Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!

I'll do hardpoint data plus preliminary slot data for my ships. Naturally I also test how it looks in the game.

EDIT: Btw. If anyone's interested I have added Excalibur into the game.
Conducting weapon tests
Flying inside a nebula
It still needs better textures and little scaling.

I see... Well in anycase I need your E-mail DeadZone. Gotta send some files your way.

Exan thanks for the hardpoints, BTW Excalibur looks great in Nebulae. One Last thing why can't I DL Spacedock 2?

For all of you please send ANY finished products (Models, stories, ideas, etc) to my E-mail so I can insert them into the game. And another thing please include a readme of some kind, I was never good at installing mods http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Well I've gone straight to oweners of Staryards and asked permission to use most of his models in our game, I should get a reply in a day or two.

I know you said we have permission DeadZone, but there is no harm in bringing a bullet proof vest to a shootout. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

If all goes well you modellers can go a take a break.

Oh I almost forgot the most important descision of the day!!!

I've finally got a list of race put together for the game. (My mind is made up!!)

Federation
Orion Pirates
Klingons
Romulans
Neutral

So that's good news for Exan, only about 100 or so starsystems need to be made.

SamZaWild E-mail me ASAP (Dmart897@yahoo.com) we have to discuss that story tomorrow!!!

Keep up the good work everyone.

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!

Well since the modeller knows his/her models best it's easiest for him/her to do the hardpoints himself. It's really easy. Just open the model in some 3D program and create a sphere with 1 in the radius. Then just move the sphere around where you want for example the weapon fire and take the write down the coordinates. Repeat the process until you got all the hardpoints covered and then simply write them to the SpaceObjects_XFiles.txt.

I've used this method to get all the hard points for my models and it has never failed. (expect for Pearl Dragon and I can't quite figure why)

I'm not sure who originally told me this so I don't want to take credit from this method. But it works.

Phoenix-D June 20th, 2004 08:49 PM

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!

I've tried that, but the cordinate systems don't seem to match up.

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!

Well the Pearl Dragon which hard point data I did with 3D Studio Max failed. The others I've done with anim80r and they've all worked nicely.

Sorry didn't got any. My dyards.at.mbnet.fi address is redirected to my school's email address and the server tends to destroy all Messages with zip file attachments.

I doubt I'll have the time to convert the models anyway. It takes some job because I have to render the portrait images, transform the ship into x format and edit the datafiles. It takes quite some time.

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!

Utopia321, I got the models now. I think I can finish Intrepid by tomorrow. I haven't even unzipped the files yet because I've been rather busy today.

The other models have to wait I'm afraid to the end of july. Tomorrow I have lots of things to do because I'll be leaving town for almost a month.

Other thing...I browsed today through some Star Trek sites to get information. Well what puzzles me is the timeline safe warp engine. What does happen if you go past warp 5 without one? I didn't find answer to that.

Utopia321 June 23rd, 2004 08:09 PM

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!

Timeline safe warp engine???? Don't you mean Subspace safe?

Exan June 23rd, 2004 09:17 PM

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!

I remembered something said about timeline. Well maybe the site wasn't very accurate then. Might have been subspace too. My memory has dozens of other things to remember. And I haven't watched Star Trek so much myself. Only 6th and 7th seasons of DS9 and the three seasons of Enterprise. I'm much more familiar with B5. Too bad you can't add ships with rotating sections to Starfury. Omega class destroyer would have been so cool.

Utopia321 June 23rd, 2004 09:22 PM

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!

Well in that case, if it's Subspace then you have to use Warp Nacelles like that on Voyager (Intrepid Class). Someway unknown to me the folding Nacelles don't cause damage to subspace (Subspace allows warp travel but is damaged by Dilitium waste, right Ian?). Anywho, yeah without the enhanced warp drive found on Voyager any warp factor is hazardous to Subspace, it all depends on how fast you want to go and how badly you want the future to be warpless. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

EDIT: In fact I think that warp nodes or gates or points (So on and so on) are way better than free roaming warp capable vessels. Of course it's not like the damage caused by Warp travel is enormously signifigent, most damaged Subspace blends in with unharmed subspace (like sugar in water), but if everyship in the galaxy were to go to warp at the same instant subspace as we know it would cease to exist and warp drive would only be a dream once more!!

So remember that when to super charge your asses home kiddies. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!

Thanks for the explanation. Also there has been a problem with the models you sent me. Lithunwrap won't open them and reports an error message so I'm afraid I can't add them to the game. If I can't open them in Lithunwrap, I can't do the hardpoint data and I cannot render the portrait and shield layout pictures. Also I think that Starfury can't open them either. Sorry!

If you could find models in a 3ds format it would be a great help.

Somehow Lithunwrap has hard time opening x files. I cannot open all the x files I've saved with lithunwrap most of them having several texture maps or atleast several mapping Groups.

EDIT: I hope you can find some new meshes. The three ships I want to fly are the Omega class destroyer from B5, Defiant from DS9 and White Star from B5. Currently the only model reminding Star Trek is in this state. It works but it doesn't have decent textures yet.
U.S.S Excalibur

Very nice Exan, but I don't like the registry and name, it screams bold text! Can you do anything about that? Maybe curve it a little?

Exan June 24th, 2004 08:23 PM

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!

Easily. I have the texture map also in pfd form where everything is in layers. You can remove windows, surface patterns, texts, engines etc. easily and draw new ones.

Do you have a new registry number in mind? Currently I use NCC-1973. Also the font is Times New Roman. What do you recommend? Well I have the Enterprise pilot on computer. I'll take a look from it and try to find a similar one. Curving the font is going to be easy.

I'll get back to you on that Exan right now I have an announcement to make.

Until further notice Startrek Starfury is being postponed. Anyone who uses Startrek Bridge Commander and has skills in modding head over to this site: http://Users.skynet.be/Alexis.Rombau...der/index2.htm
and contact a modder named Apollo. I want everyone interested to help him.

See what we plan to do with Starfury is already being done with BC. In 2 months modding will be done on ATP Dimensions, a awesome 3d adventure of exploration and kickass starship to starship combat. This is the mod that all Trekkies have been waiting for and I want to give Apollo as much help as possible. Who's with me?

(I apologize to all Starfury Users for this delay but if we can get this mod out faster we can start on Startrek Starfury again that much faster.)

P.S. I'm sorry guys I just love BC more than SF.

Has anyone had any luck joining the BC mod ATP Dimensions? It's been a few days and Apollo/Alexis hasn't replied to me about voice overs so I guess if everyone else was as misfortuned then i'll take ST SF off standby mode http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif .

BTW I just had an interesting idea: Voice overs in ST SF, what you think? It wouldn't be too hard to code in right??? And I'm sure anyone with a mic and Audio recorder could help out. In fact if I get good feed back on this idea I can start doing voice overs

I can try. I'm not expert on other ships. (not that I'm expert on Federation vessels either) Anyway, I have done nothing during july. I currently have only two trek ships ready (both Federation) and I'm now concentrating on The People's Mod.

Anyway, if I have time I'll give Romulan, Cardassian etc. ships a try. Try to find someone to do textures. That's far more time consuming than modelling.
