Players will not have access to the map file, they will have to set forth and explore with their pretenders.

However, the map file is available on the mod page! I'm confused... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

No, you probably don't have it! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif A dom2-map consists of a graphics file (.tga) and mapfile (.map). The .tga is required for playing, while the .map is only required to set up a new game. The downloadable shepherdsmap.zip contains only a faked .map file, which does not hold any unusal information about the scenario (just neighborship relations), but allows to play the map without any features of the scenario.

Illwinter will setup a game for you using the proper .map file, so this is nothing to worry about. The reason is, that players cannot simply look into the mapfile to see how the scenario is scripted (e.g. which province has which sites, defending commanders having precious items, preste-castles, pre-set villains for the central AI, etc.). So this is done to keep some surprises for everyone!

Hmm, but is the .tga file the actual map? I thought it was going to be "shrouded" or is the "shrouding" they're talking about have to do with the missing .map file? thx

It seems nobody can log into SOC1, and this has been the case for maybe 20 hours now. Did it crash on your end?

Hi all!

I've been preoccupied the last week or so. Sorry for the inconvenience. I have set up the third game now, but as Turin has moved to Huntsmans group we will need a new player in the third game. So as soon as anyone is ready for Rudra there is a game going.

Hmm... From next Saturday I'll be out of town for over a week. Will the 3rd game start before 4th April? Because if it will, then I think it is best I make room for somebody who can be present during the first crucial turns http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Great. Game three is full then. We're set to go.

Good luck everyone.

OK, game is full, but jarkko is away for some days it seems. I'll start the game on quick host and no time limit and set the time limit at 48 h after the 4th of April. Is this OK with everyone?

Hi,

Game 3 is currently watiting on the first turn for Yvelina (Vanheim). I heard a rumor that she was taking some time off Dominions for school-related reasons. This was a while after the sign-ups for this game so perhaps she has forgotten about it. Does anyone know for sure if she's around and still interested? Otherwise, we should find someone to fill her position and (finally) get this game really started.

OK!

Let me know if you find a replacement or if you come in contact with her.

I'd be interested in filling in for her - I'll drop her a note.

When I logged in this morning to check the status, the timer for game 3 had started. Do we have a Vanheim yet (Cainehill?)

Kristoffer O April 9th, 2005 06:11 AM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

Not sure. I forgot about the Vanheim problem and started the timer. 5th of April IIRC. Shall I turn it off again? Unless I hear anything today from Yvelina or Cainehill I'll send Cainehill the password and startup info.

Cainehill April 9th, 2005 12:06 PM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

Haven't heard a reply from Yvelina, but interested.

Kristoffer O April 10th, 2005 11:13 AM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

OK

Cainehill is now in charge of vanheim and the game is rebooted to allow him some time to play. I see that Caelum and Abysia also hasn't played their turns.

Patch v1.16

Will the ongoing Shepherd Games be updated and restarted with v2.16? When?

(I do know that the versions are compatible, but I dislike the uncertainties of mixing versions (validity of battle replays?) and it would also be good to know whether retreats and fishy amulets will work or not in advance...)

Kristoffer O April 13th, 2005 03:49 AM

Re: Patch v1.16

Hmm, sorry, I've probably been using 2.16 for a while without me realizing it. I wonder if that has anything to do with the problems connecting.

Non of my group encountered connection problems. If the version caused connection problems, then maybe not all of the shepherd games run on 2.16 then?

There really should be a way for the client to check the server's version! This way one could easily avoid all those version problems, which arise especially when playing with people from all over the world...

Shepherds 3

As I didn't find the thread for game 3, I post here. Sorry for the inconvenience.

After tomorrow (Saturday 16th of April) I'll be on reservist training for a week. Would it be impossible to set the game to no quick host until 23rd, so that I miss max one turn? Please? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Kristoffer O April 15th, 2005 01:34 PM

Re: Shepherds 3

OK! Unless everyone disagrees I'll remove the timer.

Cainehill April 21st, 2005 10:07 PM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

I'm wondering if there's some reason Caelum hasn't taken their turn yet, given that they're not the one who's away for the week....

If Caelum took their turn now, everyone else could do the next turn, and then Jarkko could make a double turn when he returns. I mean - turn 3, it'd only take 2 minutes max to do the turn and help get things moving again.

Jarkko April 28th, 2005 12:51 PM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

Well, I have been here for quite a while already...

Cainehill April 28th, 2005 09:08 PM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

And I sent a message to Caelum's player 7 days ago or so; no response. Feh.

Set him to AI, or kill the game?

Jurri April 29th, 2005 05:30 PM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

Oh, yeah, game 1 ended recently (turn ~50ish)... Thanks Kristoffer, it was rather fun. Although I'm not sure if the format works; the AI is somewhat disappointing to play against even with the lead it's given, as it only encourages a passive-aggressive stance against it. (That is to say, fool it into not attacking and hope it harasses someone else instead!) That said, the map is beautiful and the prose pretty entertaining. And although the big B was almost just a random factor, we had a good game, IMO, between us Shepherds trying to be the first to take the castle. So, thanks again, it was most certainly a worthwhile experiment!

Cainehill April 30th, 2005 10:32 AM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

Given how long we've been waiting on Caelum since Jurri's return, I'm wondering what's up.

Is the timer going to be set again? Caelum set to AI? The game killed and another set of players recruited, given the odds that half the players have forgotten about it in the 2 weeks since the last turn?

josh_f May 1st, 2005 12:29 PM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

Why don't we do a roll call of who is still interested, if we are only missing Caelum we can probable find sub easily as it is only the second turn. If we are missing more people we can put up a new sign up and restart the game.
I will start
josh_f, Atlantis here.

Cainehill May 1st, 2005 08:52 PM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

Fourth turn, not second. I'd be okay with continuing, or with a new signup (since I'd missed the first turn or two myself when I stepped in for someone else).

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

I guess this means Game 3 is dead? I'd be willing to play...

Sedna May 2nd, 2005 06:00 PM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

I'm still in as Pangaea. I don't care whether we restart or continue as is.

Cainehill May 3rd, 2005 11:34 AM

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

Seems it's going to have to be a restart - I'd prefer either C'tis or Atlantis since I haven't played either in ages, if their original players have dropped out or otherwise choose a different race.

Otherwise I'll stick with Vanheim if I have to - suspect a negative 2 magic scale makes this _the_ most unpopular of the seven, especially with the difficult magic research being the norm.

Re: Shepherds of Creation signup

I am currently Atlantis, and I am afraid I don't have any interest in switching.

A problem viewing battles

I am C'Tis in the "Huntsman" shepards game. Whenever I try to view a battle replay involving a non-C'Tis pretender the game crashes with "myloadmalloc: can't open ./mods/./shepards/nereus1.tga" (or whichever pretender is involved)

When I installed the mod, it did not make a mods/shepards directory. I made one manually and copied all the shepards files there, but I still get the crash.

Turin May 12th, 2005 04:35 AM

Re: A problem viewing battles

on my machine the mod creates a subdirectory called ".xvpics" in the shepherds directory.

There is a nereus1.tga among a few other files in there, so try if it works once you create the folder and move the files there.
The file in the .xvpics directory is much smaller(3.58kb) than the nereus1.tga in the shepherds directory(48 kb). So maybe you have the wrong one in the shepherds directory.

Hope it works so you can witness the awesomeness that my pretender is http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif .

RonD May 12th, 2005 07:52 AM

Re: A problem viewing battles

Thanks Turin - that was the problem. Whatever I used ti unzip did not create the .xvpics directory (and the XP GUI would not let me create a directory with a leading . I had to open a command prompt to make it)

Your pretender is, indeed, one badass mofo.
