestly, playing against the AI in small galaxies, high bonus and 3 or 4 good TDM AIs, is very hard to me win and usually lost my games.

IF I can win more than 2 times without lose, simply I change the game setting playing AIs vs Humans... and then I lose again.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yeah, I'm going to start a game like that soon. I usually played in a large galaxy so that made it easier. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Time to make it tough on me.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Don't worry... usually I was more than once wrong about something of this game...
But can remember very well that Tampa Gamer did a bunch of cultures that did the AI a lot more strong players (with more bonuses).

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif The problem with the AI is that in big galaxies, have problems to decide were need to attack or to defend, because have more potential places to defend/attack. Then, agree that is a LOT more weak in big galaxies.

Sure, playing in small galaxies you can't feel the "epic" side of the game... then I strongly suggest if you play big galaxies, that you play with AI vs humans.

Re: more questions

Personally, I colonize every planet I can. Even a small or tiny planet can hold at least one storage facility, and that's one more than I had before. I try to balance out the storage vs the mining, because it makes no sense to have all of that "money" to go to waste just because you can't store it. And then I'll research the monoliths and robot factories and other things that will increase production and storage.
