Actually - TC and Machaka aren't thematic for Europe. So, since no one ever expects the Spanish Inquisition... Viva la Marignon!

Now if only someone will take Pythium, so Zen and I can revisit the days of my very first game, when I was smiting Ermor mightily - only to find out that _this_ particular purple banner was Pythium. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Heck, that's practically an invitation. So can I take Pythium?

Re: MP Game - European War

Mictlan - Graeme
Arco - Cohen
C'tis - Alexti
Pythium - (was Thufir) Ygorl?
Van - Truper
Ermor - Vynd
R'lyeh - Msew
Caelum Izaqyos
Marignon - Cainehill
Pangaea - Zen

I think that's all? That is 10, when/if Graeme wants to start the pretender. Do you want/need Email addresses for updates?

Ygorl October 10th, 2004 12:13 PM

Re: MP Game - European War

Just give me a little time to get a pretender designed and get the needed files downloaded (maybe not in that order).

I remember that game - or actually I remember the chuckle I got over the Pythium/Ermor mixup. And back in those days, I was almost certainly playing Van... ah the endless cycles of Dom2 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Four pretenders uploaded - I'm betting another 2 get uploaded and someone starts the game by accident. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Which Version of the mod we use? Latest (currently 1.71)?

Zen October 11th, 2004 12:41 AM

Re: MP Game - European War

I have uploaded my Pretender 1.71 and am good to go.

However there is a new Version of the Mod 1.72 up. It only really effects Vanheim (Truper) so whether or not he wants to try out the new Asynja or not is probably a factor if everyone would like to upgrade.

What are the server's IP & port?

The IP is:68.148.43.237 and the port is 5555

Since many people have already uploaded, I'll stick to 1.71.

I'd like to take a look @ zen's mod. I tried hitting the techno-mage site but got a bad link. Can someone let me know where to DL it?

Thx

The latest link (Last post in the mod thread) works for me. But you can also get the file as an attachment to that post as well. Look in the title to the post.

I'm also curious what Version of the mod we should be using. I uploaded my Pretender Last week when we were on Version 1.70.

0) which Version of the pretender mod we are using
1) are we using the spell mod?
2) does there exist an item mod yet? I have been afk from irc so I am out of hte loop.

No as I'm not aware of any spell mod, and no because it doesn't exist yet.

zeneuropefinal.map but this doesn't matter to the players at all.

www.techno-mage.com/~zen/concepts1.zip ^^

Re: MP Game - European War

Msew, that is a beta-build http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif I don't think it would cripple the game to play with it, but I do think having to have everyone go through and remake their pretenders with both Mods uploaded without having a chance to really look at the readme (which is done but I haven't packaged it) isn't a good plan.

I say 1.71!

Zeneuropefinal can be found at www.techno-mage.com/~zen/zeneuropefinal.zip

There are no crazy quirks, just plains turned into water and redoing the #nostart.

Urgh I've to reupload so on, mine is with 1.72 ... even if I believe it's == to 1.71 I fear there will be problems in if I keep this one. Or not?

Cainehill October 12th, 2004 08:29 PM

Re: MP Game - European War

Reuploaded with 1.71 just to make sure.

(BTW, Graeme - might be nice if you edit the first post to have the IP and port, make it easy to find.)

I have reuploaded using 1.71.

I'll be starting the game up tonight, so if there are any Last minute changes people want to their pretenders, you now have about four hours to get them in.

Graeme Dice October 14th, 2004 12:05 AM

Re: MP Game - European War

And we're off. The first turn will host in 48 hours, or as soon as everyone finishes.

I restarted the game with a slightly different .map file, since Palestine was connected to Atlantic Ocean.

Hmm. Server doesn't seem to be there. Anyone else get in?

68.148.43.237 port 5555 right?

hrmm seems I made a machaka race instead of r'lyeh and uploaded it for this game!

so no sea power in here. Which should alleviate people's issues of FEARING FOR THE RIGHTFUL RULER OF THE LAND!!!!

So the SPIDER LORDS shall have to claim that spot! ahahaha

I'll try to remember to post here should I be the Last one to go in a turn. But personally speaking I won't get all huffy if other people don't want to do that.

Turn 2 has started.

Was there a restart? I had done my turn yesterday, but just got a stale turn, and am now in a different starting position. *sigh*

This rather sucks. No research, no recruitment, etc.

There was the one restart, which I suppose caused the problem.

Has anyone else had any problems with the first turn? I'd like Cainehill to have at least one game run on my server that didn't get screwed up in the first turn.

Cainehill October 14th, 2004 11:20 PM

Re: MP Game - European War

So much for Marignon having the perfect starting position - the Papal Estates.

Feh. I take it you did something like deleting the homeland file and restarted the game, but didn't wipe the whole directory? So it saw the .2h files and processed the turn, before throwing some of them out because they didn't match the game.

Truper October 14th, 2004 11:54 PM

Nah, Marignon should be started in Avignon or Spain.

I did wipe the whole directory, which is why I'm confused here. Perhaps it didn't download the new .trn file because it had the same turn number as your old one?

Cainehill October 15th, 2004 12:14 AM

Re: MP Game - European War

Looking at the time stamps on our Messages here, I suspect that I got connected in a short time window (about 1/2 hour) where I got the original .trn file, and uploaded my .2h based on the original .trn file.

Didn't notice the post saying the game had been restarted with a different .map file, which meant that I needed to wipe _my_ directory and do things over, so in a sense it's my own fault, albeit I was looking for new Messages posted after mine.

This is a good reason for renaming the game, and thus the game directory, in cases like this where you're restarting the game and not just the server. Otherwise you need to make sure everyone knows that they need to delete the directory on their machine to avoid problems.

Re: MP Game - European War

Apparently I as well, was given the "HAND OF WRATH" starting stale. The great void has said that to even the playing field, the wild groves of Pangaea must wait a season to begin their ultimately victorious conquest.

I'm okay with mine, though I don't know if anyone else is.

alexti October 15th, 2004 01:14 AM

Re: MP Game - European War

Right, keeping the same name causes the stale problem. I'm pretty sure I have posted a warning about that yesterday, right after Graeme has announced restart. But I don't see my post now. Conspiracy! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Unless I've posted it to some other thread (or to some other board) by mistake http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

It's not incredibly common, but I've had it happen to me two or three times. Can I just say - I hope I'm your neighbor? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

It seems to me that if several people (myself not among them) had stale turns through no fault of their own, then we should probably restart.

Vynd October 16th, 2004 09:10 PM

Re: MP Game - European War

I take it then that none of the affected players feel the need to restart? Fine by me. But it sure is gonna be extra embarassing when they kick our cans...

Cainehill October 16th, 2004 11:45 PM

Re: MP Game - European War

Eh - restarting the game would take too long what with everyone having to reupload pretenders before it could start again, so ... *shrug*

Besides, this reminds me of the time I had 17 consecutive stale turns at the start of the game, and _still_ came back, turned things around, and ruled the world. Heh. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
