I am just wondering...why isn't there more previews about Doms 3.? October 2. is very close now. In fact there are many strategy gaming oriented websites, I am sure that those would post a preview about Doms 3.

Re: Press

I think it's definitely incumbent on us as Dominions fans to do what we can to spread the word ourselves. There are lots of little things one can do -- for Dominions II, I submitted reviews to two of my favorite sites (rpg.net and gamefaqs.com - both of which are still hosting them), blogged about the game in my livejournal, sent out a few e-mails to friends, and mentioned the game in the various web forums and communities I haunt where I thought it was appropriate to suggest to other potential players. I'd even suggest e-mailing various outlets and asking them to review Dominions 3 -- odds are I'll ask the Penny Arcade guys to take a look at it as it's definitely Tycho's sort of bag and that site has crazy influence among a certain subset of gamers.

In any case, I'm sure Shrapnel's doing what they can to get it out there and, to be honest, most games of Dominions' size are lucky to get a review at release, to say nothing of a preview. I thought it was amazing that Gamespot offered a review of Dominions II -- and it was that review which sent me over here a few years ago in the first place. So, here's to doing our part in the meantime.

I must apologize - I'm behind in posting updates in the preview thread. I need to add to the list the most recent issues of Cyberstrategie, PC4War, and PC Pelaaja. These are all print magazines, the first two French, the third Finnish.

The preview code did not include the manual (as it was not complete at the time), so only reviewers who were already familiar with the series were able to effectively examine the beta of Dom 3.

We have a list of game sites and magazines anxious to get their hands on the final code with the manual, so you should see reviews aplenty http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif And thank you to all who are talking up the game on other forums. That's a big part of getting the word out. Many gamers don't trust reviews and like to hear feedback from fellow gamers.

Whoa, a Finnish magazine with a preview?!

Whoa! A Finnish magazine with a preview!

A whole new squad of fantasy fans just waiting to be draft... I mean, introduced to the multiplayer! Muahahaha! An army of tacticians ready to take over the worlds!

Don't count on that Endo. I already read one finnish preview and it was rather negative. It also hinted that some of the promised features weren't in the game.

Oh I see, good to hear these. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
Anette, we have a nice little Doms 2. community in the city. I used to play multi games with these lads. Most of them are already preordered Doms 3. that is about 15 people so far. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Hah. Dom2 articles was what kept me buying PC4War regularly - a good proportion of the team there were real Dom2 fans (some of which are still regulars on this forum). Most of them are now writing Cyberstratege. Small world...

Re: Press

I often use a site called tothegame.com which is a pretty comprehensive list of all PC and console games, to track the development and other progress of various games that I am interested in.

Unfortunately it has nothing on Dominions - 2 or 3!

I have emailed them, to point out that they are missing something and included the relevant link sites that they like to have.

However maybe something official wouldn't hurt.

For the record, Pelit magazine made previews of Dominions I and II and published a strategy compilation of Dom I, so they will propably review Dom 3. From what I remember they are very professional and are the largest gaming mag in finland...

Addres information and such is there.

I think it was my email to them, but whatever ToTheGame now have a page on Dom 3, and they even have today as the release date so they really have been paying attention.

Cyberstratege, our French mag, will publish a whooooping 5 (or maybe 6!) page review of Dom3 in the next issue, to be released on Oct 23. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Needless to say the review is rather good (how could it be otherwise ?), even if we would have liked some more new features in the combat orders/spell scripting..

I won't give away the score yet as the mag isn't even printed, but sure post it as soon as it'll hit the shops ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hungarian gaming mags just don't give a **** about good strategy games sadly. They only care about high end FPS games mainly, and rarely they do some strategy game reviews/previews also, but only if the graphics is decent, and if it is an RTS. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Sure, and it's the same in the rest of the world ...
All of the world ? No, in fact a small village still resists against the FPS invader, etc ... Got the point/found the reference ? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Cyberstratege is now maybe the only "real" mag (I mean not fanzine, not electronic etc..)that is entirely devoted to comp strategy games. Sadly there's no Hungarian, Finnish or Swedish version... but maybe there'll be an English one soon(er or later) ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Be careful with your world domination plans, or you will end up with another Watling Street on your hands... or Alesia, if you insist on sticking to that particular reference.

Yes, I would also expect them to review Dom 3... they are supposed to love niche, preferrably turn-based strategy games, right? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

I suppose that Bruce Geryk cannot review the game for computer games magazine. That's a shame because it was his review that made me buy Dom2.
