Re: The Battle of the Baltics

Thanks Asmala, I must have missed it somehow. In this case storms are Banned for sure.
As I understand, we still have only 5 Finnish players...
Game settings are as Liudas mentioned. No limitations on racial traits (only religious Banned) or atmosphere types. Intel/ruins/trade/whatever also allowed. 3000 racial points.

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

FQM maps are better than stock so we may use it. In the game LT vs USA we had a great 'surprise' map made by Unknown_Enemy who was also the GM for the game. The same would be great this time too. I will open a new thread for the subject.

Liudas February 25th, 2004 01:48 PM

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

Yes, there was few unpleasant suprises, mostly in USA side. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif But it makes the game more intresting.

Karibu February 29th, 2004 04:10 PM

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

My suggestion is following:

1. 3000 racial points
2. Ban talisman, but not religious (nature shrine is still tempting)
3. Ban Ancient race
4. Intel is on.

Also, patch 1.91 ispublished, so the storm creator question is academic (I suppose we use the newest patch). Now we need someone to set the rules on stone, create map and create the game so we can start. Also confirmation of players would be nice.

Pablo February 29th, 2004 04:41 PM

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

Yes, Karibu, you are correct. And you may check out this thread as there are some discussions about map and GM for our game.

Asmala February 29th, 2004 09:22 PM

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

I need a clarification for two things:
1. Ancient, is it Banned or not?
2. Why turns are Timed turns only and not Fully automatic?

Pablo March 1st, 2004 03:38 PM

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

Ancient is Banned together with talisman.
Timed turns are for the reason that in our game against USA we had some gaps between turns for a week or even more. After that the GM set timed turns and everything started to move forward.

Asmala March 1st, 2004 05:05 PM

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

But if all players are ready why should we wait?

Karibu March 1st, 2004 05:11 PM

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

I think that the best option would be to use LPU (Last player upload), so when the Last player uploads his/her turn, the new turn is generated automatically but not before.

Also all the game settings must be listed somewhere (racial points, mods, starting resources, etc.) before we can make the empires.

Btw. one more suggestion: Scores are only visible to allied palyers. Then it is more exciting when you don't know if your opponent is stronger and it makes intel more important.

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

Karibu, you are correct again - score will be visible only of allies. I told you what happened in our game against USA with ALPU turning. Somebody leaves the game and it just freezes. I agree we can try ALPU in this game but with the condition that turn duration is no longer than 3 days. 3 days is because sometimes people leave for the weekend without internet connection.

I joined the game and the game shows gray (as it should) in my list when I go to PBW, but I can't see my race in "pending join" -state in the game player listing. I hope it is there...

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

OK, a bit about the map then.

In each of your home systems you will find a strange warppoint in the corner (don’t worry it’s not damaging). These warpoints lead to the Vilnius and Helsinki systems. Use these for easy communication and sending reinforcements when needed.

Beware, apart from this line of communication, your allies may be far away and your enemies may be close (it differs).

I don’t think I have to remind you of the importance to guard this backdoor well if one of your teammembers gets swarmed early http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Also Hese and Asmala are still missing. I informed Hese yesterday and he was still coming. I think it may take few days for them to make their empire files. Also I think we have to negociate with ourselves (Fin team) how to organize our race stats so that we can get best out of it.

Fin team so far:
Hese
Asmala
Simplify
Karibu
Tuksa

Intel: On

The map sounds great. I can't wait till the game starts. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif However it'll take some time before we (FIN team) have discussed our strategies.

Asmala is right. I wish you Lithuanians are patient with us (well, you get to kick our asses soon enough http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) for organizing the races of 6 people takes some time.

Primitive, the description in PBW isn't quite correct. You could copy this descpription to there:

Game name: LT vs FIN, Battle of the Baltics

Starting planets: 3
Home planet value: Good

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

I have a little problem. I have made empire using Borg shipset. However, in SEIV shipset download section is several borg shipsets and when I go to upload my empire, there is only 2 borg shipsets in combobox.

How can I be sure the other shipset is same as the one in my computer? Or that it would not generate any errors during game. The first option is to use "default shipset (build in)", which I assume that my empire file includes my shipset. How can this be done? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Asmala March 10th, 2004 10:14 PM

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

"default shipset (build in)" means you're using a shipset which is in stock SE4 (ie. the Version you install from cd). Even if you're using a stock ships set, say Phong, you shouldn't pick "default shipset (build in)" but "Stock Shipset - Phong" so others know what you've selected and selection of two same shipsets can be avoided.

I don't know other way to find out which Borg shipset you're using but downloading them all and then comparing.

geoschmo March 10th, 2004 10:23 PM

Re: The Battle of the Baltics

It probably doesn't really matter which Borg shipset you are using. All SE4 cares about when you play your turn is that there is a shipset folder with the correct name. I would guess most or all of the borg shipsets out there have the folder named just "borg" so any of them should work. As far as teh AI files needed for processing, those are on teh PBW server and is not affected by which borg shipset you happen to be using on your own pc.
