Hi folks,

24/turn still working out OK for everyone?

Indy,

Although it looks as if my demise will be soon, I can still take care of the admin duties unless you want to take on this role. Let me know.

Forseti - Contact us, The Bastion of Hope

Cowardly Tien Chi has launched a sneak attack against the Man!

They planned the attack during our negotations of NAP and flooded us with spies of which two are already hung. Nevertheless they managed to slip trough three eunuchs who caused some unrest in our capital and simultaneusly two armies of some 300 hundred eunuchs (spearmen and archers and some sappers) attacked our two borderprovinces.

Our defences slaughtered them (149 ragged bodies were counted while our 8 heroes were given last sacrament of Zhukov).

The first hit against the Tien Chi has been staggering due to losses in men and commanders - but they are far from beaten. Their land is already very vast and it has many very rich provinces due to their swift advance during the first months. But now they are bogged down in the far northwestern part of the map. We are by far poorer than them and due to unrest we are cautious to attack Thien Chi outright as they have very resurcerich castles on our borders with more than able reserves.

But now we are calling all free nations across the land to join us in our holy crusade against the eunuchs. We are going to take care of the fighting and the cake is being served elsewhere, right on your borders!

If you already have succumbed to their diplomatic lies concerning non-agression you have to withdraw your partnership with them. With us conquered you will be left with huge and very aggressive neighbour but with them divided you are left with friendly me as an ally and the provinces of the Tien Chi fairly divided.

Be kind and atleast contact us, the Man, the Bastion of hope against the hordes.

Re: Forseti - Contact us, The Bastion of Hope

Heh. Let's review our history in detail, shall we?

1) I conquer Port Palatuk, an Indy-held province, somewhere around Turn 9 or 10.

2) You message me stating that it is yours because it is two provinces from your capital, and you would consider it 'fair' for me to 'return' it to you. (This, despite the fact that you did not even have an army neighbouring it!)

3) I refuse to return it, but happily offer an NAP. You refuse the NAP, requiring Port Palatuk and various assurances as conditions. I am not agressive, so I am willing to provide many of those assurances (not attacking provinces that are *actually* yours because you actually *own* them--an odd concept I know, not attacking the indy provinces on the far side of the river between us, allowing you freedom to attack our northern neighbour and continue expanding, and so forth). I am unwilling to give up Port Palatuk, and say so. Repeatedly.

4) While negotiating, you move a large army into your province neighbouring Port Palatuk, then message me essentially saying "I'm taking it. If you don't like it, we can be at war. But I am willing to give you 50 gold a turn for it, once things settle down."

5) I let you, and wait and see. 5-6 turns pass. No coin sent my way. Castle and temple (at least) are completed on Port Palatuk. Still no coins. And no messages either for at least 3 turns' time.

Shocker.

6) I attack. Get rebuffed. (Hardly a slaughter, I'll have you in a few turns.) Even now, I offer--in a much, much less conciliatary tone--to reopen negotiations if I'm paid what I was promised. Your public post in this thread is your response to me. ; )

I let the other players decide who was the aggressor, and who has negotiated in bad faith.

Re: Forseti - Contact us, The Bastion of Hope

Feeble words from a rotten empire,

How do you explain your five spies in my territory and three in my capitol puting up a revolt? The spies count for a big number of turns and commanders arranged only to attack our small nation.

The castle in the Port Palatuk was the condition of paying the 50 gold and you agreed to that - As you agreed to treaty to hand the province Port Palatuk to us.

The same turn our castle was finished your huge armies appeared to the borders with sappers neighbouring the finished castle ...and in the same month your spies started to pop up and still no response to our mails. Does all of Tien Chi think we men are as stupid as your eunuchs?
We didn't give you the 50 gold as we foresaw your immediate attack that happened before any gold could have reached Tien Chi coffers!

We prepared for a month - and as you saw our preparation was enough. Let's see if the eunuch has what it takes to overcome us. I, Zhukov roam the country and still have a couple of those things!

-Zhukov the Anticipated

I am neutral on the TeinChi/Man conflict.

I would like to offer a call to arms against ULM!
On meeting we (Jotunheim) offered peaceful coexistance. Ulm replied that they needed "Lebensraum" and I was attacked by thier "god" ADOLF. I tell you all this is a sick nation that must be put down. So there for TO WAR!

I call all peace and freedom loving nations to divide Ulm before they build thier war machine!

There may be rewards for joining the crusade against Ulm (contact me for details).

Any nation with an excess of death gems, who wishes to trade for nature, water, or fire gems, or pearls, please contact the denizens of the Mictlan jungles by PM'ing vfb.

This offer does not mean other previous discussions about trading gem-related resources are off. We are still interested in those other trades.

It's just, well, diversity and all that "spice of life" we keep hearing about as we do our jungle dances and sky watchings.

Oh, and we've found a Hunter's Knife and a Stinger in the forest. Whoever dropped those, please contact us and we can return them for a very small finder's fee and miniscule transportation charges.

I hope all the civilized community wouldn't fall for pathetic Jotunheim propaganda. The situation is quite opposite actually, from the very start peaceful ulmish peasants are thwarting constant attacks of gigantic barbarians. But hopefully only one of our neighbours can join Jotunheim unholy crusade at the moment. And this neighbour is massing forces on my borders anyway:)

I am back.
Aethyr: I though we had 30 hour turns from the start so we would be speeding up.

Otherwise i wouldn't mind fast turns, but i have to move next weekend due to a new job in another city and i might have trouble in keeping up with the turns if i am not able to install dom3 into either of mine work computers i am going to receive. But it's to be seen later.

If you guys dont mind i might need one or two short extensions during settling in to new life.

[BTW: do you know if the game will run if i simply copy the folder into another computer or do i have to install it with admin account. I wont have adming rights http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif ]

I say we keep the 30 hour host as we are really not that far into the game yet. Of course, granting extensions whenever somebody needs one is fine with me.

Whollaborg, I play from my work laptop sometimes, don't have admin rights on that and it works fine. Although it still depends on the settings I think - I seem to remember a laptop at a previous employer where the nazi-IT department had restricted running .exe files of applications it didn't recognize... Guess you'll just have to try and find out.

Forseti - Man in need

Our war efforts against Tien Chi are not advancing even thou we killed the four spies in our capital the turn before last and managed to clear the unrest already.

Tien Chi tried to break our defences with another lousy assault last turn. The death toll makes us pity our adversary. Not a single one died from our side but 6 of 11 attacking commanders fell and out of 192 troops 142 perished. The eunuchs try to rely on their superior numbers but cannot even cratch our defences at all.

For the war to end man would like to trade gems, we are in need of astral if any of you are interested in air or nature, please contact us.

And also we are in dire need of those boots rumored to end the ageing of our witches. We are willing to pay handsomely for few of those.

50+ PD spent in two provinces, and an army parked in each, will do that. So I must now settle down to a long protracted siege to take you down. What I lost was primarily the 60+ militia I was 'lucky' enough to have join my armies. I still outproduce you, I will still destroy you.

You are a liar and cheat. Take you down I will, the cost does not matter to me. *shrug* Screw me over, and I will screw you over, harder and more final. It's...just the way I'm built. ; ) One way or another, you *will* lose this game.

Poetic Justice

The God of all gods, lord of the heavens, and true power behind all events (the RNG) has punished Mictlan for our mercenary actions. The poor people of Wick's Neck were both invaded by villains and struck by a plague, all in one month.

In other news, Mictlan seeks Earth gems. We will trade one-to-one Fire gems or Nature gems in return.

IndyPendant February 3rd, 2008 11:20 PM

Re: Poetic Justice

To vfb: Heh. Wow. I...didn't know whether to scowl or grin when I first saw you attack Wick's Neck! I've finally decided to applaud your opportunism, and the fact that justice of a sort has been served without any intervention on my part is funny. ; ) Enjoy the province while you have it.

To Whollaborg: Scorched earth, you scumbag. See option 1. I cannot stop your army. I made a number of mistakes this game--not least of them trying to deal honestly and fairly with a filthy, scheming thug like you. But still, I am a relative n00b to MP in general, and each lying manipulative prick I meet makes me wiser. Unfortunately, my No Indies mod keeps me from scorching as much earth as I would like to; still, anything and everything I can do to reduce your gains from your victory will be done. Anything at all.

To everyone else: all NAPs with T'ien Ch'i are hereby nullified. Do as you will, and do it before Man does. A warning though: do not trust Whollaborg, ever. He will use pretty words and promise anything he thinks you will swallow, to let him sneak around behind you. Then, when he judges the timing right, regardless of what he has said in the past or what agreements he has made with you, he will bend you over and ram it up. I won't belabour this point, as I don't want to take away from the other players' fun--just be very, very careful to remember what happened to me.

My advice, if anyone is interested, is to attack Man now (those who are able), while his armies are occupied conquering my provinces. He cannot afford to ignore me, because I intend to stay in the game for as long as I can do him the slightest harm, and if he eases off on me I will be all over him again with whatever I have left.

And may the best man win! (A safe toast, since that excludes Whollaborg.)

Sweeping

The peaceful mercenaries^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H dwellers of the Mictlan jungles looked to our borders, and were pleased. For though our lands are small, no great armies loomed to threaten our lazing about and mushroom hunting.

But a great wind blew from the north, bearing tidings of a wave of horsemen, or manhorses, sweeping away all that lay before them! Where will these sweepers sweep next? We fear they will turn their gaze south, to our tranquil jungles.

As a favour to our friends, the nation of Pan, we hereby cancel our NAP with them, so that in three months time, when the leaves start to fall from the trees, they may commence the sweeping of our jungles.

You should learn not to strangle anyone with early agression of territory mongering if you are not intending or capable of taking them out.

I am very confused. Tried my workplace's table and laptop computers and two different email softwares on those.

Perhaps our workplace scans all attachments and deletes any files labelled midman*.* etc? dont know if that's possible, because the files goes trough gmail from the laptop and wireless into the deskcomputer's workplace-email. Huh?

If the game auto-hosts at 10:00 GMT as scheduled, and anyone staled because the email service was broken, then hopefully llamabeast has backups and will be kind enough to undo the turn and wait until everyone can submit before rehosting.
