It was an honest mistake, and I think we should restart. If we use the fixed starting position map, does it still use the same.tga file? Do we players need to download anything? Or does the .trn file map data include everything we need?

Sounds good to me. I saw a fixed start map when I started the game, but I don't know where to DL it. I'm going to look around and see what I can figure out.
.....edit: We can't DL the map. Apparently we just need the regular map file we already have. The server randomly assigns us to the hand picked, balanced start positions. I didn't realize that I could delete the original game, so I started a new one. Send your pretenders to DeadlyMedley2, instead. I probably could have done this restart better and kept the same name. Oh well. Learning experience and all that. |

Yeah, there's even a bonus new admin option which allows you to take a newly started game and take it back to the "Waiting for pretenders" stage, keeping all the pretenders, called "Restart game" I think. As you say though, all a learning experience, I think people had gotten used to the old set of options. Hmm, I really should update the FAQ soon, as it's horribly out of date.
Also, you're right about the map, you don't need to download it. |

If the person playing Arco doesn't speak up, I'm going to set them to AI as soon as the game starts. If you're going to change factions let me know about it. How else can I see how many players we have?

well I think we should kick Arco out, etiquette is one thing, but this would also avoid potential cheating and stalling.
According to my previous MP experience mysterious players who fail to acknowledge their identity should be banned in the first place, before something goes wrong. |

it's pretty universal that they end up just staling out. If he's a real player, he should be able to post... Ubercat, you can restart it while keeping our other sent pretenders, right?
should modify the title to say we would like one or two more players, then. |

Got this e-mail from a guy yesterday:
-- Hi, This was going to be my first multiplayer Dominions game. It was said in the Llamaserver FAQ not to use a password for your pretender. It seems that somebody has hijacked my pretender as soon as the game started and reset the email address to their own email. I was playing as Arcoscephale. This is very discouraging and I think in the future you should not tell people not to set a password. -- Of course it had nothing to do with the password. Took me a while to realise I could check his e-mail address against the log to work out which game he was talking about. Anyway, it seems he was your mysterious Arco player. I e-mailed him back to explain you have to post on the forum if you want to play in a game, and that you were well within your rights to kick him, but also that if he posted here to join a game he'd be very welcome. Mystery (largely) solved. Still seems a bit bizarre he didn't post, but there we go. |

a lot of rivers are impassible... it's probably a fair ways away really, and dominion won't spread between them either, as the game doesn't consider them connected in any way. I believe the capitals in question are actually 4 apart.

We appear to have lost Ulm. I'll give him one more turn before I do anything drastic. I guess I should've said the typical "2 stales in a row and you'll be set to AI" that many games seem to include.

Be ready whoever is next to Ulm. The AI will buy a helluva force with 3 stale turns of gold.... on the other hand the Ulm Capital is E3D1N2 I believe.

Looks like we're losing Tir as well. If they stall tonight it will be the fourth in a row. If that happens I'll AI them as well.
Oh WHY can't people have the courtesy to let us know when they're quitting and AI themselves? No wonder all the more experienced game starters lay down the law in their OP's. They must have figured out long ago that you can't trust people to do the right thing. Yeah, sure, could be PC trouble. Seems to be a lot of that in this game. |

I'd like to request we go to 48 hr hosting, as i'm losing internet connectivity at the place i'm staying (the guy got into an argument w/ his provider, and so cancelled everything ;p), and won't have my own until I go back in Sept.
I can manage 48 hr turns, but 24 is just too tight, as everything is dependent upon my getting to some internet cafe etc... otherwise, I'll try and look for a sub, but as I'm in a very difficult war w/ aby, i'm not sure if i'll find takers. and going AI would suck, as there have been 3 already :( |
