The link gets you to the "all about TDM 3.40" just fine, but the actual download link at the bottom of the page is busted.

I'm sorry guys, but the server seems to be down and the Admin is on vacations. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
I'm sure he will fix it early next week.

I can sent it to you via E-Mail if your box is big enough (9.5 MB as a download, make that about 13 MB via E-Mail). Drop me a PM with your E-Mail and I sent it to you.

Re: TDM-ModPack 3.40 Beta

If I offered new ship sets for the Romulan and Klingons using the ships I have made would any one be interested in using them for the TDM? Also I would like to go over the AI since God Emperor is now offically MIA.

If no one minds I would like to borrow from other successful AI's to make the new AI for these two races.

Re: TDM-ModPack 3.40 Beta

Atrocities, you would be welcome to re-work the Romulans and Klingons and of course the mentioned AIs.
The Version on Fyrons site isn't the latest incarnation of the TDM-ModPack. I suggest to download the TDM-Upgrade whenthe server is back up, this should give you all of the latest files.

I have no offical word on the timing. The server has a broken piece of RAM that needs replacement. As it is a small company it will still take an uncertain amount of time till someone gets to the physical server location and replaces the broken hardware. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Re: TDM-ModPack 3.40 Beta

I was wondering what (or if) there was a magic thing that makes the TDM game so hard.

Game 1 - TDM 3.40 MOD Custom ship set with Custom EMP files, no special tech, 5k racial points

8 AI, 11 Neutral. High Bonus, Hard difficulty

HARD game although I dont care much for score i'm in 4th now but I only have about half of the score of the 3rd place, and 1/5th of the 1st place player. At one point I had to frantically seal my emprie away from all the others by closing warp points. I just opened up and slammed into the Cue Cappa (Intel attacks are so devastating) Took 7 systems in a pinch and am considering closing down again as I'm getting pounded by their intel. AI has massive fleets and they often seemed to be grouped together instead of spread out. Taking any planet is an exercise in pain, mostly the Weapons Platforms cause it but the 100's of fighters arnt much fun either.

OVERALL: VERY HARD, probably hardest game I've played.

GAME 2: STM 1.75 MOD Dominion, 5k racial points.

7 AI, 12 Neutral AI using STM Major Systems Map.
Set mode to team, so all AI are allied against me. High Bonus, Hard difficulty

Seems Easy. Not being pressured by Intel, keeping up in the tech war without much difficulty (3 races have better tech than me). Ships that come at me are often destroyed before they can fire, havnt lost a combat ship yet. I'm in 8th place but not having a hard time.

So I'm wondering what the difference is? Why is TDM so hard vs other mods i've tried? is it the AI bonus? or something else? Possibly Team mode isnt as challenging as it supposed to be?

BTW I love the challenge this mod provides!

I believe it comes from an ancient cabal of ungodly modders who appeared on the SE4 scene and created the most evil and advanced AI to date, they now lurk in their ancient caves think more evil challenges for SEV.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Actually it's a lot of hard work by the TDM modpack modders who tested and pushed the AI to it's limits. I see they have yet again got another satisfied customer http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Because STM AI was the secondary goal of the mod creators, then TDM AI was the ONLY goal of the mod creators.
Unfortunately, talanted AI designer and talanted modder are rarely the same person.

No...i told you, secret cabal of ungodly modders. You think mephisto picked his name on a whim http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

But yeah aiken is right, TDM improves the AI phenomenally, STM changes the entire game, which means you have to rerwrite a lot of the AI files. And then test them http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Does this latest download of TDM 3.40 include the 3.40beta2 changes?

Yes, this is correct. This Version includes all previous changes. The different size comes from an improved compressor in the setup program.

Excellent! And thank you very much. Since the Version number remained constant and did not change to 3.41 or whatever there was an element of uncertainty. Thanks again.

Re: TDM-ModPack 3.40 Beta

I made some changes in my TDM Data files and i wish to know if they will have any impairing effect in the TDM AIs... I basically reduced the Research Point productionto a fifth of the normal rate, and added Research Point generation (a small amout) to all ship sensors components and to the Master Computer components....

What effects this would have in the AI?

Thanks

Re: TDM-ModPack 3.40 Beta

I've noticed that post v1.91 patch, the TDM AI's still build Robotoid Factories on their Mineral, Organic and Radioactives Facility planets. Since the research for a Robotoid is much less than the individual production booster facilities (Mineral Scanners, Hybrid Eco-farms, Radioactives Colliders), most people use robotoids. But since most people play with some kind of AI bonus, the AI can quickly research these other facilities.

Since post v1.91, the individual booster facilities have a much higher bonus than the Robotoid, it seems worthwhile to use them. I'm not sure how hard it would be to have the AI use these individual booster facilities over the Robotoid, but it might be worth looking into. I think the placement of these facilities in "facility.txt" might be causing the AI to build the Robotoids over the individual booster facilities, and since the AI won't scrap facilities, this might not be possible for the TDM mod since it doesn't mod the facility.txt file. Anyway, this is just a suggestion if another revision to this mod is ever issued.

Re: TDM-ModPack 3.40 Beta

Thanks, I never noticed that those Mineral Scanners, Hybrid Eco-Farms and Radioactives Colliders are better than the Robotoid Factories. I've been building Robotoid Factories and not bothering with those other facilities because I wasn't paying attention to the bonuses that they give. I'm going to have to build those other ones and scrap the Robotoids! Well, depending on the situation of course, considering the size and values of the planets, etc. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Slick August 29th, 2005 12:05 PM

Re: TDM-ModPack 3.40 Beta

Pre v1.91 the individual booster facilities had the same bonuses (individually) as the Robotoid, and since the Robotoid is much cheaper to research, people were willing to spend the extra construction costs.

Post v1.91, you get more bonus for less construction costs. Makes the research worth it.
