<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Been there, tried that. Aliasing on the GIF makes it look "ghosted" around the edges if I just use the symbol. As I recall, there was ghosting on the edges because of anti-aliasing...then if I got rid of all of the "bad" edging, it looked a bit jagged (as seen in the one you did for me).

So, I had a choice of which I'd rather live with. I decided looking the way I wanted it to 50% of the time (and not being too bad the remaining part of the time) was better than looking at "jaggies" all the time. And while we're on this topic.. Anyone remember the colorscheme they had before the green one that they had for the Last 2 years or so?
