Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

you should create a new folder, inside your saved games folder, with the name of the game: in this case Lets_Try_Again. than download the turn sent to you by llamaserver and copy it into the folder you just created. than open dominions3, make sure you're on vanilla setting, no CBM or other mods, than go to "play existing game" and click on "Lets_Try_Again". than it should tell you: Lets_Try_Again turn 1, click on it and start your turn.

you do the same process with each new turn sent to you by llamaserver.

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

did all that and nothing shows in the save game dir. i got vista , which is a real pain in the *** with this stuff, any ideas

Krec February 5th, 2010 09:53 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

i figured it out, this damn vista is a real pain, i got it now , GL :D

13lackGu4rd February 5th, 2010 11:20 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

this is the best advise you'll get as far as computers go:
UNINSTALL vista and burn the vista CD! vista is evil, evil, EVIL! uninstall it, get rid of it and never see it again! go back to XP, it's the only safe Microsoft operating system. or even better, get Linux.

Trumanator February 5th, 2010 11:25 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Or get 7 :D Also, I find it helpful to set a shortcut to my savegames folder on my desktop for sending the turns. Make sure to set dominions to run as administrator as well.

Krec February 5th, 2010 11:39 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

because Vista doesnt like the C drive being messed with, i do everything from my desktop and copy and paste manually to the folder , which sometimes requires me to click on the campatible file tab to access the area of the folder i want. its a pain , but it works , some games are fine older games i have to do this . its no biggie once i figure out what works. I used to have a APPLE and man i miss those days. there was NO configuring anything on my old APPLE quadra , it either worked or it didnt . anyways, i got it down now, hope to meet you soon on the MAP jejejejej!!!

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

I must say, that using the llamaserver, once you figure it out, is really pretty great. Really facilitates large sized MP PBEM.

13lackGu4rd February 6th, 2010 07:10 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

yeah it's pretty good. I gotta ask ya'll, can we please pick up the pace, at least for the first few turns? really not much to do until the end of year 1, so there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to get in 2-3 turns each day...

Krec February 6th, 2010 07:12 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

i am online most times so i can crank out turns as fast as they come, lets do this

Astyreal February 6th, 2010 07:48 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

This isn't intended to be a high tempo game as I stated when forming the game.

No pressure, please.

Thanks

Krec February 6th, 2010 08:16 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

np, just looking forward to this game .

13lackGu4rd February 6th, 2010 09:16 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

don't mean for this to be high pressure or anything but on the first 6-12 turns there really is nothing to do... send an expansion party, maybe 2 and even your pretender if awake SC and that's pretty much it... oh yeah and setting your mages to research.

once the quick early part is done with there's no need to pressure it, but right now I don't see a reason why turns should take that much time...

Astyreal February 6th, 2010 11:23 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Because not everyone is online all the time as you guys claim to be...
:)

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

I agree, I cannot play at work. The weekend helps a lot playing, but it less simple the rest of the time.

Why is there no statistic ingame ? Is it an option ? May it be turned on ?

13lackGu4rd February 7th, 2010 07:17 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

it cant be turned on now. in the game settings there's an option to turn graphs on/off, this game was set with graphs off. not sure why but it's alright I guess...

Astyreal February 7th, 2010 10:25 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

I turned that option off, I think it's fairly common option. Gives the game a bit more realistic fog of war. Because we are striving for realism, in Dominions, naturally.

Num February 8th, 2010 06:11 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Too bad. I like to know what the other players do, as it give an idea of the way the game is played... Not really sure that what I do is ok or not at all.
Nevermind.

Humakty February 8th, 2010 08:09 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

yeah, graphs would have been practical, if only to evaluate ourselves.

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Graphs off is certainly less common than on, but yeah, it's not really rare. And it was in the first post, even if it was a bit hidden ;).

Astryeal - just a tip, for any future games you host, it's a good idea to make a clear differentiation between the parts of the first post talking about the game, and the actual ruleset you'll be playing over.

That still won't guarantee everyone reads it, but it makes it much harder to miss.

Num February 8th, 2010 01:47 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

No big deal. I did not even know what graphs off mean. I think it's a guideline for noob player like me. But I do not really care.

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

oh and 1 more thing, some of you haven't turned on private messages. I suggest everybody does so, as it makes diplomacy much easier to conduct(secretly instead of over the forums where everyone else can see it). the default option is private messages off, so you have to turn it on manually in the user control panel.

np, we are all in the same boat, i kind of like not knowing whats going on.

Humakty February 9th, 2010 04:35 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Well, it truly adds something, like a little thriller feeling, but for a nOOb game, graphs would have been kind of useful.

But what use ramblin' is ? I'm all against rererererestarting the game untill everyone is satisfied. We had enougth pain setting this on !

John_Madlock February 11th, 2010 04:12 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Niefelheim skipped last turn.

i actually like playing without the graphs, really adds to the not knowing. walk softly but carry a BIG STICK.:deadhorse:

while you may consider this good news I(and seems like a lot of people on these forums) see it as bad news as it disturbs the natural balance within the game. if it's only a single stale and he'll be back than that's alright I guess, things like that happen, however if he will continue staling and just vanish than we will need to find a sub for him, otherwise his neighbors will gain an unfair advantage over the others...

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Kelpa staled in another game yesterday, too. But his turn is in now for that game, so maybe he had a temporary connection problem. Or one of those pesky RL intrusions. ;)

Astyreal, can you just add a few hours to the timer? Quickhost will still be on, so it should go as soon as all turns are in.

No problem. I just updated the hosting interval to 36hrs.

kelpa February 13th, 2010 06:42 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Yes, i am not home at the moment and the area where i am now i am having big problems getting net access. I just sent turn 12, but i fear i will need 48 hours for the next turn (13).
Sorry guys, but work is work :o

Astyreal February 13th, 2010 11:50 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

We can do 48hrs.

he needs it for the next turn only, not permanently... we still have some turns to play before it will be justified to turn switch hosting to 48 hrs turns instead of 24.

Stagger Lee February 13th, 2010 02:12 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Actually, a longer interval would help this weekend. My son won't care, but my wife and my 3yr old daughter would appreciate it.

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Niefelheim is once again about to stall. Me sad panda. 48 hours to do a second year turn is beyond my comprehension anyway. But I'm a veteran solo player.

Astyreal February 15th, 2010 06:39 PM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Such is life. If he stalls again shall we get a sub?

Humakty February 16th, 2010 02:38 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Philosophy before 8 : 00 AM is NOT tolerated. :)

Well, it would be nice to find a sub if he stalls, or turns will really get long with a 48 hrs timer.

John_Madlock February 16th, 2010 08:50 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Astyreal, you have disabled PM.
If we want a sub, then we should not attack Niefelheim, and maybe we should stop the game. Otherwise nobody will want to play in the half disassembled state.

Humakty February 16th, 2010 09:35 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

I fully agree with J_M, we should stop untill we find a sub.

seems like Helheim will also stale, and not for the first time either I think. anybody heard from him?

Patolixo February 17th, 2010 05:07 AM

Re: EA: Vanilla, Newbie game [RUNNING -- CHECK LLAMASERVER!]

Nope, I have never stalled and I´m not about to stall anytime soon.
