Ah nice job Nerfix!! Sadly I had no time on the weekend to edit the wiki. Of course we will update it when the game is out, also I think that I had some ideas what to add before the game is out. I will figure out that what was I thinking about, because I forgot about it on the weekend. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/stupid.gif |
Re: exact founding/publishing date
Ah, it's ok. I'm not putting a bit of stuff to the nations.

Re: exact founding/publishing date
added link to Sun Zu's "The art of war" in the "things to know" -> "things to read" section.

Re: exact founding/publishing date
I've checked out when we were registered as a company here in Sweden. It would seem we have our fifth birthday tomorrow !!!
Illwinter Game Design was registered as a company 2001-09-27 Thanks for making me check it out http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: exact founding/publishing date
Oooh, this calls for a part. Happy 5th birthday!
What do you think of the Wiki itself? |
Re: exact founding/publishing date
It's looking great! Very ambitious.
|
Re: exact founding/publishing date
Well, with these projects one needs a bit of ambition don't you agree? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
|
Re: Thanks for all the help
This wiki is very nice! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
I edited the Paths and Scales section to add (useful IMHO) informations about the path and dominion strength "cumulative costs" in design points. I hope it's not too "nitpicky" on such a page ? |
Re: Thanks for all the help
I have yet to check it, but I don't think it will be. The more the better.
EDIt: Checked it. It's all good, very useful information. |

Ah I see. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif
Anyways I am updating the wiki now. I've just added Treasury/Income/Upkeep with informations. Also I am adding unit attributes right now. |
Re: exact founding/publishing date

About unit attributes, Sunray (kind of unofficial Dom beta, occasional poster here..) is currently designing a complete spreadsheet showing all recruitable units attributes (update of the existing one he made for Dom2). Some nations have already been done, it'll be better to coordinate efforts... Send me a pm so I'll fwd the file and keep you in touch with Sunray http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: exact founding/publishing date
I think he ment that he is making a generic list of what the unit attributes like Attack, Defence, Protection etc. do.

R'lyeh: links to wikipedia and wikisource entrys about Lovecraft (and his books) added.
I could use some help with this {wikipedia template} function. (*If* it works, it makes a pretty white box and a wikipedia symbol). |
wikipedia entry started
Finally started the wikipedia entry for dominions3 while waiting for the game to appear in my mailbox.

Re: wikipedia entry started
Good good. =)

Re: wikipedia entry started
I took a whack at doing a nation summary. Take a gander at Early Era Ulm:
http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Early_E...nigma_of_Steel Fairly sparse, but I submit it as a potential standard. Be sure to create the category back-links when creating new pages... I failed to do so for the first page, and there is no easy way to go back and fix that. |
Re: wikipedia entry started
Hehe, I had to change the DomII reference to "Dominions II" since that is the proper title.
=$= |
Re: wikipedia entry started
@Unwise
Your best strategic advice in the whole section is the bit at the end about how to deal with your SO. You must have centuries of experience, master. By the way, happy 69th post. strategywiki problems
Hello Unwise,
i admired your work at the strategywiki about Ulm - Early Era. Unfortunatly, the page was not a sub-page of the Dominions3 - page and not linked to it. One of the strategywiki-admins has deleted the page seconds before i was able to move it to the correct position: http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Dominio..._Awakening/Ulm I contacted one admin and hope he will be able to resurrect your site. (I liked especially the part about the SO). I know this is very unfortunate, but please don't stop contributing to the wikis. You maybe want to consider working first on www.wikipedia.org before diving into strategywiki. Wikipedia has a better help system, more explained guidelines as well as an 24/7 online-chat-help system. Wikipedia entry about dom3 that could use more information (specs of the manual, system requirements, SHORT description of the game) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dom3 Please make Strategywiki entrys about Dom3-stuff as sub-entrys of http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Dominions3:_The_Awakening for example, to link from the strategywiki entry about dominions3 to a not-yet-existing sub-page about "Dwarven Hammer" make an link like: [[/Dwarven_Hammer/]] sorry again for the trouble. -Horst |
Re: strategywiki problems
strategywiki problem solved, DrBob moved the site to a more correct location: http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Dominio...nigma_of_Steel

Re: strategywiki problems
Why is the table of contents on a new page now? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif
Imho it was better on the starting page. |
Re: strategywiki problems
Hi DominionsFan, i moved it to the "correct" position (see also the discussion page) to make the Show/Hide link on the topright corner work correctly. There existed two different Table of contents before (the "official" one with the blue show/hide link and the "false" one on the front page). I tryed to sync those two tables of Content but it was a ugly work. In my Opinion it is better to concentrate on one table of content, the "official" one (supported by the blue show/hide link and also the blue top menu). In this way, every user is able to hide/display the Table of Content from the wiki front page at will. Before, it always eated up a lot of space with redunant information.
Doing so will also help to make strategywiki more streamlined and professional looking. Please try syncing the two different tables yourself and you will see what i mean. |

Re: strategywiki problems
About a third of the way through my effort I realized that I had not properly made the pages sub-pages of the previous sections, and as I noted in my previous post, there did not seem to be any way to easily fix it without deleting and re-creating everything.
Thanks for your efforts in keeping the stuff, I now know how to do it properly. |
Re: strategywiki problems
Hm. Occurs to me that it shouldn't be too detailed -- we want it to be a good description of the game, something for a prospective buyer or for somebody looking for discussion/details, but not a replacement for the manual.

Re: strategywiki problems
I agree, the Wiki should be detailed, just with detail that is not in the manual. The Wiki can explain things that are just glossed over in the manual - it can have various play strategies and reason swhy the game is worth playing.
As well as a general friendly intro to the game GM12 |
Re: strategywiki problems
DominionsFan --
Mostly to avoid making it too easy for those who obtain unauthorized copies of the game, that's all. We might also want spoiler warnings at some point. *shrug* |

Hm....but wait those people can also read the various PDF files and sites like Sunray's. |
Re: strategywiki problems
I think if people are going through the trouble of getting an illegal copy and obtaining a CD key through nefarious means, then denying easy access to a site that gives them tips on how to play Pangaea is not going to help or hinder their life of crime significantly.
I think the purpose of the Wiki is to provide an easily searchable resource for generic questions that are not to be readily found in the manual: What is the best magic item path to take a mage from Earth-2 to Earth-5? What are the national heroes for late-era Ermor? What maps has Jason Lutes done? What is a "Blitz Game"? What Super Combattant chassis have people had success with? |
Re: strategywiki problems
*shrug* True enough.
Although 'best' is going to start fights. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: strategywiki problems
Hahaha, yeah, but I think that mentioning several different aproaches and their advantages and disadvantages is good. =)

Nations are set up in the Wiki
So now we need some content! We have decent strategy discussions on Golden Age Arco and Kailasa. Who wants to take on another? We have, uh, like fifty left to go. Alternative strategies are welcome as well, I imagine. Here's the link to the nations page so you can navigate. Note that some are subsumed under others, i.e., you'll find Helheim under Vanheim sorta like in the official manual.

Re: Nations are set up in the Wiki
I think that we should get more than numbers in the wiki, for instance I have found that Warriors of the Five Elements (Tien'Chi EA) are very effective as early game anti mages. Basically what I am trying to say is we should get little snipits of info that detail how a unit functions in a practical situation. I know that made no sense, but I tried
|
Re: Nations are set up in the Wiki
No, you make perfect sense! This is exactly what I think we should have in the nation section; stuff like recruit lists and castle types are covered in Sunray's excel file and the manual. How to properly utilize Machaka's blessed troops needs to go in the wiki. It is a "strategy wiki" after all, not a substitute for the manual.
