I'm pretty happy with my start position, but I'm good to go with a restart if someone's had a Pretender problem.

Allright, the game is restarted, or at least should be... Please re-submit your pretenders if needed. I'll be putting the game back up either tomorrow morning or today evening, depending a bit about rebelais.

No, they were saved from before. In fact, the game has already begun again.

Thank god score graphs are off, otherwise I would be too embarrassed to continue. Horrible start position... Dead Prophet, annihilated starting force. My cav got away, but with no general...

Oh well, its very freeing to have such low expectations now... just to do one's best in a huge cluster****, and meanwhile hope no one finds you.

Heh, luck comes into play sometimes in dom3..

So, I was wondering if we have a people from US (or somewhere else :D) here who would like to have a thanksgiving-pause for this game? Pop me a PM please. You're free to post here too, it's just that I'll check my private messages more often than this thread.

Allright, another monday, another week, and so on. We'll be continuing with the 24h schedule from now on again (Unless someone wants a day or so of extension?)

Rejoice!

Shad Foth, Mother Hydra, the last Basalt Queen, has awoken from her slumber of ages to lead Atlantis back to dominion of the seas, ending our exile in the cold, barren shores of the Coast of Ice and Bone.

My lands are so poor not even abysia would want them... although now that I am out of expansion room, I will have to pick friends and foes.

I'm soliciting offers if anyone needs help battling another nation's "aggression". with graphs off it's hard to know who to root for, so I'm eager to be spun.

Atlantis will be overjoyed to turn any hot, barren wastes into pleasingly cold, barren wastes. Permafrost is the new desert. We understand entirely if you don't wish to invite us over to enact this spectacular act of landscaping, but bear in mind you're missing out on a thrilling new fashion. We'll throw in free lessons in meditative techniques to deal with lack of sleep, and all for the small price of every province you wish to be terraformed.

Behold the messenger of Abysia, his eyes removed so no sight can dissuade his announcement of truth!

"Concerns have arisen over *heavy breath through teeth* meetings taking place without the Kings ears in form."

*The red hood of the messengers robe lifts showing a young man with red silk patches coving his eyes.*

"Should there arise a need to expand our nations borders think of it as a fire burning through an old growth forrest, allowing a new age to grow in its place."

*He smiles a toothy smile. It almost looks as though something is glowing in his mouth.*

"Be at peace Children of the Mother Hydra; we crave not the sea, cold and devoid of warmth. My Lord reminds any who touch the holy fires that the only choice he will be given, is to throw blasphemous lechers into the Smoldercone."

*Smoke billows from the mans mouth and face, envelopes him, and before you can look back, he is gone; only ash remains in his place.*

The dark secrets of the Iron Order

Dear readers,

In my investigations into the Iron Order I came upon this letter that proves that the order is indeed plotting against the upright people of Ulm. But please, read yourself:

In response to the letter of 21.6.1407
As a first point I have to complain about condemning relationships before marriage as a sin.
The argument that the of the soul lead to the impurity of the ore is nonsensical. I have simpuritytudied the doctrine as well as you. You will find no reference to prove that sexual intercourse makes the soul impure. These concepts most likely stem from the doctrine of Marignon that has been declared heresy in 1401.
Also Black Steel is not made from pure iron. While it is unknown how it was made exactly evidence suggests that the iron was purposefully contaminated before being worked into Black Steel.
From a military perspective this is pure madness. A great part of the infantry consists of bastard children. By cutting down their numbers you will cut down the number of supporting troops the order can field. And as every general knows these are often critical in a campaign.

My second point is that the Hochmeister Theoderik will not be my successor. He is not intelligent enough and too easy to influence to lead the order. Instead I suggest Alfred. He has proven to be an upright man able to think for himself.

Childebert, Großmeister

As we all know both Hochmeister Alfred and Großmeister Childebert died under mysterious circumstances one year later and Theoderik became the new Großmeister. The ..........

Dear all,

There are reports of a disease in Atlantean territory. If this should prove to be the result of another nation seeding our territory with disease-bearing units, it will be considered an act of war, and treacherous breach of NAP if applicable.

Our border patrols have been heightened to a state of alert, and will expect to catch any potential offender soon.

Well turn 25 is past, any need for 48h hosting from anyone? Also is anyone going to have a xmas without access to dom3/internet, so do we need to postpone the hosting until next year? I'm currently working nights so it's going to be tight squeezing some turns in for some games.

I'm OK with an earlier than anticipated break, work has been picking up lately so some more free time would be nice...and I still haven't gotten around to doing my Christmas shopping.

Re: Discharge - LA game - Started

Hecata stared at the map. Blasted Atlantians. Killing her armies. Endangering her lands. Thwarting all her plans. She had to act now before they reached the western seas becoming untouchable. Still she could strike at them. The towers had been built. The pawns were in position, ready to lead the knights. The bishop was being moved. "Check" she muttered to herself ...

... This was madness. Marching all night through the thickest of woods. They said Atlantians could see at night. A bat was flying over him. Maybe it was just him but those damn buggers were becoming more and more.
When they reached the end of forest the moon was shining bright revealing the Atlantian militia. At least they wouldn't have to worry about the light. "Infantry form up! Rangers ready crossbows!" he yelled. After some seconds the sergeant replied "Crossbows ready!". He waited, letting the Atlantians come closer. "Volley!" ...

... After the prayer he looked at the men. The knights saluted, faces of stone. But the infantry ... too many fresh recruits, too many worried faces.
He sighed. "Boys just keep this in mind. We will not drown. Don't try to breathe. Keep the ranks and watch your neighbour. Reinforcements are on the way. Be steady and we shall see the sun again." Silently he added: "Some of us. ... Maybe.". "Let's go!" ...

... Knock. Knock ... Knock. ... Knock. Knock. He opened the door and urged the cloaked man to come in. Just as he shut the door again an Atlantian patrol turned around the corner. They waited in silence as they went away. He lit the candle. All were assembled now. "The order has arrived. It is time to reveal ourselves. Get the girls and the daggers ..."

... It was black magic. He knew. His fiancee was a with. His, the blessed one's. The items she gave to held power. Unholy ... but in a strange harmony with the power of the blessing. If the order ever found out ... there was no way back now.
She had led him below the waves and now they were standing before the Atlantian forces. He still loved her. They would not harm her. At this thought his heart started to pound like a hammer falling down on the anvil. She kissed him while he turned towards the advancing Atlantians. He felt untouchable. Never miss, never tire.
He charged impaling one on his lance. He gripped his sword ...

Re: Discharge - LA game - Started

Bah. The traitors of Ulm. They ask for a NAP, agree to it after negotiations, and then stab their fellow signatories in the back after less than 10 turns.

Still, there is at least one bight side. Apart from one loose province, Ulm shared no land border with Atlantis. Their brief advantage in numbers and surprise will rapidly turn into a wholesale slaughter. Their troops may be granted underwater breathing but still flounder like beached whales; their mermen are barely skilled and worse equipped; they cannot supply enough waterbreathing for adequate magical backup to their armies.

The war underwater will be short and - for Ulm - very painful. Then Atlantis can strike anywhere and everywhere along Ulm's coast...

I'd like to give warning that I'm moving house in a week or so. I will almost certainly not have home internet access for a while, hopefully just a week or so, but if the telecoms company cocks up like last time it may be up to a month.

I'll have to get the turns at work, transfer them by flash drive, and transfer them back to work to email. It should be mostly okay on 48h turnaround, but I may need extensions, especially at weekends.

Quitti January 10th, 2009 09:23 PM

Re: Discharge - LA game - Started

Just give me ample warning (preferably by a PM) and it should be okay. Also on another note, Arco has staled twice in a row (third stale probably coming up now), anyone know what is their current position, should we postpone hosting until Purgatorio answers my PM or does setting him to AI mess things up too bad?

Nimnio January 10th, 2009 09:48 PM

Re: Discharge - LA game - Started

Maybe just wait to see if he stalls a third time? Three strikes, you're out?

Just a quick note to say after my move I have access problems (they set up the line but didn't apply broadband), and I've requested a one-off 48h delay to Friday morning GMT by PM to Quitti. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Quitti January 15th, 2009 02:43 AM

Re: Discharge - LA game - Started

Purgatorio has not responded to me, nor has anyone informed me of his condition in-game, so I will set Arco to AI. Enjoy your plunder.

Also, hosting delayed by 48 hours for Agema.

Quitti January 15th, 2009 08:27 AM

Re: Discharge - LA game - Started

Arco seems to have a password set to his pretender, so can't set him to AI. You're free to pillage his lands without even AI stepping up. Too bad I'm not his neighbor ;)

Re: Discharge - LA game - Started

I am moving to another city on tuesday, so I might have to stall one or two turns. If I stall more that, maybe I have a problem getting an internet connection quickly and should be replaced (I hope it won't come to that though :))

Why the pushback on this hosting? Everyone is in but Arco (or did we find a sub for Arco?)

Someone hadn't submitted their turn when I checked at evening (hosting would've been in 4 hours or so I think), so postponed it. Should be hosting now.

Hmm, good point. Thanks for keeping track of it ;) Sent 'em both PM's, if nothing comes back in a few turns, they're going AI.
