The admin has removed it. mockingbird, you should be able to send in your pretender now.

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), uploading pretenders

I have received my turn and loaded it with no problem. However, when I try and play it I get a german sounding name (nagot nik Fel...sorry too lazy to go back and write down the correct error), and says a need the map Shawriver_som.tga.

Now I have D/L the map on the fist page here and EVERY Shawriver map I could find. If someone would be kind enough to post the right map I will have my turn in quickly.

Thanks:confused:

"NĂ¥got gick fel" is swedish and means "something went wrong", and it's the general error alert of dom3.

Regarding the map. There is nothing wrong with your .tga file except that it has the wrong name. You need to rename it exactly: Shahrivar_Som.tga

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), uploading pretenders

OK, remembering that I am not the most astute person when it comes to computers, I THINK I know what a TGA file is (or at least have seen it when D/L maps), but I have never (in my short career on here) had to CHANGE anything.

So I ask this, Do I go in and change the TGA on the map I got from the link on the first page (remember, I have D/L like 4 maps called Shawriver so this is important to tell me exactly which map to change)?

If so, is this the 'balanced map with preset starting positions?

Sorry if I seem a little afraid to touch anything, but it has been my expieriance that I tend to change things for the worse.

Ok I am on my way home and will try that and will respond from my Comp.

Thanks for trying to help me and be patiant as I will try anything you ask.

In your \dominions3\maps\ folder should be a file called Shahrivar Som.tga (and also one or more files called Shahrivar Som.map or something like that, but you don't need to touch them.) Make a copy of that file, and change the name of the copy to Shahrivar_Som.tga

Ragnars Wolves September 7th, 2010 06:33 PM

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), uploading pretenders

OK, I am home and went in and changed the tga file (ONLY) on the map file called Sharivar Som.tga TO Shariver_Som.tga and it did not work.

Now, remember I have 4 different Shahrivar maps (2 from sombre and another one called balanced along with the one I just changed).

It did not work, but I also did not change any other file except the tga file.

Any suggestions?

(Sorry guys about the GrudgeBringer thing agian, I was making sure my folks didn't have toooo much food in the fridge and just jumped on his comp. Will try and watch it in the future:doh:

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), uploading pretenders

Last time I had this error I hadn't updated Dominions to the right version (3.24). You've got the CBM mod installed and active, right? Beyond that I don't know.

Ragnars Wolves September 7th, 2010 06:47 PM

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), uploading pretenders

CBM 1.6 is installed and activated.

However, where do I look to see if I have 3.24 installed?

Hello!

I had the same problem that Ragnar, and the solution was renaming the map. Try that.

Ragnars Wolves September 7th, 2010 06:51 PM

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), uploading pretenders

Rename the Map to what? I did rename the tga part so what other part do I need to rename and what name should I use?

With your guys help I am getting somewhere!!

Hi,

i downloaded the maps:
HTML Code:

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com//atta...6&d=1214247273
,
and renamed the file "Shahrivar Som.tga" to "Shahrivar_Som.tga"
and "Shahrivar Som.map" to "Shahrivar_Som.map".

You tried that?

It did not work, but I also did not change any other file except the tga file.

ALL those Shahrivar tga:s are EXACTLY the same file. All you need to do is change the file name of any one of them to EXACTLY: Shahrivar_Som.tga

My guess is you simply spelled it wrong, just like you did in the post above.

Any .map files are completely irrelevant, you don't even need to have one when playing MP, just the tga.

Ragnars Wolves September 7th, 2010 08:45 PM

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), uploading pretenders

I also saw I misspelled Shahrivar in one of my posts so that isn't an issue (but thanks for pointing that out, it sure could have been).

Here is what I have done and the results.

1. I used the map on the front page as the prototype. I cut and pasted it into the map section, extrated and then took all the files out and left them free standing in the map file (as I do all the others).

2. I changed that one file and added the underscore EXACTLY as indicated but no luck. In fact just to check something after I changed it I went back in and tried to start a new game using all of the the Sharivar maps and it would not come up with the message "can't find Shahrivar Som.tga". So changing it messed up the rest of the maps.

SO, it seems somewhere along the line I have a choice as my computer is NOT accepting the change (and I had my wife looking over my shoulder to make sure I didn't make an error). I can either keep screwing around doing the same thing and expecting different results (which according to Einstein would mean I am insane).

OR, I can delete ALL my Shahrivar maps that I have played SP on and start over with one map (which I don't know that I trust the map on the first page to be that map).

OR, I can withdraw as I honestly don't want to delete all the maps I have. It seems that everyone else is ok except me and I am doing (I promise you) EXACTLY what Fantoman said to do. Problem is, I KNOW he knows what to do and somewhere along the line I am just screwing it up but for the life of me (and my wife who read his directions also) I can't get it to work.

I need to get away from this for 1/2 hour before I throw it out a window.

I will check back for a concensus in a few minutes.

Sorry guys for the holdup:mad:

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), uploading pretenders

All you have to do is change the name of the tga file you downloaded to Shahrivar_Som.tga . I had the same problem you did but that fixed it immediately, and it solves the problem with all possible versions of the Shahrivar map. All these complicated steps you're taking seem unnecessary.

Here's my working copy of the map, it's all I can think of at this point. If that doesn't fix it, then the map might not be your problem.

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), uploading pretenders

I have upcoming international travel 9/12 - 9/17 (US time). I should have excellent internet access during my trip, but just getting there and back will take ~24 hours each way, so I would like to request a temporary move to a 36 hour turn cycle.

Thank you for your understanding.

Groundworm September 11th, 2010 01:51 PM

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), uploading pretenders

All right, I'll put us on 36 hour turns for now. Let us know when you're back, and I'll readjust.

Ragnars Wolves September 11th, 2010 03:59 PM

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), running

Speaking of extensions, I will be going on a field trip to a 'Dig' in South America for part of my Grad school work in Anthropology starting Weds Sept 15th and will return Monday Sept 20th.

Obviously, because of the location in the jungle, I will not be able to get internet time and would ask for an extension for that period. I understand we are moving right along, but this was an unexpected opportunity (to be asked to go) and I need to take advantage of it.

If you don't or can't wait, I will try and find a sub. However, I am like Groundworm....TERRIBLE starting position, hit with a unrest even on turn 1 and just hit agian (unrest is now 68) with another. I will not quit on this game but have no delusions of of being a contender, and will try to use this game to learn something (and maybe poking a stick in simeones eye before I die).

So stales actually maight work in my favor.

I will be able to do a turn late Tuesday or VERY early Weds and another on the following Monday evening.

Let me know.

I say pause it or find a sub. Staling is always bad.

Groundworm September 11th, 2010 04:40 PM

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), running

Ragnar- wrong game. This isn't the game where my starting province was struck by massive unrest.

I'll postpone the game when you need. Let me know when you're leaving, and I'll delay things for that period.

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), running

Greetings Gentlemen, how goes the war!! I just thought I would drop by as I saw Ragnar using my comp agian and had to remind him to use his own (as he took about 10 pounds of food out of my fridge and headed home...sigh).

Thanks Fantoman for helping these guys out, I wish I would have had that in my first game. I lasted all of 19 turns as Marverni...I was like a sheep in a wolves game. We have a $20 dollar bet that he won't make turn 20. Don't let me down guys, I'll NEVER hear the end of it!!!

Have a great game...

Groundworm is going to help me get a sub for the next week while I am gone (Thank You!!).

However we have a Nation that has staled 3 out of the six turns and you might want to put it on hold to find a permanent sub fot him as the guys around him will hew him up. Chelms id the Nation and I don't know if he has some problems or just doesn't understand how important making every turn is.

Groundworm September 13th, 2010 08:46 AM

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), running

Sigh. I hadn't realized that camobeercan had been staling. That's very annoying. Any suggestions?

I've made a separate thread looking for a permanent sub for him, and a temporary sub for Ragnar. Thanks for the heads-up, Ragnar. I wonder why I wasn't getting messages about the stale turns? Has anyone else noticed this?

Should I delay the game until we get this sorted out?

Sephorin has been kind enough to sub for Ragnar while he's out at the end of this week. Thank you, Sephorin, and welcome!

This solves one problem, but still not quite sure what to do about Man.

Hello, all. I'm happy to fill in for a couple of days. Although, as I told Groundworm, I make no guarantees as to the quality of my turns. :)

And I may have found a permanent sub for Man, though he has no multiplayer experience at all. What do you all think? Should I go ahead and have him fill in?

Since I've heard no opposition and the player of Man has not responded to my PM, I've offered the position to adder83. I've delayed the current turn by 24 hours in order to get him into the game, but I think it's for the best.

I will be away from my computer from Friday to Sunday evening. I think I will be able to play a turn on Friday before evening (in Europe), and then the next possible time will be late on Sunday.
Is it possible to skip the turn on Saturday? Otherwise I would be looking for a temporary sub (LA Caelum). Otherwise I would stale.

Fantomen September 20th, 2010 11:39 AM

Re: Waspworld (NEWBIE GAME), running

That's not a very big delay, should be no problem as far as I'm concerned.

Yes, Marmaduke, we can delay one turn. Not a problem. Just send me a PM on Friday to remind me to institute the delay, if you don't mind.
