The game has started. Good luck to all. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Well, not TOO much luck, as the angels from above might frown upon anyone displaying excessive luck. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Feel free to post in here as interesting things happen in the game.

For instance, the mighty army of Caelum was content to stay at home and study in the library for the first month. The war can wait!

Be warned, inland map can get really crowded with 10 players. And with a relatively high indy setting, players will prefer to attack other players instead of indies.

This is so true. Inland has only about 150 land provs and 5 water ones. It is also wraparound and has very few choke points. With ten players on such a wide open map, this means that everyone is going to start right next to someone. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/Injured.gif

So you better dust off your scrolls and have some very good messengers going to your nearest neighbors right off the bat if you want to survive in this crowded realm! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I'm very happy this game is going very fast, considering part of the players have work to do etc.
But ...
I put my hands ahead beforetime, I have to go to Rome for work (this is a rare event indeed) next thursday 16 and I'll return the day after, friday 17 (oh oh ...). I don't know if the Last turn I can make will be thursday morning very early (about 07AM) or afternoon (about 05PM). The next turn will be probably friday at 11PM.
This means an idle time of 55-70 hours.
Could you wait for me? It is very difficult for me to find a substitute for some turns, but if you can't accept it I'll try to find one or I'll be idle.

PS: all my times are GMT+1 (central europe), so adjust times accordingly for yor zone (west coast is -9 and est coast is
-6, I think)

Thank you.

Re: Newbie Slug Fest - Mose Hansen game - OPEN

No problem changing this to 48 hours upon request. I said in the thread that I would do that, so the other players cannot legitimately complain.

Having never done this before, I am not all that certain how it works. I assume that I must make the change BEFORE you move so it will be in effect while you are away. if anyone knows for sure how this works on Mose Hansen, I would appreciate your wisdom.

What you need to do is post in here on Wednesday evening (your time) and remind me to do this. I will adjust the time about 7 PM my time. I am GMT-7, so this will be in the middle of the night in Italy.

You can make your move on Thursday and then have a minimum of 48 hours to make the next one. While you are away, I will change it back to 24 hours, unless that weekend is when Krool Death needs the extra time. In that is the case, I will leave it at 48 hours throughout the weekend.

You were right, in fact I edited my previous mail because I put in a wrong Last turn day (I never really learned well days in eng). I'll do the Last turn on Wednesday cause I'll depart after work in the late afternoon. I hope to have the time to pass from my house to do the turn. Unfortunately the idle hours are correct.

In short: When you change it the host time to 48, the next hosting will be in 48 hours.

Submitted turns should no longer be lost, though I haven't had this confirmed outside of my own testing.

Hope this helps.

The Panther September 9th, 2004 02:24 PM

Re: Newbie Slug Fest - Mose Hansen game - OPEN

OK, I think I have it.

Just to be safe, I will change the host schedule to 48 hours before moving. Then I will then do my turn and hopefully it will not be lost. Next, the current turns host normally, either by quickhost or by the 24 hours running out. The following turn will then immediately show 48 hours to the next host.

I can then do the reverse to change back to 24 hours.

Re: Newbie Slug Fest - Mose Hansen game - OPEN

Well, honestly I fault myself. I probably should have played it a bit safer. Instead, I launched an ill-advised invasion against independents and lost my prophet and starting troops in the process. Because I cannot recruit on this setting (which I have never before played) I've been pretty weak since then. So along comes Mictlan, he smells weakness, invades my two poorly defended provinces and is sieging my Last. So it's almost time to go to the grave (again). I can hardly blame Mictlan, though I always long for a long interesting life. He doesn’t sound like he’s in a bargaining mood either.

Steerpike September 14th, 2004 09:47 PM

Re: Newbie Slug Fest - Mose Hansen game - OPEN

Yeah I saw some of the action with my scouts and boy Mictlan handed it to you on a plate without much trouble for him. Mind you I have little sympathy for Ahen Empire Ermor I mean diplomatically you are just begging for your neighbours to attack you. I think this map is not suited to this empire at all. And why dont people take normal Ermor? Theyre not bad IMO,playing them in single player I had a great time and diplomatically you are not the evil one to be destroyed by all as soon as they can gang up on you.

DragonFire11 September 14th, 2004 10:00 PM

Re: Newbie Slug Fest - Mose Hansen game - OPEN

Steerpike, I have to agree. When I joined the game I wanted to be the giants but it was taken. I figured I should get some Ermor experience under my belt. Sort of a know your enemy kind of thing. Sadly, I did not bank much experience here. Also, I didn't know what I was getting into with the Ashen Empire. I was surprised to find I could not recruit! You can laugh, but this is a newbie game after all.

Re: Newbie Slug Fest - Mose Hansen game - OPEN

Tommorrow is raining at the moment. Elephants are expensive and scouts are cheap. Also im not too concerned about research yet, I think I will be able to catch up. I am surprised you didnt try them in single player though. Ermor I believe starts out relatively weak regardless If given time to build up they are very, very nasty thats why I think this map was not a good one for Ermor. In my one and only other game where I played Mictlan incidently SG Ermor started in the corner of Karans map and he really had time to build up. I got knocked into next week by Machaka but I still think Mictlan is pretty good.

So what is hotter, Arizona or the interior? In the past ten years it reached 122 in Phoenix. That, even by our standards, was stinking hot. Hitting 115 in July happens regularly.

Don't forget it is the same for everyone. I too am having problems getting the research done that I want. False horrors? Light years away! Am I am the guy who set it up that way...

Meanwhile, those races with powerful national troops (Ulm anyone?) can get things done easier than the magic-dependent nations. It seems a decent change of pace to me, almost a balancing of typical top races.

I am just glad I am not playing Mictlan, for I think it would hurt that race more than any other. Pickles, what do you think???

I'm going to be away today and the next two days. I don't know if i will able to do a turn today at about 16:00 (GMT+1). I know I will do the next turn Friday at 22:00.
I will have as temporary replacement the kind Alneyan for this time.
I'm then asking to you to put (until friday) the quickHost to 24h. I'm sorry, the game is very fast paced.
I think I'll be the next after Ermor to exit, clearly I'm too newbie and winning with my friends doesn't mean I can stand up in an international tourey. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Alneyan September 15th, 2004 10:59 AM

Re: Newbie Slug Fest - Mose Hansen game - OPEN

*Sighs* The replacing player cannot replace anything for the moment being. I seem to be back to my usual problem with Dominions via TCP/IP, and cannot log in to the game. It worked fine when I tried two days ago, but it no longer works. The symptom looks quite like the usual "cannot connect" problem with Mosehansen, except that no amount of "connect/disconnect/reconnect" works.

Anybody having the slightest clue about the why of this problem will receive my praises. A similar problem also plagues me with SEIV, and so Dominions is unlikely guilty for it.

Pickles September 15th, 2004 11:18 AM

Demise of Ermor

I regret the demise of Ermor (assuming the siege goes OK) but I was already losing dominion to him & that could not be allowed to continue plus he looked weak.

I think that the title of this game is very misleading as in my opinion Panther's 10 game newby criterion means you might not really be a newby at all. Like me & Panther.

I also think these settings are bad for newbies as the game is too intense. I really like the settings but they are not forgiving.

Pickles (Mictlan) feeling like a shark

Steerpike September 15th, 2004 11:48 AM

Re: Demise of Ermor

losing is learning, slightly harsh but you know who says losing cant be fun. I had the biggest bLast holding out against Machaka in my other multi player game. I had but one other province at the time, no troops, a mottly band of priests and about 25 blood gems. These guys all cast summon imp(not the spell orders I gave them by the way) and put a large army to the sword. I think I watched that battle four times. The next time he attacked I found out the hard way that if you want to actually use your blood slaves you have to have them on your priests and not in storage.(duh)A swift death but still good times.

Alneyan September 16th, 2004 08:54 PM

Re: Demise of Ermor

I should actually manage to play my turn later today (eight hours or so), assuming I can get Dominions to work on another computer and to actually manage the log in to the server. I do not know how much time is left until next hosting though; do I have enough time to make my turn? As you can guess, Mosehansen is down for me as well.

Sorry you are having problems. If you are indeed in France, my world clock says it's 1:20 a.m. in Paris now. The server says you have about 1440 minutes. So you should have time - if you are awake that is.

No problem! I hardly noticed any delay at all. As soon as the next turn hosts, I will change it back to 24 hours. I am afraid to do it right now because my current turn might stale.

I also recall that Krool Death was planning on being gone two weekends in September. Since we are running low on September weekends, I was wondering if this is still happening.

What would not be right:
(1) Dragonfire playing my turns in general; or
(2) Dragonfire playing my turn AND trading things between nations?

I am sure he is agreeable about not trading things, but ULM is far away from ERMOR, and so it would be very hard to do anything in conjunction.

But, I will find another substitute if the other players would prefer.
