Re: New Mosehansen Game, Paradise Lost

Well, the next turn has hosted, and we've all played except Pythium now (which was very quick, surprisingly). Maybe we'll get in one more turn this evening, who knows.

No battles here, I'm off in my own world (or so it seems). My astrologers and mystics are contemplating the cosmos and thinking up grand schemes. My warriors are milling around, waiting for a direction. My god is looking at the surrounding indies in disgust, deciding which next to conquer. Decisions decisions.

No enemies on the horizon at all. Ulm? What's an Ulm? Haven't seen one of those in my neck of the woods. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Yep, it sure looks like it.

And the game is still going like crazy! Another new turn!

Re: New Mosehansen Game, Paradise Lost

Next turn.

If anyone think the game's hosting should be slowed down, just yell.

Re: New Mosehansen Game, Paradise Lost

Given how many requests there've been on other game threads, I'm going to set things to 72 or 96 hour after the turn cycles today. If all the players are still active and taking their turns, great, but we won't have people staling just because they forgot they'd be out of town or whatnot.

Cainehill July 1st, 2005 03:12 PM

Re: New Mosehansen Game, Paradise Lost

Oh, flooding joy. Let's everyone kill Ermor, and Illwinter as well for including a spell like Burden of Time.

Shmonk July 1st, 2005 03:14 PM

Re: New Mosehansen Game, Paradise Lost

Wasn't me.

Hmm... always heard about this spell, but never been in a game with it. Can't wait to see what happens now.

Cainehill July 1st, 2005 03:30 PM

Re: New Mosehansen Game, Paradise Lost

Your armies start picking up afflictions as though diseased. Your commanders and mages start getting afflictions, sometimes even dying right away. And you don't get a useful report that would allow you to see who get the afflictions and whatnot, so every turn you basically need to check every single one of your mages and commanders to make sure they're not diseased or otherwise about to die.

And of course if they die while carrying magic items, the magic items are lost. It's a wonderful spell that causes some players to simply go AI when it's cast because of the sheer aggravation factor the spell produces.

Dominion doesn't help against it. There's nothing you can do to protect your mages or troops - if they're not undead or lifeless, they start dropping like carrion flies.

Shmonk July 1st, 2005 04:49 PM

Re: New Mosehansen Game, Paradise Lost

So the only able option is to dispel it, that still works I hope.

Cainehill July 1st, 2005 05:23 PM

Re: New Mosehansen Game, Paradise Lost

Sure - if anyone has boatloads of astral gems to spend on it. Killing the caster (presuming it's not an immortal caster) would get rid of it, as will (sometimes) killing off the nation.

Shmonk July 1st, 2005 06:06 PM

Re: New Mosehansen Game, Paradise Lost

Why boatloads? I've never used Dispel... since it looks like it cost at least 70 gems to cast, does that mean one would need at least 70 to cancel it (even though the Dispel spell only costs 30 to cast)?

Cainehill July 1st, 2005 07:45 PM

Re: New Mosehansen Game, Paradise Lost

Well - look at Ermor's gem income, the highest in the game. Lots of that are going to be death gems, making it unlikely that he cast it with the minimum amount (which I thought was 80).

GriffinOfBuerrig July 2nd, 2005 06:07 AM

Re: New Mosehansen Game, Paradise Lost

It was 70.

:-)

GriffinOfBuerrig July 2nd, 2005 01:06 PM

Next turn: Paradise Lost

Next turn is up, sorry i took so long http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

But while Burden of time, time is relativ.

I get a message every turn, how many units has been "strucked"

Have anyone an idea how much the percantance chance is for every unit to get afflictons?

Shmonk July 3rd, 2005 01:14 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Next turn is up.

Cainehill July 4th, 2005 12:17 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

And another turn.

Shmonk July 4th, 2005 08:56 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

So if a global was cast for the minimum amount for that spell + X additional gems, to cancel it with Dispel, one just needs at least X gems above the minimum cost, right?

So even though Burden of time costs 70, and let's say 10 extra was used for 80, to cancel it one wouldn't need 50 extra pearls to cancel it (since Dispel only costs 30), right? You would only need 40 (30+X). It doesn't really make it clear in the manual.

And if there are multiple globals up, you can't choose which one to Dispel, it just randomly picks one, right?

Cainehill July 5th, 2005 12:25 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Pretty sure you get asked which spell you want to target - it's only when one is being over-ridden by a new global that one is picked at random.

And while I have a cruddy astral income, I could put 10 astral in towards dispelling it, if someone's going to try. Hopefully others will do the same.

Cainehill July 5th, 2005 11:32 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Back to 48 hour hosting.

Shmonk July 5th, 2005 09:49 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

I will be attempting it next turn (needed to research the darn spell first, will have it after this current turn). Any donations of pearls are appreciated, and necessary to ensure dispel works.

Cainehill July 5th, 2005 09:59 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Sending what I can - 15 pearls, as I've a pitiful astral income.

Catquiet July 6th, 2005 12:49 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

I'll send 15 pearls as well.

GriffinOfBuerrig July 6th, 2005 07:17 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

I sent a letter bomb!

Shmonk July 6th, 2005 11:45 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Ok, but are there astral pearls in it (because I might try and disarm it if there are).

Otherwise, Return To Sender.

Shmonk July 6th, 2005 12:01 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Does anybody have an answer for my dispel question - would I need to use at least as many gems as the global I want to cancel, or only that many more gems (X gems) over the Dispel spell's cost of 30 gems that was probably used to cast the global?

BillPaxton July 6th, 2005 02:04 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

I'd send some astral gems, but im astral broke

GriffinOfBuerrig July 6th, 2005 02:21 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Hey Bill, how do you do http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I understand dispell that way: I make burden of time for 70 Gems and put 10 Gems futher in it you will have to dispell it for 30 Astral + 10 + x Gems, so you would need at least 41 Astral gems total!

@Vanheim: gogogo!

http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...t=1#Post364772

For Dispel details, i did not know until i read that!

Shmonk July 7th, 2005 10:29 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Hmm... now I wonder if the extra 100 gems I put into the spell was enough. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

GriffinOfBuerrig July 7th, 2005 10:48 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif No Idea :-p

Shmonk July 7th, 2005 09:44 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Well, first attempt was a no-go in Dispelling the evil enchantment. I put in 21 extra gems, must not have been enough. I received some more astral from someone else, I will save up some more myself and attempt again in another turn.

GriffinOfBuerrig July 8th, 2005 07:27 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Tata, i am the evil incarnate.

Can it be that Vanheim idled last turn?

Cainehill July 10th, 2005 02:35 PM

Believe so, and looks like they might be going to again.

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Looking for a sub for a week, any takers?

There was a death in the family (my grandmother died), and I will be out of town for a week. I'm Arco, and doing okay, currently trying to Dispel that darn Burden of Time spell.

If somebody is willing to sub a few turns, that would be great. Asking for a hold of 5 days is too much, and that's okay. So if no sub, I'd rather stale a few turns then go AI, if that's okay.

GriffinOfBuerrig July 10th, 2005 08:44 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Ok,

so i would say we change the name of the threat so that we find a sub within 24 hours(or so)?

Cainehill July 10th, 2005 09:27 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Can't find a sub unless the guy contacts us - he goes AI if he continues to stale.

Shmonk July 10th, 2005 09:42 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Cainehill, you're talking about Vanheim that is currently staling, correct? Not me looking for a sub.

Cainehill July 10th, 2005 09:48 PM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Right - I've asked Quantum to see if he can sub for you in some of your games.

quantum_mechani July 11th, 2005 01:08 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

I am willing to take over this and Shmonk's other games for a while.

Shmonk July 11th, 2005 01:38 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Thanks Quantum, I sent a PM with the info for this and other games. And thanks Cainehill for helping find a sub.

GriffinOfBuerrig July 11th, 2005 08:01 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

*mpf*

I hate waiting for the next turn so long, is there any chance to make a sub for someone who will not come online again?

Cainehill July 11th, 2005 09:46 AM

Re: Next turn: Paradise Lost

Sure, I could give the prospective subsititute the master password, meaning that player could go through everyone's turns. In other words, no : after this stale, I'll set him to AI when it's waiting on him again.

GriffinOfBuerrig July 11th, 2005 09:49 AM
