Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

Okay guys, you can now upload your pretenders whenever you're ready. To do this:

- Make sure you have no mods enabled
- Go to Game Tools -> Create a pretender god in Dominions
- Go to the savedgames/newlords folder in the dominions directory, and find your pretender file (e.g. mid_pythium_0.2h)
- E-mail the file to: pretenders[ at ]llamaserver[ dot ]net
- Crucially, you must have the game name 'Platypus' in the subject line of your e-mail

you can see who's joined so far at www.llamaserver.net .

I'll be Lanka. If I've already been set to Ulm, however, that's fine. Llamabeast, could you please let me know which?

I think you're Lanka cleveland, so long as you're happy with that.

Rock on. Cleveland - you are lanka. Thanks for making pretender uploading possible Llama.

Okay, upload your pretenders folks, and if your team hasnt chosen a number 1-4 please do so (not 3, already taken).

IŽll start working on the pretender right now. Being a random number, iŽll pick the number 4 for our team.

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

Okay, here's the breakdown:

1. Everyone needs to upload pretenders. As soon as this is done we can start, yay.

2. Province starts are semi-set. Each team has 2 players and 2 start spots. I will randomly assign which of two goes where by coin flip unless you tell me you'd prefer otherwise. The start spots are:

Names.........Provinces
-----------------------
Sivoc and Egoix - 8&23
Coturnix and ExitJudas - 141&118
Cleveland and Cicadian - 84&52
TrajanX and Zylithan - 146&153

I will try to set this late tonight, to give people time to respond, but also to get the game to start. I will post to this forum where everyone starts (so I don't know any more than anyone else) once the map is set. If everyone uploads pretender tonight, we'l all have turns waiting for us tomorrow. yay!

Thanks all for being patient and great during setup. Hope we have a fun and competitive game.

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

Hey sorry for being the quiet one (same as in Oppossum) but life is giong through one of those busy times.. This game is going to be awesome though! I've only been Mictlan briefly in a SP game and had a pretty horrible time with the whole blood business. Seriously, I can think of many more interesting things for a egomaniacal wannabe diety to do with maidens, other than sacrifice them, but I digress. Blood for the Blood God and all that good stuff. Although what the hell is an Argatha? Bandar Log? Lots of races I haven't seen before, this will be fun. Maybe by the end we can all be 90% noobs instead of 100% http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

Also, Zylithan, you left out the coolest-but-most-obvious factoids about platypi. They have beaks and lay eggs but are furry and warm blooded. Non-viviparous mammals are awesome. Someone should make a monotreme race for Dom 3!

Zylithan October 15th, 2007 06:16 PM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

Sounds like you just volunteered. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Then, when you're done, I'll make a tritreme race and we'll see how well you do against me.:p Frick it, if 3 blades are better why not go for 4, I'll make a quadratreme race. I'll so have many more tremes than you.

Can't wait to go home, have a beer, and maybe get this game started.

Awesome folks. 3/8 submitted. If I can get mine and my monotremeophilic teammate to submit we're more than halfway / almost there!

Does the radio-silence mean people don't really care who is where?

ok, i just randomly assigned based on laziness.

abysia ......8

kailasa.....141
Arcos......118
Lanka.....68

i sorta got a new pretender idea. is it possible to overwrite the pretender on the server before the game starts?

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

Awesome job team platypus. This game has gotten up and going relatively quickly for a bunch of noobs. I think within 24 hours we should all get our first turns. Turns are due within 24 hours of the last turn (early turns should move quickly). If all turns are sent in early, we get more turns quicker. I'm american so more is always better to me.

As always, info on the llamaserver can be found at:
http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...?Number=531116

Quoting directly from the great llama's mouth:
------------------------------------------------
irst, you need to create a directory for the game. Go to your dominions3 directory, open the 'savedgames' folder, and then within savedgames create a new folder with whatever name you want - but generally using the name of the game is a good idea.

So for example for the 'Alpaca' game, I created a directory 'dominions3\savedgames\Alpaca'.

When the game starts, you will be sent a trn file. You need to put this in the game folder you just created. You'll then be able to play your turn as normal using the 'Play an existing game' option in Dominions.

Once you've taken your turn and hit 'End turn', you should find a 2h file in the same directory that you put your trn file in. It'll have a name along the lines of 'mid_machaka.2h' (depending obviously on the age and the nation you're playing). This is the file that contains your orders, and you then need to email it to turns[ at ]llamaserver[ dot ]net. Obviously replace '[ at ]' with '@' and '[ dot ]' with '.' - I've written it funny so that the e-mail address doesn't get used for spam e-mails.

Within a few minutes you should get a receipt e-mail from the server (it checks its emails every five minutes). You can also see who's taken their turns and when the deadline is by looking at the website - www.llamaserver.net.

ExitJudas October 16th, 2007 03:33 PM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

don't you need to write the game name in the subject when sending in turns?

Zylithan October 16th, 2007 03:54 PM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

ExitJudas - I'm not sure. I know for pretender creation it was required, uncertain about turns, but I always intend to http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

One thing i liked about the manual, and that helps me with pbem, is it says that XXXXX.2h means "to host" and thats the one I send away. Nice and simple.. Just like me.

It's nice how llamaserver gives you, within 5 minutes, confirmation if it received something okay. So I just wait for that. It's really an awesome service.

ExitJudas October 16th, 2007 04:22 PM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

yep its great. waiting for the turn now....gimme! im in europe though, and heading to bed soon, so unless the turn shows up pretty soon ill be gone for the next 10 hours at least. can prolly sneak a couple of turns tomorrow during work though =)

Zylithan October 16th, 2007 05:47 PM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

I think llama has very limited access to internet now, and I think it is only at work, and he is in UK. So turns might not come until whenever 9am UK time is.

llamabeast October 17th, 2007 08:26 AM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

Okay, we're started!

The first turn has 48 hours on the clock in case of problems, subsequent turns will have 24. You shouldn't need anywhere near the full 48 hours, since the first turn generally takes about 1 minute.

When you send your turns in you don't need to write 'Platypus' or anything - the server can work out what game it's for by looking at the file. Just send a blank e-mail with the attachment.

Enjoy the game guys!

Sivoc October 17th, 2007 09:22 AM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

Zylithan,

Do you have a list of the mods needed for the game and links to them.

Cause I've been ask to install several new mods including:
Worthy Heroes 1.7b
Streamers and standards 3
a couple of LA nation mods, but got stock on quickfix310v4 as I can't seem to find it?
and would Worthy Heroes not affect our Pretender builds?

TrajanX October 17th, 2007 09:30 AM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

I am having the same problem, it was the "Ulm Reborn" mod. I didn't know we were using mods! Where do I get this? And why Ulm? We don't have an Ulm http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

hmm now it asks for vaetti.dm. seems the game has been hosted with tons of mods.

llamabeast October 17th, 2007 10:13 AM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

Ooh dear, that's not meant to happen. There should be no mods at all.

This is a bug I've run up against before - seems to be a problem with Dominions itself actually. I guess I will have to do a restart...

llamabeast October 17th, 2007 10:26 AM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

Okay, I've restarted the game. It shouldn't need any mods this time.

Zylithan October 17th, 2007 10:27 AM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

I just woke up and I have two copies, one came 2 hours before the other. I only opened the second one, I'm guessing that is the fixed resend with no mods... and it works fine.

So... I think we're in business now!

Zylithan October 17th, 2007 12:53 PM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

first turn is in swing.

some comments/reminders:

1) The only thing, maybe I should have said this earlier, is there is an exploit where someone casts mist warriors and retreats. DONT DO THAT. I dont really know more, b/c I'm never seen this, only read about it. Hopefully no one built their whole strategy on this exploit and is now upset http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

2) If you are the last to play your turn, if you wait 5 mins, you can be the first to do the next turn. You can check the game status at: http://www.llamaserver.net/gameinfo.cgi?game=Platypus

3) Hope everyone has fun!

ExitJudas October 17th, 2007 05:02 PM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

btw zylithan: is the map set to 150% gold as you mentioned above? if so what does it exactly mean?

Zylithan October 17th, 2007 05:29 PM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

It is. It just means that every province gives you 150% of the normal amount of gold. I think this was recommended because so many provinces on this map have mountains or forest, which tend to be low income. We'll see how this plays as time goes on. I've never actually completed a game SP or MP, so I don't really know what happens goldwise as you start to expand to more provinces and more castles. There's always SOMETHING to buy...

Llamaserver seems to be a little flukey, doesnt register incoming turns. But send them in anyhow. I remain confident that llama will fix things in the UK morning, and hopefully we don't have to delay hosting. I will monitor the situation, however.

Sivoc October 22nd, 2007 03:02 AM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

yeah it seems like his mail-daemon is having some trouble.
But to make sure we don't miss a turn, couldn't you turn off quickhost? just untill we are sure it function properly again.

Zylithan October 22nd, 2007 09:52 AM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

I have given commands for quickhost to turn off and to delay turn hosting briefly because of the troubles llamaserver seems to be having. I do not believe either command had any effect, however, as the deadline does not change.

Best advice is try to submit your turn (once) anyhow, and just hope when it comes back up it checks all its email before it hosts.

I think/trust llama has some sort of backup system, so I'm not too worried.

Sivoc October 22nd, 2007 02:42 PM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

it seems like llamabeast have fixed the server, so just turn quickhost back on.

Zylithan October 22nd, 2007 02:46 PM

Re: Platypus: Noob Team Game Full

Llamaserver is fixed, and game is set to quickhost again. People should soon get turns.
