I probably shouldn't do this but I'm going to join. The map sounds too interesting to pass up, plus being a NGC game it will have to bring good times. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Hi.

No need to download anything.

Upload your empire as soon as possible, we won't start until you have...

After all has chosen empire I will collect all shipsets in one zipfile for your convinence and will give you instructions in how to use it, it's quite simple.

Everybody should have enough time to develop and build ringworlds if he likes. Same goes for long-distance wormholes - no need to make crossovers into every corner of the galaxy possible, no need to have contact with all 20 players after a few turns. From my experience in NGC3, when empires get bigger, wormhole openers tend to appear in significant numbers - although the game will be only in a "middle" stage then.

You know that balancing of planet types is important - i would also like to see more balancing of mineral, organic and radioactives to. As they can influence gameplay - set em low and encourage condintions and values upgrades in the later game or set em high to encourage big fleets, rapid building expansion and up front attacks and in youre face tactics from the start - lowering them restricts early game ship numbers and encourages a more prolonged reserach and fleet buildup.

Question: Regarding this rule..

5. Absolutely no e-mail diplomacy prior to in-game contact. You may mail each other on all other issues but not concerning in-game events and strategies prior to in-game contact.

How are you going to be able to enforce this? I mean, I don't plan on engaging in e-mail exchanges with the other players. (And if you have a way of monitoring my e-mails then I would apreciate you telling me how, and should I now worry about my e-mail being monitored by you?)

It just seems wierd how this rule seems to imply that you can monitor e-mails.

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Ahh, but I do got a mail monitor program, constantly scanning all mails sent in the world with certain keywords, including NGC4....

It's a standard rule in many games, not just mine. It means that I trust you on this by informing you that you shouldn't do it.
If it somehow comes out that it has happened there will be kickin done.

It has happened in games I've played before, usually by people forgetting about the rule but the recepient usually remembers the rule and then they both go public with the mistake. (it migh have happened much more but that I wouldn't know of).
(Mistakes usually don't get you kicked!)

In Orbit of the Homeworld

Councillor Dokeo looked out the window into the depths of space. The view in front of him was all but barren, it was only filled by the partly completed form of a vessel. The Council had decided that for the good of the State expansion was needed, and to begin that task this vessel was to be built. Slowly Dokeo could hear two others approach his back, without turning he spoke.
"Is the construction on schedule?" he asked.
"Yes brother. We have all but completed" answered Ergon, Chief foreman for space construction. Dokeo knew Ergon to be a hardy worker, no effort to much for the good of the State. Where it not for the touch of the gods he might well have found himself working alongside. The Gods though had greater tasks in mind for Dokeo and he was glad to obey.
“We should build Warships, not glorified transports!” exclaimed Polemo, the Auxiliary representative. Dokeo was not surprised to hear such thoughts from the Soldier caste.
“Ever are we Guardians… and Tradesmen” said Dokeo motioning to Ergon, who nodded in reply” willing to listen to the Auxiliaries in time of conflict, and if and when we find others who might be a threat we shall heed your words, but for the moment the council has spoken and our tasks have been set”
“Hmmph” grunted Polemo.
“Continue with your tasks, my brothers, I shall return to the Council and report we are on schedule. For the good of the State” he ended.
“For the good of the State” replied the other representatives in unison, as tradition dictated.

The Birthing Season

"Order!, Order in the council chambers."
"Good people, as you know the Birthing Season is upon us once again. However, this season if we do not expand our Colony we will soon perish as a species."

a wave of murmering and whispers spreads across the council chambers as people digest this sad but true fact.

"But fear not, our good colony minister 'Mr. Columbus' has a bold plan to expand our colony to nearby planets and even neighbouring star systems." The gathered crowd takes in a sharp gasp at this announcement.

"I know the idea of leaving your home world is a frightening one, but it is a necessary evil that we must embrace if we are to survive. I now put forth a call for vollenteers to brave the new frontiers that we shall discover. So any who would like the Honor and Gratitude of your fellow citizens please report to the Colony Minister for your new off-world assignments."

Surprisingly the vast majority of people raise their hands in excitement. Eager to become pioneers in this bold new era.

Let the games begin.

One player uploaded the wrong empire file, using 0 racial points instead of 2000. Obviously he thinks this will be a serious handicap and has asked for a restart. I hate restarts, but I would have asked for it aswell if it was me! 16 players have uploaded their first turns, should we restart?
