Re: IP Address Change
I expected the hydras to be a much bigger threat, but I guess thats what happens when you don't playtest!
The ideal anti-Van research for Sauromatia would have involved getting Quagmire, Foul Air, Shadowblast, and Leeching Darkness, but I was a fool to test the Van defenses before Poison Cloud (with Thistle Maces) and Raise Dead. As it stands, I could have holed up in the castle for a good ten turns by jamming the entrance with skeletons while my poisons ate away at you on the outside, but thats not fun for either player so I gambled on a last ditch attempt to toss you off my capital. I also wish I had checked my board mail. I didn't even see your offers of peace. Doh! Oh well, thats why I entered a noob game! Well played! -K |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
It says Lanka has played his turn on the link but when you connect to the server it shows him as not played.
|
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
I thought I could just use the timestamps and if the .2h files were newer than the .trn, then I could report the player as having played. Sorry the web page is not accurate.
But Lanka has not finished the turn according to the server: <font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre> b3, Connections 0, No timer (quick host) Arc+ Er+ Mav+ Mi+ Va+ La- </pre><hr /> And the .2h file is newer: <font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre> ls -lt b3 total 1640 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 21942 Apr 7 00:52 early_mictlan.2h -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 10723 Apr 7 00:44 early_arcoscephale.2h -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15217 Apr 6 19:48 early_vanheim.2h -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 19175 Apr 6 19:40 early_lanka.2h -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 28858 Apr 6 14:11 early_marverni.2h -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 32940 Apr 6 13:20 early_ermor.2h -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 102574 Apr 6 10:14 early_arcoscephale.trn -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 131476 Apr 6 10:14 early_ermor.trn -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 139434 Apr 6 10:14 early_lanka.trn -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 142970 Apr 6 10:14 early_marverni.trn -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 139329 Apr 6 10:14 early_mictlan.trn -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 143916 Apr 6 10:14 early_vanheim.trn </pre><hr /> I'm going to disable quickhost on the server for the next 8 hours at least, since I don't want Lanka to connect with a partially completed turn, and lose the rest of his moves. Edit - done. <font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre> b3, Connections 0, No timer Arc+ Er+ Mav+ Mi+ Va+ La- </pre><hr /> I'll turn quickhost back on when La- turns to La+. |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
I've just played it, but the server seems to not take it to the next turn...

The Marverni nation hereby notifies Lanka ex post facto that it considers our ceasefire agreement to have expired, and we reassert our claims on the sacred Marverni lands of Gol Amrod. Several monkeys on the grounds outside the castle surrendered, and were arrested under Marverni Law 876. ART 59 (c). These monkeys have confessed to: * Invasion of Gol Amrod * Murder of the Marverni Pretender (Note 1) * Conspiracy to commit Extortion * Invasion of Gol Amrod again * Hunting for Virgins in Gol Amrod * Conspiracy to commit Extortion again * The use of forbidden Blood Magic * Molestation of the Marverni Secretary to the Prophet * Conspiracy to launch a war of aggression * Being a Monkey on Marverni Fortress Grounds (Note 1) He got better. -- Secretary to the Minister of Propoganda, Marverni |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Such non-sense deserves punishment !!! Do you want everyone to know about the behavior of your secretary ? We can tell everyone what happened in so said sacred land !!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Scouts have returned with these rumours of monkey/forest-man copulations involving boar bladders and demon buttocks. We are embarrassed for both nations, but forgive them their desecrations.
Refocus and be at ease, my friends. Remember that. Refocus and be at ease. - Archbishop of the Shroud |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Marverni demands evidence! We deny any improper behavior by our former Secretary to the Prophet.
|
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Vanheim can attest to the truth of Malverni's allegations. One of one scouts returned with an eyewitness account.
One of the more lucid sections: "Monkeys everywhere...demons...virgins...diabolical monkeys... the horror...the horror..." Our support of in this matter is in no way related to Lanka's unprovoked attack on our peaceful lands, or our simultaneous perfectly justified strike against him. All the monkeys must die!!!! Sveigder, Prophet of Shaiar And the toads! I haven't even mentioned the toads!! Falling from the sky!! |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Now hallucinations !
Toads DO NOT fall from the sky ! They don't have wings you know ?!! You should ask to your local nature mage... And since Marverny still deny everything we'll write here the full story about his secretary : You know Lanka is a land of demon. And us demons know how to have fun. We make some music, we dance a lot and when the feast is about to end we sacrifice a virgin. We do not intend harm to anyone but that's the way of things you know ! So at the end of the ceremony in Gol Amrod we were seeking a virgin and we politely ask the Marverni's secretary if she was one. Here is her answer : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v7...isecretary.jpg BTW Lanka can see the word spread fast about his great feast ! There are about 400 uninvited (weak) guest at the gate of Gol Amrod. Come in ! Come in ! Everyone is welcomed ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Marverni would like to point out that several anomalies exist in the purported image of our secretary. Notice the blue fabric covering the portion of her physical anatomy above the waist. Clearly this is not an image of one of the world-renowned Marverni Bare-Chested Secretaries. We have reason to believe evil photoshop magic was used to alter an existing image of a true Secretary of Marverni.
Concerning Gol Amrod, be warned that we are hiring the fearsome fighting force of Urgek's Beast Brothers to reinforce our lines. Once he has joined our forces, we will be invicible! Lanka will never break our siege! -- Secretary to the Minister of Truth, Marverni Nation PS Could Lanka please consider having its Demons refrain from consuming all of the edibles in Lanka Land. It's not like they really need to eat, and Rock found his recent meal of Monkeys to be a tad lean. We would appreciate Lanka fattening them up a bit. |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
A crack team of Marverni researchers is attempting to determine what caused a rain of toads in the capital this month. They have not reached any definite conclusions yet, but did managed to locate a surveillance image taken at the time of the event:

Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
The Archbishop has consulted with the Augurors, and quite clearly, we must apologize.
We had no idea that Muppets were involved. Which clearly implies that we must cancel our date with the Secretary, while researching anti-monkeycraft flame pillars and Spandex melting. Before it's too late. - Shroud Congress |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
heheh, I'm not toast or anything (yet) but would like to understand what took place with my commanders in province #22.
A retreating scout had nowhere to go and should have croaked. And every single one of my commanders went into an adjacent province I had control of beforehand - their troops remained in the province (22), which was not under attack or anything else other than the scout discovery. And I'm as positive as one can be that they were under the command of the commanders in question - hardly anything in garrison. I was in the last turn of fortification building and so on. Also, a temple wasn't built that I paid for. If possible, I'd like to verify this with the previous turn files, vfb, if they are available, please check them out and find out whether that sort of command was sent by me. Let me know. As it completely screws up a turn and a half of funding and can't figure out how it took place. Hopefully I was drunk or something, but. Uh. I'm pretty sure something is goofy. This is the first hardcore bug I've experienced other than initial scale bugs right off the bat. (fun fight there to the West though Mictlan! I'm hoping that someday those Jaguars stay in the malls and petting zoos where they belong! *sigh*) |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
1 Attachment(s)
Sorry, I don't know how to analyze the turn files. And I don't keep backups of the turns in games that I run, since I'm in the games. I zipped up the current turn just in case there's anything someone (who is more technically competent than I am) can do with it. It's attached.

Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Damn ! We confess, your marverni scientists caught us in action !!!
|
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Not only that, we have solved the mystery of the photoshopped Secretary! In truth, it is an "alluring red headed Manushya Rakshasi". One of these beasts attempted to seduce a Marverni commander this month.
Marvervi greatly regrets that its Wind Mage foolishly followed scripting orders and cast Air Shield instead of immediately blasting the demon with a Lightning Bolt. We would appreciate a bit more original thinking in the ranks! |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
No no no ! Please assume the behavior of your secretary ! Our seductress got some lessons to learn from her...
|
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Due to recent events, the Marverni nation has ended up with more Hot Delicious Steaming Monkey Demon Pie (tm) than we will be able to consume this month. Since it does not keep well, we invite the other nations of Aran to come join Marverni and have some yummy pie with us.
-- Secretary to the Head Chef, Marverni Nation. PS No monkeys allowed, unless you are in a pie. |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Yeah good battle Ermor, im sure we will have some more. Your magic and archers are potent. I would have lost big time if those jaguar fiends didnt bother your archers that first round.
|
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
By the chinny-chin-chin, the valiant forces of Ermor hope to last another season against the onslaught of heretical blood worshippers and their violent were-men.
We shall continue to staunch the flow of their sanguine intentions as best we are able, knowing that Mictlan's temples shall fall, if not to us, than to the strangely obscured large humans that have nobly refrained from aggressing into our hallowed lands as they continue to grow their host to an immense size (the Augurors love bad puns for some reason, that's why we keep them locked up with their reflective pools and bowling balls of scrying). The blood tribe's aggression remains folly. The Shroud looks to the 2007 Lanka Secretary calendar for sustenance and hope, as well as inquiring as to whether Marveni delivers, as the monkey pie supplies would raise faltering morale. (was a fun one indeed Tequilich! Sooo close *gulp*) |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Cynaphe is mine Muahahahah ! I'm not quite dead !
|
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
The nation of Marverni would like Lanka to know that it did not like the pesky Rakshasi which jumped out of that Trojan Monkey Pie. We would appreciate a refund.
-- Secretary to the Treasurer, Marverni Purchasing Department (ooc Edit: If you got a kick out of Cynaphe, what happened in your castle will really crack you up!) |

Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
I think the elephants were more the Hellbind Hearts. They actually turned to your side, not just routed. May actually have caused less damage than routing, since they were attacked and killed which I don't think happens with routing tramplers.
Very surprising battle. I thought it would be a rout, but it was close, and went the other way. (My scout was sitting up on your walls with a bowl of popcorn, enjoying the show.) |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Marverni hereby notifies the nations of Aran that it will no longer be retaining the services of a certain unreliable mercenary named Hannibal.
Charged with the task of clearing a path though the enemy's gate, his task force panicked and trampled some of Marverni's finest and fittest noble warriors. Enemy magics may have been part of the reason, but it is not a valid excuse! -- Marverni Ministry of Security and Subcontracting PS On a completely unrelated note, Marverni artisans have recently crafted some beautiful ivory trinkets we would gladly exchange for catapults, trebuchets, or a low mileage BFG 9000. |

Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Yeah, no doubt! Vanheim just conquered my entire province collection in one turn. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Congrats... I've never seen that many province loss notices in one turn before.
/shudder |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
I haven't seen the actual turn yet, just the stats page, but it does look like that went as well as I'd hoped.
It's not quite as impressive as it looks, though. Arcosephale still has both castles and most of his armies. He had no PD or troops in most of his provinces. I took 3-4 of those with scouts and others with Call of the Winds. Now can I hold any of it? |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
The Soothsayers of Marverni have consulted the entrails of a badger and determined that the nation of Vanheim has grown powerful beyond reason, and must be stopped at any cost. It is probably already too late.
Woe that we did not heed the warnings of the heroes of the Sauromatian Resistance earlier! Despair that we feasted on the brains of the Lankan monkeys who only sought peace with us! Marverni is such a nation of noobs! Vanheim, know now that Marverni can no longer remain in alliance with your nation. Also be warned that our pact of non-aggression has been terminated, and in three moons we shall march to your borders and engage in battle. Or maybe we will march to our borders now, then engage in battle with you in three moons. We are sure your spies will figure it out, in any case. -- Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Relations, Marverni |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Our moon priests advise us that we must also terminate our non-aggression pact with Vanheim. So be warned Vanheim in three months we shall be at war. We can only hope our God will awaken soon and lead us to victory!
|
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
The Shroud Congress has no reason to conflict with the large men as of yet, and will remain focused upon recovering our lands and freeing our people from the yoke of the blood worshipping Mictlan hordes.
The inability of the apostate were-men to see reason, and return these lands, shall spell their doom. May their next age be a nobler one. With hope, we burn a pyre in the central Colosseum - for peace and weal for all citizens of Aran, be they ignorant savages that are unaware of the testaments that Pontificus brings through our Augur Elders or otherwise. Our memories are long. Righteousness and rectitude shall be ours, down to the last Leve if it must come to that. - Archbishop of the Shroud |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
The Shroud Congress has failed to learn from the sad tale of woe that is the story of the Marverni nation. An early conflict over one small province escalated into a vicious war, with the result that both Lanka and Marverni are severely weakened.
Marverni rejected peace with Lanka, as our leaders feared our peoples would become angry and vote them out of office, were we to surrender the disputed province. People of Ermor, rise up in a glorious revolution, and depose your shroudy congress who persists in squabbling with Mictlan! Cast off your present rulers, and join together as an autonomous collective, an anarco-sydicalist commune. Look to your North, where Arco is ravaged, for that is your fate if you do not make peace with Mictlan now. Accept our wisdom, for we were once unwise, and now we are all doomed if you do not join us against the Vanheim. -- Secretary to the Minister of Subversion, Marverni Edit: Our battle with Lanka is done, and we can turn our eyes to the east. We have executed several of our mages for refusing orders to cast Magic Duel in the Battle of Lanka. |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
The great war has begun.
The world must be prepared for Shaiar's return. We knew that the other powers would turn on us when we attacked Arcosephale so there was no choice but to strike as hard and fast as possible, in hopes of being able to deal with them before having to defend ourselves. Malverni, we regret your decision to break our alliance. It was a good alliance and benefited both of us. Do not regret the deaths of the demonic monkeys. We would have been glad to aid you further against them, but they fell to fast and only one of us could seige their capital. We look forward to meeting you on the battlefield. Mictlan, our Vanheres have long wished to test themselves against your jaguars. The battles will be glorious. Ermor, we salute your honor in continuing our fight against the blood-worshippers who have oppressed your people. Hakon, Prophet of Shaiar OOC: Thrawn, I feel guilty about trashing you that brutally, but I really felt I had little choice. Wherever I attacked, I think the others would have struck as soon as I was occupied. You I could take out quick, since you had left yourself wide open, leaving me with only a three front war. Next game, I bet you build provincial defense, though http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif This game isn't over by any means. I just watched a brutal battle between Ermor and Mictlan. I don't know if I could have beaten Mictlan's army. And he lost, badly. |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Marverni are an honorable people, but we are also absolutely terrible at calculating dates, as we have not yet invented The Calendar or even Arithmetic yet.
What is the exact season when Marverni's hordes would be discharged from their treaties and obligations, and eligible to receive orders to advance into the land of Vanhiem on the next turn? Of course, since we have spent the last several turns sneaking around trying to build an alliance against the Vanheim, we would hold no grudge against them were they to attack us immediately. -- Secretary to the Minister of Oath Keeping, Marverni PS Your news of the continuing conflict between Ermor and Mictlan is most distressing, and we are sick to our stomachs. Oh, hold on -- it's just indigestion from eating too many Monkey Pies. |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
I attacked Arco in Early Fall of Year 3, turn 30. You and Mictlan informed me of your intentions during turn 31. I would say that means you can attack on turn 34, Winter of year 3.
|
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
ooc, thanks! But does that mean I give orders to attack in turn 33 (early winter), and on turn 34 my armies attack, or do I give the orders to attack on turn 34? Apologies for the noobishness, and I think it doesn't really matter all that much in this game because it will be a massacre, but it's good for me to understand how these things work, if only for future games.
|
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
I see it as Orders on turn 34 and armies attack on turn 34. You see the results along with the chance to give orders for turn 35. That's probably just semantics and it makes less sense the more I think about it.
I didn't really think this through until it actually came up and I may not be strictly impartial here, so feel free to argue. Here's my rationale: 3 turn warning means three turns between the warning and attack. Three sets of orders given. In this case the warning was given on turn 31, we've all given orders for 31 and 32, giving 33 to position armies and on 34 we're all free to attack. I hope that made sense. Is this hard to think about, or have I just not had enough caffeine yet? |
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
Cool! I was thinking about it the wrong way. Now that I think of events occurring on the turn orders are given, it's much clearer. See you in the winter, unless you see me first http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.
|
Re: Newb Network EA Aran (Full)
I'm not quite dead !!!
doh ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/Injured.gif I'm wrong it seems I'm actually dead. No more monkeys no more toads, fortunately there is a stone tablet which was a part of a strange blood fountain... Nice game guys. Vanheim you got the few gems I had left. |
Quickhost is Off
Thanks for playing, Eressil3! I'm sure Marverni is most utterly screwed now that our army is toast after several poorly planned invasions of your territory and seductions by monkey-demon-women, and we will soon be crushed by Vanheim.
I connected to see the results from last turn, and did not do an 'End Turn', but I see a '+' beside Marverni. I don't have time to finish my turn now, so I've turned quickhost off to avoid leaving my army remnants scattered all over Aran. I'll turn quickhost back on in about 8 hours. |
Re: Quickhost is Off
OOC: HAHA, Vanheim. No worries. In a way, it was cool to see pretty much all my territories fall at once. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
I will DEFINITELY do PD next time, when there are cloaked armies around. Live and learn, right? Enjoyed the game. Hope to see you guys in another one... |
Quickhost is back On
Okay, thanks for playing, Thrawn!
Though you look alive to me still http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif. One province left, right? On another topic, I've completed my move, so I turned quickhost back on. Looks like Mictlan and Vanheim are still pending anyway. Update: Does the Shroud Congress of Ermor not see that they have one last chance to rise up and strike together against the Vanheim threat? If the Augurs would listen to the news from travelers, they would hear of the horrendous struggles in the East and North. Vanheim already controls half the world, and their false Prentender has only just awoken! Gather your armies and attack, while it is still wobbly-headed from oversleeping! The Soothsayers of Marverni predict that if Ermor does not take this chance while they have it, then the Ermor empire will be doomed, fall into decline, and its future will be a wasteland of the undead. This we have seen, in the readings of the entrails! Ermor must march on Vanheim now! |
Re: Quickhost is back On
Sorry to be holding up the game.
I got in late last night and just didn't have time to go through it. I should be able to do at least one tonight, but maybe not tomorrow. After that I should have time. I know there's no timer, but I thought I'd let people know, so no one thought I'd dropped off the face of the earth. Turns are starting to take awhile. Some thinking time, too. If we were on a timer, I'd probably be asking for 48 hours around now anyway. |
