well, we did clarify that shedu's and monoliths were titans, right? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Re: Game on!

Vampire Queens are basically very very small Titans, right?

Tom_Scudder February 15th, 2006 12:24 AM

Re: Titan\'s Task - open

Wow, victory points seem very clustered. I count about five in the river valley system northwest of the bigger sea.

archaeolept February 15th, 2006 12:26 AM

Re: Titan\'s Task - open

uh oh. clustering is bad

It also looks like there are a number of independent VPs (for instance the lone waste #67). this should probably lead to the victory conditions being altered a bit... but I admit i find it very hard to count the total number of vps. If it seems too crowded in that big river, we could easily roll the dice again...

Re: Game on!

How do people feel about the clustering? I would be willing to re-start if they think its too much? The key question is: will it be any better the next time around? And unfortunately I did not save off your pretenders this time around so it would require a re-upload.

archaeolept February 15th, 2006 05:46 PM

Re: Game on!

hey ironhawk is it true that there are indy VP's, because its really hard to count them all - but at least a couple of them don't seem to be paired w/ another close by...

No opinion on restart - my position is middling.

Cainehill February 15th, 2006 05:51 PM

Re: Game on!

My guess is that a number of those are player's home provinces, which means that they'll be fighting it out pretty quick.

Not sure that it'll be any better next time - Dom2's code is pretty horrible about how it places VPs and capitals.

I'm okay with continuing (and no, I'm not in that clustered area http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ), or with restarting. (If we do restart, you should probably save the pretenders and restart until it seems decent.)

Cainehill February 15th, 2006 05:53 PM

Re: Game on!

With 20 VPs (stated in the threads first post), there'd kinda have to be indy VPs. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

archaeolept February 15th, 2006 05:55 PM

Re: Game on!

except according to ironhawk, each capital should have another VP right close by it... there are a few vps that don't seem to be in any pair... either they're far from "their" capital, in which case up for grabs, or else they are indy map-generated VP's...

Wish February 15th, 2006 06:42 PM

Re: Game on!

so really, you can win without taking out a single enemy capital

since i havnt gotten a reply in the shovahs subs thread, if someone reading this wants to sub for me(pythium) in this game over the weekend id be forever grateful.

give me a pm or post here.

/edit found a sub.

Ironhawk February 16th, 2006 03:51 AM

Re: Game on!

There are 10 capitals (with VPs) and 10 indy VPs. The thought was that each nation would get one indy in addition to thier cap. It looks like it may work out that some get two and others get none. This is not good, but also not terrible - it just means wars will be more furious.

Apologies for my slow turning. I am used to the Artifacts Game which is suuuuuuuuuuper slow. I will pay more attention from now on.

Tom_Scudder February 16th, 2006 04:29 AM

Re: Game on!

I don't mind the vps. Everyone is just going to have to know where they need to get to now. (Or if they want, they can go expand in the opposite direction and hope they build up enough strength to roll in the mid-game).

Re: Game on!

Try playing Ulm with the production bug. (It doesn't show up in single-player).

archaeolept February 16th, 2006 12:01 PM

Re: Game on!

well I am - but it hasn't shown up in Artifacts. However, so far each turn i've been left w/ unbuilt units in this game...

Tom_Scudder February 16th, 2006 12:10 PM

Re: Game on!

Yeah, I'm just saying it's double-plus frustrating as Ulm... "You can't spend more than 100 gold on your units. And aha! You don't even get all of your units! But look! At least Urgek, Beast Brother is selling his services..."

Morkilus February 16th, 2006 01:28 PM

Re: Game on!

I bet you've taken Sloth. I think QM's nailed why this has happened with this balance mod; it's likely that you are shown more resources than you actually have, so you aren't getting "cheated". The only problem is when you set aside gold that isn't used for the turn. I have Sloth in one of my games and the bug happens every turn.

Sorry about your lab, can't help you there http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Tom_Scudder February 16th, 2006 01:49 PM

Re: Game on!

Yeah, I'm playing Ulm, and I've taken Sloth.

Not.

Cainehill February 16th, 2006 02:03 PM

Re: Game on!

Heh. Ulm is generally not a nation you want to take sloth with - almost all your decent troops are resource-intensive, so even without the production bug sloth directly translates into you not being able to recruit as many troops.

Cainehill February 16th, 2006 02:05 PM

Re: Game on!

Ah, I just love the way Dom2 places nations (some nations only 1 or 2 provinces between their capitals, while some wind up 7 or 8 away from their nearest neighbor). Looks like this is going to be a bloody one. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Tom_Scudder February 16th, 2006 02:08 PM

Re: Game on!

Hell, even Ulm's cruddy troops are pretty resource-intensive.

have i mentioned lately how much i hate ulm? its infantry are the worst in the game...

Tom_Scudder February 16th, 2006 03:36 PM

Re: Game on!

Infantry? What is this infantry thing you speak of? I don't think I've built a single Ulmish infantryman in the last half-dozen games (mostly single-player) I've played.

The Black Knights of Ulm are never defeated!

Ironhawk February 16th, 2006 04:49 PM

Re: Game on!

Yeah we are packed in like rats in this map. Mathematically we should have 15provs/player. But its looking like I will be lucky to get 6-8. I already have one border!

archaeolept February 16th, 2006 04:53 PM

Re: Game on!

heh, well the black knights are actually good units, though a bit overpriced - but even they are only really good in the early game against indies. A bit of elemental magic, and all that gold just swirls down the drain... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

The Celestial Empire of Tien Chi requests allies in his war against Marignon. Despite my overtures for requests for peace, he has throw his 108 strong army complete with flaming arrows and xbows at my provinces. This army DOES include his pretender.

I have just received the following mail from Tom Scudder:

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>Argh. Laptop has been downgraded from "fried" to "would you like me to set up
your internal hard disk as an external drive for your new computer?" It's
going to take another week or so to get the new machine - you'd better just
find permanent replacements for me (or AI me) in my games.</pre><hr />

I didn't want to sub permanently, so if anybody wants to take over a game position with lots of potential, please let me know (PM) and I will send you the password.

Jurri February 22nd, 2006 01:50 PM

Re: New Turn

Too bad! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Well, it's an interesting position whoever should grab the bait, from what I see.

Looks like there was a battle, he lost a province, you gained one, you lost about a third or a quarter of what he lost.

so basically you reamed him.
