Re: Late Era - OPEN for players

Indeed. I made it to the game. There was a good chance I will, but I was not sure, and I hate when people quit in the very first turn, so I thought this way is the fair way.
P.s.: The server starting never gets old, almost in every game someone does it. At first it was very annoying, now I kind of wait for it.

Re: Late Era - OPEN for players

Open letter to Jazzepi, god of T'ien Ch'i:
Greetings my friend,
I beg your pardon, but it seems that the massages on the forum are not red or understood by you, so I took the freedom to communicate with you thought this, rather formal way.
My concern is that you took too provinces that are very close to my capital. There is only 1 province separating them from my capital. Since we have a non agression pact I can't attack you, but your acts are somewhat hostile, as if you would only wait for the end of the before mentioned pact to invade my heartland. If we can't reach to some kind of mutually beneficial solution I'm terribly afraid that I need to cancel our pact, and this would somewhat affect our peaceful relations. I don't wish to mention the horrific possibility of a full scale war.
Thanks a lot for your kind understanding,
Your friend,
DreamSlayer, God of Man

Kojusoki March 19th, 2007 02:12 PM

Re: Late Era - OPEN for players

Well, I understand that if you have choosen this kind of "communication channel" you expect that others will say something. In my opinion, which can be wrong of course, advancing and taking INDEPENDENT provinces is not a hostile action. No matter where those INDEPENDENT provinces are located. Unless of course, your pact was saying something about those INDEPENDENT provinces. Of course you may dislike his movments, but as far as I understand the situation, he makes everything according to the rules.

Also, as far as we used to play, Nations with NAPs CAN fight with each other, but ONly on the INDEPENDET's lands... Saying simply - atack those INDEPENDENT provinces also - there can be only one:)

Look - with Pangea, Arco has a very clear situation - we have war http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

ONE MORE THING TO THOSE WHO DONT READ EMAILS:

SERVER HAS BEEN RELOCATED, SO PLEASE, MAKE YOUR MOVES ONCE AGAIN FOR THIS TURN!!!!

Jazzepi March 19th, 2007 02:21 PM

Re: Late Era - OPEN for players

*Out of Character*

I'm fairly sure you aren't allowed to cancel pacts for any reason, WSzaboPeter. Besides of course the other person violating it in same way. The NAP we setup didn't stipulate anything about invading neutral territories close to your capital.

You may be unhappy with Tein'chi's expansion, but that's part of the problem with making pacts! I made one with the lizard race in my newbie PBEM game and he's basically over-running the world right now. Even 3vs1 we might still lose.

Jazzepi

WSzaboPeter March 19th, 2007 02:22 PM

Re: Late Era - OPEN for players

Kojusoki, that's wise. I will attack and take only those 2 offending territories and then if T'ien Ch'i wishes peace I will grant him peace.

Kojusoki March 19th, 2007 02:26 PM

Re: Late Era - OPEN for players

If they ARE INDEPENDENT - sure.
If something is not "not-allowed", it means that it is allowed.

Methel March 19th, 2007 02:46 PM

Re: Late Era - OPEN for players

Hmm, I think the diplomacy rules are a bit constraining, how about we use sheps rules of diplomacy instead, makes for a more interesting game imho.

Also I would considert taking a province bordering my capital a hostile move, about as hostile as when you attacked me koju http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

WSzaboPeter March 19th, 2007 02:52 PM

Re: Late Era - OPEN for players

Well I agreed a NON AGGRESSION pact. If I consider this as an aggression, then you violated the pact, since it was not specified what can be considered aggression.

Hey, hey. This isn't fair to me. I signed a non-aggression pact. I didn't invade *any* territories that weren't neutral. I would like to ask Kojusoki to step in and explain that WSzaboPeter isn't allowed to invade those two territories just because he thinks they're too close.

He built a fortress on my border, does that mean I can invade it because *I* think that's an aggressive move on his part?

If WSzaboPeter is allowed to flaunt the rules of the game, and attack my territories even though we have a year long NAP, you'll have to find a replacement for me because I think that's completely unfair.

Non aggression means that you don't invade each other territories. That's the only meaning to it. Otherwise I should be able to invade your fortress because it's right on my border. That's fairly aggressive, building up an army directly on an allies' border.

Think your kinda shooting your own cause in the foot here jazzepi http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

How about you strike a fair bargain, he gets the province bordering his capital and you get some compensation, either in territory or otherwise.

Jazzepi March 19th, 2007 05:08 PM

Re: Late Era - OPEN for players

My point is that "I get to arbitrarily decide what is aggressive" is ridiculous, and not the meaning of a NAP (Non-Aggression Pact). If he gets to just randomly decide that my expansion into neutral territory nearby his capital (lets make this clear, I don't even know where his capital is, I can't even see it on my map even with the conquered provinces). Then I should be able to be equally random/arbitrary in what I decide to be aggressive.

If he doesn't like what happened after he signed a pact, that's just *too bad*. This is a competitive game. I had to lose troops, and spend time/effort expanding into those territories. It's unfortunate for him that they happened to be nearby (not even adjacent) to his capital, which I can't see on the minimap. Honestly, there is plenty of territory west of me I *could* have expanded into just as easily. I simply picked east because if was a convenience to shore up my territory along a mountain range.

Now he suddenly wants a free ride into those territories just because of the fact that they're two spaces away from his capital? How many proviences are two spaces away from *my* capital? I counted, just to make my point: 15 provinces surround my capital 2 movements out. I think it's ludicrous to purport that somehow during a NAP I can lay claim to all of those territories without specifically stating it.

I would also like for Kojusoki to push back the turn hosting another 24 hours, or at least until this gets decided. I'm 99% positive if the turn hosts I'm going to come back to find the territory I had invaded.

I'm really sorry, but you would like to STOP other players game simply to solve something like a territory dispute? That is way unfair to other players.

I did not gave any attack orders this turn, but I think next turn I will set myself to AI. My forces are superior, and the only thing that keeps me from crushing you is the fact that I always obey the rules of the games, and for some reason this game had a rule that
someone can hide between a non agression pact and then invade... We both know that you are planning an offensive, maybe building a fort near my capital in this very minute, and I can't do a thing. That's why I will quit this game if this will not be solved.

Methel March 19th, 2007 05:34 PM

Re: Late Era - OPEN for players

Hmm, do any of those actually allow direct movement into your capital? If not then I'm switching sides to jazzepi's.

WSzaboPeter March 19th, 2007 05:37 PM

Re: Late Era - OPEN for players

Okay, let's stop this discussion before it is converted to a flame. I told all I wanted to tell, and waiting for an answer. That's all.

Jazzepi, one more question: When does this non aggression pact thing ends? I would like to know the exact turn number please.
