I just remembered that I always guess time by remembering that 9am in New York is 11pm here (I was watching TV at 11 pm on 9/11). This means 9pm there should be 11am, which means I can play.

I just changed my clocks time zone to EST and it says 12am here is 10 am there. I can play http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif . Yet, if 11pm was 9am then 11am (not 7am) should be 9pm.
This is all very confusing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Having two or more Rangers for this adventure will be fine (actually needed). Don't forget some Rangers prefer swords while other specialize in bow (or both).
We could also use a figther or Barbarian class to be the lead during heavy encounters.

Yes, you are correct. I was referring to Greenwich loacl time rather than GMT itself. The point that I was trying to make, and that still holds, is that the UK does follow daylight savings time, albeit staggered a week from the US and that The West Coast is 8 hours behind the UK right now.

Fyron June 30th, 2004 08:30 PM

Re: Online D&D Gaming

I was refering to GMT itself merely as a point of reference. Those living in the UK will have to know about daylight savings time and all as well. Now back to D&D...

Randallw - I am going to take a Ranger/Cleric so he wont be as good as a pure ranger at the strictly ranger abilities. It would not be a bad idea to have a pure ranger or a pure cleric if someone wanted that... This is just a character personality I have established, is flexible, and normally works with most Groups.... Also I wont be there the frist game night.. It will be the second game night before I can get there (assuming weekly game nights)

Besides Talon (the character name for my Ranger/Cleric) would greatly appreciate a fellow ranger to have some shop talk and learn new tricks.

Rasorow (on the Boards)
Talon (Ranger/Cleric - though will probably just use my forum name to cut down confusion in-game)

Updated list of players and character types:

Narf: Elf Wizard - Lae'nial
Rasorow: Half-elf Ranger Cleric
Fyron: Elf Rogue - Sulimo Mandrallorn
Randallw: Ranger
Hugh Manatee: ???
Dumbluck: Dwarf Fighter - Draknor

Once you make your character sheet in Open RPG, you can use the Export to HTML function to save it to an HTML file. Email it to me (see profile), and I will post it on the site with my character and with Dumbluck's. If you want to hide your alignment for role playing purposes, open the HTML file in Notepad. In the Game Tree, expand the + sign next to your character. Locate the ClassesAndStats section. Expand it. Then, expand Ability Scores. If you right click on an ability, say strength, it will make a strength check roll in the chat window automatically.

Syllogism July 2nd, 2004 12:14 AM

Re: Online D&D Gaming

I run a D&D IRC channel, so maybe I can answer a few questions.

3.5 vs 3.0 Very basically 3.5 nerfed a bunch of spells ( primarily buff spells) and made rangers and dwarves VERY powerful. It also nerfed the sorcerer class, slightly boosted bards ( a good change IMO), improved the skill list, altered monster damage resistance significantly, and changed the spell focus and power attack feats and a number of popular prestige classes.

I don't like 3.5, but I play casters and the thing I liked best about 3.0 was that it had nice strong (but not crazy strong IMO) spellcasters.

If you want to look at the differences read the SRD ( Note that the srd isn't as "user friendly" as the players handbook, since it was writen for gme designers to reference)

http://www.opengamingfoundation.org/srd.html has the 3.0 srd and a link to the 3.5 as well.

Our first character story is complete!
Dumbluck will be receiving a small bonus item and trait for being the first to give us a story. Draknor Burnbeard History

Hating elves will be a great roleplaying addition, especially since his family mission is more important than his hatred.

Keep the stories and good character generation coming. I have a lot of work to do but our first adventure should be a fun one.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Hmm. I was going to post my story, but it seems Cyclop beat me to it! Oh well. Here are a few minor edits/additions.

-Draknor’s Great Grandfather Repinor Stoutfoot died before Draknor was born.

-Gratnor Burntbeard (Draknor's Grandfather) died when Draknor was 10 years old.

-Tarnor (Draknor's mother) died giving birth to Draknor. Felnor then became the head of the family.

-...He currently knows only that it was Elves that attacked Repinor all those years ago. But a remote cousin (Topsider Eon Walestone) of his Stoutfoot clan has been rumored to be working as a gem miner near the Molivar pass. Some of the older miners told Draknor that the miners at Molivar Pass often go down to trade at the trading town near the entrance of the Molivar pass. ...

I'm working on my character at the moment. I have installed openRPG. I have a question. In the how to section of the character builder it says once I have entered my stats and stuff "click on the +(plus) next to the gears, and right click. This will cause it to roll what is needed to roll". I can see 2 gear icons and neither has a + next to it.

Edit: By the way I am using a 3.5 PH book. If there are any differences please point them out.

Cyclops. I have practically done my character, just have to buy all my equipment. openRPG doesn't seem to allow me to record all my equipment seperately. Only one square for it all.
ALso I have CC2 viewer and a map of Greyhawk. Since you had a full map I didn't mention it, but It has the option to measure distances (even along winding rivers etc) eg. Lopolla to Molvar is 165 miles and the blashikmund river is 557 miles long.

That CC2 viewer with Greyhawk map sounds great!
We can probably make a plugin input area for equipment once we get use to the OpenRPG program.
For now just list equipment in an email format and send it to me. Don't feel too overburdened to purchase all of the needed equipment before we start as there will be ample time in the trading village before any real encounters begin.

Cyclop,

How are you handling spells for clerics? Also I happen to have the full set of Priest Companion spell books... the ones that came out just before 3.0. Any of those spells valid (few decent low lvls that I like) or just keep to standard kit?

Also, I am not familiar with Greyhawk as I did most of my adventuring in either Forgotten Realms around Waterdeep or (most often) in custom worlds. Would it be possible for you to let me know Diety choices?

Thanks,

The good news is that most haven't played in the Greyhawk realm so it will all be new. The other good news is that I rarely ever stay to the "campaigns" created for each world. What I like to do is give objectives that the group picks from and they evolve with the party instead of filtering a group through a pre-constructed adventure from A-Z.

Here are some great links to help you learn more about the world of Greyhawk.

Greyhawk Gods
Greyhawk Locations
Greyhawk Site
Legends of Greyhawk

Try and stay with the 3.0 and 3.5 rules but if you see something you like I am flexible http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I don't suppose I could get a link to an informative n00btorialon on character creation? I've figured out the forms in Open RPG, just not what to put in them, maybe like a list of all my options and what they do... something like that. <font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">NWN is more or less like D&D. There are a few changes to how some feats and skills function, due to it being a computer game and all. You could design your character in-game, then transfer it to OpenRPG (manually of course). Well, except for ability scores, which you need to do manually as we are using a different system.

Clerics are not too unfriendly. They combine spellcasting with decent combat abilities, so you are not stuck in one role or the other.

Personally, I would prefer to never see a monk... The monk class is extremely unbalanced class, even in 3.5...

Havent played anything but 1st and 2nd ed and just got a hold of a 3rd ed players today and it came as something as a rude shock.

So Cyclop, I would actually start as either a ranger or cleric then add later correct? Also I never saw in there but I take it its 1 feat at frist lvl and then feats are gained based on your overall all lvl not your class lvl..

Sorry just need to check my understanding.

Also I will be modifing my ability scores based on the new information from what I sent you... Apparently Cha plays a greater role in these rules....

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Yes, you get one feat at 1st level, and when you gain a level, you can pretty much take it in any class, given some limitations. You gain feats based on total level, not on individual class levels, but you gain class skills based on class level.

It's a little different from 2nd Ed, but I find that it actually plays pretty well. I usually don't bother to multi-class much, because the benefits of sticking to one class can be pretty high.
