31... far too old for my part. I would gladly give up flat, car, job for 10/12 years back...
Well, I can't wish for that, will complain about it to Kristoffer http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |

I'm 30. I can now legitimately use the term "whipper-snapper" when talking about younger people.

This year I joined the (apparently majority in the forum) 30 somethings. Kid number two due on October and gray hairs sprouting on my chiny chin chin, aw crap I'm a grownup!

Re: Never ask a lady her age
I am older than most, 47, but I am pretty fit. Still hit the gym 4 times a week. An attorney by profession, though my amount of spare time has increased significantly since Katrina.
In all honesty, age is a relative thing. If you keep yourself fit, not much changes from age 18 to 47. Yeah, you lose some hair, some white hairs creep in, and all of those bones you broke playing sports in college etc start to ache. But if you eat correctly, lift weights for muscle retention, do aerobic exercise, and throw in some yoga to maintain flexibility, you can still be stronger, in better shape, and more flexible than 90 percent of the 18-24 year olds. Of course that is because 90 percent of 18-24 year olds consume fast food, chips, soft drinks, and spend too much time watching tv, movies, talking on their cell phones, text messaging, as well as computer related activities. So do not fear getting old, fear getting out of shape. An excerpt from Jack Lalanne's verified achievements: # 1974 (age 60): For the second time, Jack swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman's Wharf. Again, he was handcuffed, but this time he was also shackled and towed a 1,000-pound boat. # 1975 (age 61): Repeating his performance 21 years earlier, Jack again swam the entire length of the Golden Gate Bridge, underwater and handcuffed, but this time he was shackled and towed a 1,000-pound boat. # 1976 (age 62): To commemorate the "Spirit of '76", United States Bicentennial, Jack swam one mile in Long Beach Harbor. He was handcuffed and shackled, and he towed 13 boats (representing the 13 original colonies) containing 76 people. # 1979 (age 65): Jack towed 65 boats in Lake Ashinoko, near Tokyo, Japan. He was handcuffed and shackled, and the boats were filled with 6,500 pounds of Louisiana Pacific wood pulp. # 1980 (age 66): Jack towed 10 boats in North Miami, Florida. The boats carried 77 people, and he towed them for over one mile in less than one hour. # 1984 (age 70): Once again handcuffed and shackled, Jack fought strong winds and currents as he swam 1.5 miles while towing 70 boats with 70 people from the Queen's Way Bridge in the Long Beach Harbor to the Queen Mary. |
Re: Never ask a lady her age
Yeah, out of shape isn't a lot of fun. Yoga's great, so are swimming and walking, even when you're older, because they're low-impact.
I think I qualify for "mindly depressed" at times, but then exercise, sunlight, and vitamins do wonders for that. |

Well, having solved aging-which is a biggy-they can probably go on to solve the problem of regenerative (as opposed to degenerative) tissue, so you might be 85 but you'd look 35 or so.

Re: intermediate results
Several have said they have all their old consoles and computers. How do you do it?
My better half is an obsessive/compulsive neat freak, whereas I am a gatherer (sounds good, doesn't it). It is a constant running battle, without a turn limit, between her wanting to toss all my stuff and my well rooted attachment to my veteran possessions. Just last night we had a discussion (her word, not mine) about my three old computers sitting in the basement. She caught me in a poor defensive position and I got trampled. I am open to viable (even semi-viable) advice, lies or excuses. |

I own 5 PC systems and more on the way. I tie the systems into the type of work I do which is also computer related. What may also work for you is say those systems are antiques and will be worth lots of money in the future, but you'll need to make sure they keep working. |
Re: intermediate results
She has trample you say? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
You solve it the way you solve it in-game: 1. Lots of archers! Bombard her with arguments until she tire. 2. Be bigger than she is. She can't trample you when you can look down upon her. Although this usually means that she will draw her sword instead, stabbing you where it really hurts. 3. Be agile! High defense means that you can avoid her arguments until she becomes fatigued. Watch out for life drain though as this will reinvigorate her! These creatures really excels at life drain so be vary. 4. Soulslay. Will probably just bounce off because they usually don't have a soul to slay. 5. Glamour. Pretend that you are the person she wants you to be. When she is happy with you she will go and torment some other poor creature and you are free to continue with your perversion. 6. Run away and hide for a while. My favorite choice actually! Caution! Try this at your own risk! Results may vary and you risk being cursed or horror marked for the rest of your life! |

[/quote] I used to be able to, then I discovered action-games make me too twitchy. Combining a nervous condition, age, and loud explosions doesn't work well, haven't played an action game since Doom 3. Even (timed) chess makes me twitchy. Dominion's pace works much better http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: intermediate results
Not only does she have trample, she has a +4 trample, the bonus earned through experience, not an artifact or other artificial means. She must have a level 9 artifact that negates my size advantage, so the many times I tried that plan have proven it to be a sure loser. Also the arrow defense is not real practical either, the slightest pinprick triggers a berserk and a demon transformation.
I do like the antique arguement, so consider that idea stolen. I normally rely on agility, wits, selective deafness, fault memory claims, delaying tatics and toughness as my primary defense. Unfortunately, last night I was caught behind castle walls. When I got home from work I mowed the lawn, and because it was hot and humid I decided that I needed to replenish my body fluids. Then I thought to build up a reserve of fluids in case I encountered a future situation that might involve sweating (always looking out for my health). When the assault came the walls were comprised of 8 or 9 empty Coor's cans. They did not prove to be as stout a defensive barrier as you might think. There also seems to be some rule that was omitted in the manual that I am not allowed to retake provinces previously lost. It also appears that I am the only one that this rule applies to, probably a difficulty level handicap. (I should have gone for the easy level, not the impossible level.) The Dev's must have sent me a Beta manual, because there are all sorts of rules that arise that I never heard of previously. |
Re: intermediate results
The only possible solution to your conundrum is through the use of transformation, which will work best with the EA R'lyeh nation: You must turn yourself into a Slave Prince.

Re: intermediate results
I recommend upgrading to a computer-compatible wife. My lovely wife Lace came with GameFriendly™ installed. She has more computers than I do¹ and more games, too. Unfortunately, she won't play Dom3, because of all the micromanagement (Devs: this is why I keep asking for improvements. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif )
1: unless you count the house servers, which I keep running, as mine. BTW, I'm 38 and she's 36. |
Re: intermediate results
Upgrading is difficult, possibly a conversion program may be more accessible. For instance my wife-bot loves games up to about Mario level (Super NES Mario level), my plan is to acquire a Wii and hopefully convert her to mutually enjoyable games.
On the other hand, she very rarely gives me grief over the 12+ hours I spend at the computer a day as long as the rest of the waking moments are spent either being productive or kissing up to her. |
Re: intermediate results
Anyone who's not married needs to be taking notes.
I learned the key was to be yourself (in my case a videogame dork) right out of the box. Then if she sticks around, she's accepted it. I have most of my old systems along with quite a selection of games. |

Re: intermediate results
I'm 31. My wife never knew I played games until we were married and she moved in.
I've had to slowly acclimate her to it. Since being married I've had to cut down my game hours and had to stop playing time intensive games like WoW. Which is good for me in the long run because I have time for more productive things. Just do your turn for the day and you're done. |
Re: intermediate results

Re: intermediate results
Hey Tibbs I was high warlord in wow. But I retired shortly after the expansion made all my high warlord gear useless.
I have no regrets though. It was fun for awhile, but at age 47, mashing buttons at supersonic speed is hard on the joints! Give me dom III anytime. |
