Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
I was refering to the series "Rangers" (or something like that, maybe it was "Crusader" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif ). The studio played all the episodes out of order to the point they made no sense. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
MJS was not happy!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/Injured.gif |
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
Huh, there's not going to be more Babylon 5 mini-movies?
|
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
Legend of the Rangers was a movie he made that was meant to be another spin off, but didn't do very well thus no spin-off.
B5: Crusade was the horrible attempt at a spin-off right after B5 that was random and completely different from everything else that B5 had even set a precident for. |
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
Crusade was 100% network interference. They wanted it dumbed down, sexed up, and cheaper to make.
At least they didn't fire JMS and kept the series going as some horrible relative to Andromeda. |
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
I just remember my buddies telling me that the "powers to be" hosed over the show. I never got a chance to actually see it myself.
Last nights episode of BSG really reached new depths... I hope when the cylons get to earth they eliminate the writers!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
Sorry to be a spoilsport, but I didn't like the new BSG serie from the beginning. The first episode (when the Cylons destroyed the diplomatic station, or whatever it was) was absolutely cool. But as soon as the story introduced multiple copies of characters I lost interest. Also the camera-work during battles is in my opinion horrendous. I don't like the constant panning, zooming and rotating. I want to concentrate on the beautiful models the CGI crew created. Later on, as RandallW said, I got irritated by the dull episodes. So I stopped watching.
Ah well, everyone his or her own fault. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
For me, BSG is kind of a... "I have nothing better to do at that time on that day, so it keeps me from being (extraordinarily) bored."
Not a ringing endorsement. |

Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
There's really good fanfiction and webcomics out there.
Just ask me. I've got more than I know what to do with. I mean, literally. I do not know what to do with all of this; I can't even keep up with it! Anybody want a great BSG fanfic? Here Definitly AU, very funny, very well-written. Battletech crossover... |
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
Ok, what's going on with the actual episodes? Kara is the "harbinger of death"! Like that is a surprise. There's always a dead body or two around her nowadays. But the part I didn't understand from the last episode was when the Hybrid was talking about the 3 of the 5, or whatever she was saying. anybody have a clue? I know it's probably referencing 3 of the 4 special Cylons that we know of, but I'm not sure. I didn't get a chance to watch the rerun. Can someone clue me in?

That sounds right from what I can remember.

Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
Yeah the girl that played xena saw the 5 models. Wasnt that the reason her model was entirely scrapped ?
|
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
The reason her model was boxed was due to her obsession with the other 5, which the others saw as unhealthy, dangerous and divisive.

Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
OK, a lot's happened. Six pregnant, by Tigh no less. I thought the Cylons couldn't get pregnant unless they were in "love". I can see Saul seeing his dead wife's face in Six, but I can't picture her that in love with Tigh to get impregnated.
Lee's now the interim president. I can see that becoming permanent if Roslin dies before the end of the show. And did you get the editing of the trailer on last Friday's show? Lucy Lawless's charachter (Deana or Briana or whatever it is) telling someone that they're the 5th special cylon, and they sure made it look like she was talking to Roslin. How would Adama feel about the woman he's finally admitting he loves turns out to be a cylon? Can't wait to see this weeks episode. |
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
Renegade, i dont think you are right. They boxed her model not because of her focus on the final five (who are the first 5 actually) but because she knew who there were.

Uh, hello all... LTNS. I'm surprised by the amount of negative reaction to the show overall on this board. Personally, I think it's some of the best TV written and produced since West Wing. I'm slightly annoyed with Lee Adama ascending to the presidency in a single episode, but other than that I think the whole thing's a rip-roarin' good time. Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
I'm with you, TT. I don't know why a lot of people don't like this show. I think it's a great show and may be worthy of being called a classic along with Star Trek and Babylon 5. But the season's halfway over with, and I can't wait to see what happens when they finally find Earth (which may be this Friday, going by the trailer).
|
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
Heh...Would be funny (If I watched the show) if everyone on Earth was a cyborg...
|
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
it seems to me a lot of the negative reaction stems from it not being what people expected or wanted. For me, that's the most captivating part.
The first episode, 33 was amazing in my opinion. My biggest complaint on the whole series in that apparent aimless plan of the cylons who, after wiping out humanity is playing with the survivors like a cat with a wounded mouse. That and many plot arcs could've been carried out longer and fleshed out in detail and made a whole lot better. Such as Pegasus, new Caprica, the black market/zarek thing, baltar's trial and so on. Oh, and I felt the revealed 4 cylons was a major cop-out. |

Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
I don't know about cop-out. I'm just amazed at the astronomical odds that 5 hidden Cylons, out of all of the billions of humans who died, are among the survivors. And most of them are well-placed, except for Anders, who's only Starburck's husband and a fledgling Viper pilot. But if Balter isn't the 5th Cylon, I wonder who it will be.

Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
Hum-Hum. Nice episode. Just watched the latest three (-s04e10) in a row. Now im kinda stuck. How does it continue ? Still lacking the final one.

I missed Friday's episode. Went and saw teh Incredible Hulk instead. Much, much better than that 2 hours of wasted space that came out in 2003. But was it worthing missing BSG for? Only depends on what happened. I'll try to catch it this Friday, but then Get Smart is coming out also. I'll see if we can go see it on Saturday instead. I hate missing BSG when i can avoid it.

Re: OT: BSG - wtf?

Then you missed the end of the season, grege. You'll have to torrent it or wait for the DVDs. SPOILER: Summary here - http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com...elations_1.php |
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
AS of last week, you could watch it in 10 minute increments on youtube (five parts).

I thought this was supposed to be the final season? I'm confused. When is the next episode? The writer's strike put a small lag in the episodes, and with the post production needed, the episodes would be ready too late in the season, so ... the producers decided to push the last half of the final season way into the future, say 2009, some time. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif |

Just another way to milk the battlestar galatica cash cow IMHO. It's hard to avoid coming to that conclusion, when the producers openly say that they'll have the episodes sooner, but don't want to release them, because they'll be in competition with the US football season. I read that and I'm like "WTF?, I've got TiVo. VCR's have been around long enough for most people to have them. And maybe a diehard fan would rather see an episode of BSG instead of one game." I just don't get it. Well, like I said before, they probably won't resolve everything in the final few episodes, there will probably subtle hints buried in Razor and Caprica about what's really happened. It's hard for me to keep track of these -- is Razor done, and soon to be shown, or did we see it already. And is Caprica still on the drawing board, or what? I don't think I want to get sucked into another serial. But then again, what else has the SciFi channel got that's good? |
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
Unfortunately, ratings don't count Tivo or VCR's.
The decision to split the season into two chunks existed since season 2 and many networks are now treating the mid-season hiatus as a tv season break. Why? Because why sell 20 episodes of TV in a boxed set for 49.99 when you can sell 10 episodes in a TV boxed set for 39.99. I blame you Brian Singer. That was your idea! |

Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
SciFi has taken to delaying series for upwards of 9-months to a year now. Normally breaks are 4-6 months over the summer season when viewership drops due to summer travel and whatnot.
I personally think scifi has been having a lot of securing advertisers and is using the extra time to sell more ads plus scifi is interested in more marketable items, hence the surge in tv movies and miniseries on the network Plus I do recall RDM stating he rewrote or kicked back the entire back half of the season after the writer's strike to improve overall quality of the finale which we now know won' include arrival at earth. |
Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
OK, saw the finale the other day. Whoa!! What a way to end the show. From the previous posts, it don't sound like a lot of you liked the show, but I thought it was a great show from beginning to end. I just wished that when they had found our Earth, it would have been in a modern setting, not 150,000 years ago! Can't wait for the dvd set to come out to see them again.

Re: OT: BSG - wtf?
If I was the sort of person susceptible to outward expressions of positive emotion then I'd be laughing my head off. I just love that I quit caring years ago rather than waste time watching it.
I didn't realise it was finishing, but then again I haven't been paying attention. All I knew was something about taking a year off, or only having half a season, and then suddenly I hear it's going out with a 10 hour marathon or something. I looked it up after it finished and could hardly believe it, but then I can't think of any other way it could have finished, except the one I've had for years. It was the endless inner philosophy, along with losing respect for the bunch of them, that put me off and the ending I read about seems to at least be an inevitable result of turning the whole thing into philosophy....IN SPACE. I've got nothing against philosophy, in fact it's one of my study hobbies, but you can have science fiction and then you can have sitting down and contempleting things. Both at once just gets boring, much as I understand people dislike the Matrix films (note: I do however love that the head machine that solves the problem at the end is literally called the Deus Ex Machina). Actually I'm at a loss to understand some of how it ended, which is only natural since I stopped caring 3 or 4 years ago, but I'm not even interested enough to seek clarification of the bits I don't understand. |
