Re: calling all players
playing with endoperez one and only time I was allowed
any more questions? fine 2v2 teams are t1 1.me 2.shovah t2 1.endo 2.folket map:north west middle earth? 45% rich 5indy strength norm magical |
Re: calling all players
I guess that means I'm out then. You guys have fun.
|
Re: calling all players
hey CuriousCat
since endoperez is hosting maybe you should ask him if you could take his place but he still hosts? |
Re: calling all players
This is a TCP/IP game right?
|
Re: calling all players
The Middle Earth map has 119 provinces. The province neighbour arrows ('8' in keyboard) can barely be seen, but the north/south mountain ridge can be crossed in two points, and there is an opening in the south. Interesting map, although it might be too simple for two teams.
If CuriousCat wants to play, I can change to neutral, or even leave myself out completely, if other participants aren't offended. Should there be AI players? I already wrote the whole message, and just thought of them, so I haven't considered how they might affect things. What are your nations? Naresh will be playing Man, but I don't remember if any other nations have been mentioned. When would you all prefer to be able to start? Would few (4-10) turns on both Saturday and Sunday work with you? That would upstart the game nicely, and with 10+ turns in the game, things would get more interesting. What pace would you like the game to have? I would prefer 3 or 4 turns a week, which isn't as slow as it sounds. You get the turn, do some basic movements/recruiting, then ponder and think things through for a day, and then send your turn in about a day after your received it. It will be a TCP/IP game if I can open a port in our hardware firewall. Or possibly use a port that defaults to open... I should research this. Should I set the starting provinces, or let Fate decide? Would it be too boring to have the two allies both in east/west, with only having to worry about one direction? Or should the starting provinces be decided by nation, that is, Man or Marignon in Gondor, Ermor in Mordor, Caelum near some mountains, Pangaea or Ulm near Shire, etc. |
Re: calling all players
119 provinces are to many for 4-5 players. 80 provs is max.
|
Re: calling all players
id say that 119 players is more of a 6 player thing but ive nevr had a multiplayer b4 so i dunno
|
Re: calling all players
1. change the starting provinces that would make it more fun and exiting as you could PROBABLY tell where you opponent is and there could be like a big fight over the pelennor fields OR a scould going form the shire to barad dur with a bane venom charm!
shovah is playing ulm... but that is all I know could it be possible to PBEM I do not know TCP/IP endo (if I may call you this) if you want to play then you can if you really dont then dont simple eh? |
Re: calling all players
High_Priest_Naresh
Playing by TCP/IP is very simple, you can even make a shortcut for it, connecting to the server directly when taking your turn. If we could find one more player we could do 3v3 on middle earth. |
Re: calling all players
who we team up with me and naresh, ( 3 vrs 3 sounds fun )
|
Re: calling all players
yeah fine by me! just got to get my dad to sort it out!
curious cat would you like to be with me and shovah? then endoperez and folket all you have to do is find another player and we can begin please people write who you are here and endo, chooose who you are now... |
Re: calling all players
TCP/IP means that after the address/port are given, the game automatically connects and gets the turn. It is possible to send the file in e-mail to those who can't connect because of, e.g., aggressive firewall, and let the others use TCP/IP.
Is 3vs3 fine with Naresh? It would be about 20 provinces/player. With six players, which places would be working starting sites? East/West might not work too well because everyone would have good defending positions. Maybe something like this: Code:

...M.1... .1.M..... ...M....2 .1....MM. .MM...M.. .2....2..

Naresh, could you edit the title of the original post's title to ' Calling all players - 1 player needed for 3vs3 ', and edit the original post to include the latest information: Map: North West Middle Earth, 119 provinces 6 players on two teams: 3 vs 3 players: Naresh (Man) and Shovah (Ulm) in the same team, Endoperez and Folket playing but still undecided about teams/nations, CuriousCat probably playing. 1 place open, any non-taken nation is available but Folket and CuriousCat can choose over any new player if the choice happens to be the same. Game will be TCP/IP if hardware firewall manual is understandable. The initial 10+ turns will be played in a day or two, after that the rate of turns slows down to 3-4 per week. |
Re: calling all players
When's the initial blitz planned? I'll join if it works out with my schedule; I'm away this weekend unfortunately.
My nation prefs are C'tis, Marignon...then whatever. |
Re: calling all players
I think Naresh's team could use an Astral nation, to find more Astral sites and gems and so be more capable of dispelling bad globals.
I'm GMT+2 and Naresh probably GMT+0, and I think Reverend would be GMT -5. If Folket, shovah and CuriousCat are between these time zones, we might be able to play the "blitz". If not, it probably has to be a weekend so that everyone can play at the same time. EDIT: I think Reverend Z has at least some multiplayer experience, so he could go to Naresh's team. Both C'tis and Marignon can at least search for Astral sites, so that would fit, too. That would leave me, Folket and CuriousCat to "my" team. Does anyone have objections against this? |
Re: calling all players
none what so ever I'll change the post now...
he he... (this is why endoperez is hosting) |
Re: calling all players
Ok, I guess I'm back in. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
I'm out of town this weekend though. |
Re: calling all players
Okay. You are in "my" team, with me and Folket in. He's playing Arcoscephale, I'm considering Jotunheim but can take something else too.
Naresh's team has Man and Ulm, and Reverend Z prefers C'tis and Marignon. EDIT: of course, as two players are out next weekend we can't start then. Any suggestions? |
Re: calling all players
team 1
1.High priest Naresh Man 2.Shovah Ulm 3.Reverend Z either C'tis or Margnon team2 1.Endoperez considering Jotunheim 2.Folket Arcscophale 3.Curious Cat not chosen |
Re: calling all players
Update the first post too. Looks fine, though. Anyone have any suggestions for the starting blitz? This weekend won't do, would next week's weekend be fine? If someone can't play even then, it might be better to just start playing few turns a week from the beginning, to get this started.
EDIT: it seems Naresh is out the next weekend. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif So, should we just start playing then? I'd need you to send me your pretenders when you are ready, and I'd still like to hear comments on e.g. starting provinces. No one commented on my ASCII map. The pretenders can now be sent to janne.joensuu@oppivat.net; it could be automated by I haven't yet learned how to do it. Add a password at pretender creation, just something that will prevent accidental opening of wrong turn. |
Re: calling all players
I have learned something new from the workings of networks, but firewall still lies untouched. However, I checked the starting provinces. Would these be fine by you (press # and enter province number to center to a province).
Team 1: 94, 47, 75 Team 2: 18, 10, 37 I'll throw dice to see which player gets which starting province and which team which set after all players are ready. All provinces neighbour (and one is) a mountain or forest province, and I think all have either wastes or farmlands next to them, so each player should have a reasonable start regardless of their strategy (units/mages/pretender). |
Re: calling all players
I'm fine with any starting locations, but I have not downloaded the map yet. Do you know where I may get it?
|
Re: calling all players
yeah fine but I need to remake my pretender... (forgot password)
sorry ever one! |
Re: calling all players
To confirm--no mods for this, correct?
|
Re: calling all players
correct except from version 2.16
|
Re: calling all players
Anyone want to post who have yet to send thier pretenders?
|
Re: calling all players
I have received pretenders from Reverend Zombie and Folket, and of course have my own. Naresh has sent one pretender file, but it seems that is mising a password. So could shovah, CuriousCat and Naresh send me their pretenders? The needed file is in \newlords\ folder under your main Dominions II folder, and is named nation.2h, where nation is abysia, caelum, arcos, jotun etc. So shovah should send me ulm.2h and CuriousCat his caelum.2h from their \Dominions II\newlords folders.

Re: calling all players
Sorry about that monsterpost, but my browser just hanged on it three times. It seems it tried to open the "your post was sent succesfully" instead of trying to send the post in the first place...
|
Re: calling all players
did you get my pretender??
|
Re: calling all players
Yes, I did.
|
Re: calling all players
kk, im just a bit worried as it hasnt been tested as extensively as i would have liked
|
Re: calling all players
Well, if you send a newer version in before we start, you can use that. We still haven't decided on the start date, but it seems that as the next weekend won't do either (Naresh is away from computer) we'll have to start doing it at a slower rate than I would like.
|
Re: calling all players
ok, thanks. i will experiment a bit with my current god and see if i want any changes (see if he fits in with my current strategy)
|
Re: calling all players
sorry I havent sent my pretender lately or even replied to anything,
pretender will come someting around: 3pm-7pm BST |
Re: calling all players
sent my Pretender
wicked description on the games behalf! love it! hurry up everyone can we start? |
Re: calling all players
Still waiting for CuriousCat's pretender. Although I haven't been able to check my mail here at school, so it might have come in today.
EDIT: Also, the firewall problem is yet to be resolved. I'll probably call to a helpline, the manual is in english and really poor IMO. |
Re: calling all players
I sent my pretender last night. Let me know if something went wrong and I'll send it again.
|
Re: calling all players
I got it. Now, if only Shovah has gotten his pretender updated, we could start. That brings up the next question...
As it is, we can just with a blitz if everyone can get time together (next Friday-Sunday won't work, so that's not very propable), or we can start doing turns the old way. I'll try to make my computer to work as a TCP/IP host, but it'll take some trial and error. I'll try to do it as soon as possible, but if it just doesn't go right and I'll have to experiment it might take until Monday. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif |
Re: calling all players
just leave my pretender as is ( i'll live with my mistakes)
|
Re: calling all players
Just try to get it up as soon as possible, and when you get it working we might try to plan a blitz.
|
Re: calling all players
for TCP/IP
what do we do??? |
Re: calling all players
Okay. I found a Finnish manual online. I'm not sure how I'm going to test how it works, as I don't know any local Dominions players, but I think I have found out what settings and rules I have to change.
|
Re: calling all players
we ready to start???
|
Re: calling all players
We have the pretenders, and we could start the game through PBEM any time. Hopefully I'll get the TCP/IP working in a couple of days, the biggest problem is testing it from outside our LAN (that is, would it work for others).

Re: calling all players
TCP/IP works!
I went to visit a friend today, and took my USB 512 Mb memory stick with me. That thing is all-around useful, and can run Dominions. I tested it, and it worked. I could connect to the test game I had my computer hosting. We can start. Almost. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif Is everyone comfortable with the settings? I think we agreed on not having Rich, as that would go overboard with 6 players on a map where 6 is minimum amount. Independents 6, renaming allowed, others at default. Picture of the settings is attached for easy viewing. And we will also need a master password, just in case someone forgets theirs. Hopefully everyone still remembers their password. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Did we ever decide on a name? And when shall we start? I can leave my computer on from 5.00 to 20.00 GMT at least on weekdays, but as I can't sleep with my computer humming it will be off the other time. This also means the hosting won't happen at midnight, but probably at about 18.00 GMT. This means that you have until 18.00 GMT to edit your turns. The hosting days will probably be Monday, Wednesday and Friday when we get longer into the game. Of course, if everyone has played their turn, my computer will host the new turn and, if you were the last one, you will see your next turn just as soon as my computer finishes. If you don't have any earlier MP experience, READ THIS: My computer will 'host' when all players have played their turns. Checking your turn and leaving will be counted as "playing one's turn"! To see your turn without the turn registering as "played" press Esc and choose "exit without saving". This means that your orders of nothing will NOT register as having played your turn! If you just want to see your turn and not play it, choose Esc - Exit without saving! |
All times are GMT -4. The time now is 02:26 PM. |
