Re: Gas, Atmosphere none?

Dingocat, have you tried that in a mod like FQM that has all atmospheres for moons? Maybe doing that allows moons to be rebuilt with any atmosphere without having to do any conVersions.

Hey, I didn't know moons could have atmosphere..!
I guess I'll use the FQM in my next game....

Re: Gas, Atmosphere none?

Is there a code restriction or atmospheric converters don't work because there is no planet defined in sector types matching the required type and atmosphere?
Has anyone tried to mod non-gas planets?

So... what would happen if you destroyed ALL the planets, then tried to rebuild one? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Early Versions of the game (maybe just beta Versions) allowed for no-atmosphere gas giants but the community soon noticed how silly that was ("Sir! We have detected a large mass!" "Onscreen! ... umm... there's nothing there, Lieutenant!" "Yes sir, but according to stellar cartography there's SUPPOSED to be a planet around here SOMEWHERE!" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif )

Re: Gas, Atmosphere none?

I remember that a looong time ago (before the advent of PBW - a lot of patches ago, also) in a MP game a big planet was destroyed (a large or huge planet, probably... I remember it as being "big"), I can't remember if it was a random event or a tectonic bomb. Anyway, somehow TWO asteroid belts appeared... Later on, I created two planets from the two asteroid belts - and both had atmosphere (and the smaller one was small, not tiny, IIRC).

Anyway, that game was plagued by bugs... weird things happened from time to time, and it often hanged during turn execution...

Andres:
Moons use the same entries in SectType.txt that planets do, so that can't be it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Interesting question, until you realize that if you destroyed all planets, your Empire would be dead, and unable to do anything http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Allright, so in theory (and common sense http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) it doesn't work...but has anyone tried it? I'm no modder, and I don't really want to do it "the natural way" - Playing out a whole game, getting the Converters, and waiting 3 years (30 turns) to see what happens http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Build a bunch of Ringworlds or Sphereworlds first! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

As has been said already, trying to convert a Gas Giant to no atmosphere has no effect.
