I will try to enjoy... might be hard though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Actually... what happened to the "all ship sets in one file" option? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

I don't see one of my Favorites from the PBW library, "the Dominion" on your site, not the star trek Dominion but another one with this pop portrait:

As PBW is down I can't give more specifics.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The one you have on your site listed as "The Dominion/TD" is the same shipset that Ruatha is talking about, but it's an older Version. Deccan has posted several updates of it, the most recent has the female race pic that Ruatha posted earlier.

I guess the most confusing part Tesco is you have the "The Dominion/TD" shipset in your index under T instead of D.

order is by directory... until i change the pages to database driven... So you can sort by Race Name , Directory etc... I did this to keep with the current SOTAS standard.

And since Dominion is already used by the ST DS9 race I added the THE to it.
I will update the picture and the zip with the latest file.

Re: www.tescosamoa.com comments

Sorting by directory is not my preferance, I don't care for it on the SOTAS site either. But that is a personal thing, I can deal with it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

But adding "The" and sorting "The Dominion" under "T" is just too confusing. You really should change it to "Dominion (B)" or something like that and sort it under "D" after the DS9 Dominion shipset.

ok geo. i will change it when i get home

Dominion(b)

it is...

p.s. that is why i am going to change the ship sets to load out of a database and have it set up so you can choose your sorts and filters

such as show all ship sets by author sort by race name

etc...

But that will be after I get the other part of the site upto speed.... As I just wanted to get the static stuff off the ground. See what people liked / disliked and then adjust.

A great site.
My only request is to keep the colors as readable as they are. Please try to avoid Blue lettering with a black background.
Thanks for all of your hard work.

Yep, I took it from my races folder, sometimes I alter the appearance of the pictures some, changes ship colours, pop portrait and so on, and then I forget that I've done so. Sorry.

(Just does it to enhance my own SE4 sessions, I don't spread the alterations, except one that is uploaded to the PBW but clearly stated that it is a minor alteration of an existing shipset.)

Sorry, I don't have time to read the whole thread, pretty busy, but have you thought about organize your shipset section by various methods and letting the user decide how he wants to view them? Like, sort by directory name, race name, author name?

What happens in a 5000 point game when a race has AI files but no EMP file?

Fyron August 10th, 2003 02:13 AM

Re: www.tescosamoa.com comments

EMP files are only ever used if you manually load them. Otherwise, AI empires are always generated from the AI files. So, the AI will use whatever it is designed to use in 5000 point games.

SamuraiProgrammer August 10th, 2003 02:16 AM

Re: www.tescosamoa.com comments

Thanks for the quick answer.

I was concerned as I noticed that some races come with emp files for the different point totals.

Re: www.tescosamoa.com comments

Tesco, if its too much trouble to revise the files so all shipsets are Gold compatible, just have an indicator showing whether a shipset is optimized for Gold or Classic. I really hate it when I start a game and see those error screens. Grrr.

Atrocities August 10th, 2003 05:54 PM

Re: www.tescosamoa.com comments

Most races come with 3 sets of EMP's, 2k, 3k, and 5k points.

Tesco,

in the file rg_ai_general:

Bezerkers is misspelled as Beserkers

in Aquilaeian_ai_fleets:

there is a reference to a fleet formation Compact which does not exist in the basic game.

No problem, I have fixed my copies.

I would be glad to send them to you, but I am not what I would call proficient at AI.

If everyone would point out the deficiencies, you can be 'home' to the corrected copies.

Have a great week!

Tesco,

I've just came back from holiday (if one can consider a wedding preparation week is holiday...), and I've just had a look at your site.

Few things I think about it :

- couldn't find the huge download section you are talking about (All I've found is the download section of the ladder universe, with 11 downloads in it ?). Too bad that section has no preview pics...

[Just understood what you were meaning, your shipset download section is in fact a shipset link section ! I'm quite surprised about it, I thought that your primary idea was to create a new shipset hosting zone, with many files to upload in it ?]

- SE IV suppository : seems to be a big copy/paste of existing sites with no file to download (just external links)... what's the use of it ? It's harder to maintain several link lists than managing only one, and it will be hard for you to keep all those pages up to date. When I took in charge Andre's racedir, it was because he asked me to do so, because he was fed up with it.

Sure you did a huge work indeed, but don't you think it's a bit redundant with what already exists ?

Re: www.tescosamoa.com comments

I forgot : Why put a pre-gold shipset download section in the ladder universe ? (anybody still plays pre-gold ? ) I think it's more usefull to take old shipsets and correct them to have them work with SEIV gold (that's what I did with those hosted on Sotas).

And : Why is the ladder section so different in its design from the suppository section ? (one has a black background, and the other a white one, I first thought there were two different sites !)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Actually there is more to it then that. I kind of thought the same thing you did but what I didn't notice at first, and you apparently missed it too, is that if you click on the race portraits you can download the shipset from Tescos site directly. So you have the links to the authors page, and then Tesco is offering them for download from his site as well.

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/blush.gif Oh, missed that. I think it's a point that should be clearly noticed on the site. It changes a lot of things on the site usefulness...

http://www.spaceempires.net has 243 ship sets hosted in the Downloads > Space Empires IV Gold > Shipsets section. I sent you (Trooper) an email about this several days ago. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif I do not have any sort of preview, but then, I am not quite sure how to go about doing that with the existing PHP scripts anyways. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif And FYI, I added all of the files to the database (once uploaded) in about 3 seconds with an automated script. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

And yes, there is a fairly large number of people that do not have gold and play 1.49 (they either can not buy it or refuse to buy it).

Fyron : I've missed your mail an site too (as I'm progressively going back to life, I realize that I have much work to do...) This is a site that has to be added on the SOTAS's links. I also have to update the racedir, because many new creations have been realized during the Last weeks...

Tesco : No picture available at the moment, but there will be plenty of them...
